REAL unemployment rate = 14.7%. I don't say so -

Posted: Sep 11, 2012

You can run, Barry, but you can't hide from this:

"The August unemployment rate was reported Friday as 8.1 percent — though the real unemployment number that isn't regularly reported is almost two times higher than that, 14.7 percent."

Not sure why Bush's numbers matter.... He hasn't been president for four years... But here they are.

included those who had stopped looking for work or were underemployed. I personally have no interest in what Bush's numbers were.

Why thank you. Employment being a "lagging" econmonic indicator - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You can definitely see the effects of the Bush administration on the dismal employment data. (If you do not know what "lagging economic indicator is" I suggest you do some research). It is really wonderful to see the trend reversing under President Obama. He has dropped it almost 2 points. It would be a 3 point decrease if he would have had any cooperation from the obstructionist Republicans in Congress.

Bringing up Bush - UH

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't get why the continuous bringing up of Bush's failures during his second term either. I mean, would we reelect him for a third term with that record? I don't think so. The economy is bad, people. We need new leadership. Obama's proven leadership" has proven failure. If you have another 4 years to tread water and you are not drowning, it is your privilege as an American to choose to vote for Obama again. Myself and most of the people I know are going down for the third time, so I am not voting for Obama/Biden in this election.

The actual unemployment - JW

is closer to 24-25%. I heard the other day that there are 89 million unemployed Americans and that is probably not all of them. So get a clue. Obama or Romeny either one gives a rat's you know what about anyone who is unemployed and why should they, their parties, i.e. Dems and Repubs, are the ones who got rid of the the jobs in this country to begin with. I for one will not support either of these parties because I am one of those unemployed Americans whose job was sent overseas.

Why Did The Unemployment Rate Drop?Dec 02, 2011
I think the most encouraging part of this report is in the last paragraph. The U.S. added 120,000 jobs in November, but the unemployment rate posted a huge drop to 8.6% from 9% and a broader unemployment rate fell even more to 15.6% from 16.2%. Why? The number of jobs added comes from a survey of establishment payrolls. The unemployment rate comes from a separate survey of U.S. households. The household survey is much smaller than the establishment survey, and as a result it can swing around a ...

Here is the historical data from the US Dept. of Labor Bureau of Statistics.    Funny how the last big (and highest) spike was under the Reaganomics regime. A Possible Unemployment Solution?Nov 04, 2010
A financial pundit, James Galbraith, suggested:  We have a large cohort of people who have been displaced by a major economic crisis,” he says. “It's utterly ridiculous to make them subsist on unemployment insurance, when in fact, there aren’t going to be jobs.  This is not a temporary condition for a great many people.” Galbraith claims lowering the retirement age would solve that problem. It's a win-win, he says, allowing those nearing retirement a ...
