This gov't out of control

Posted: Aug 2, 2011

What do you think of 18 BILLION dollars of your tax dollars going to other countries, Egypt and Cyprus for example, to refurbish mosques, churches and temples?

I am NOT an Obama fan, but he is not to blame.  This was passed by Clinton and continued by Bush, and now Obama that USAid (Gov't agency) has 18 BILLION dollars to send to other countries to do this.

Now you please tell me, what sense does it make for us to be BORROWING money from China, et. al., to send to other countries for such nonsense when we are trillions in debt.  It absolutely blows my mind.

I worked for the Federal Gov't for 16 years and the abuses are unbelieveable.  I learned medical transcription in a VA Claims Office.  It was a large typing pool.  I was so disliked because I made 200% quota every month (yes I am fast and conscientious, BUT their standards were so low is why I made 200%).  Most of the MTs struggled to make their 100% quota for the month.  So get this, they paid me bonuses all the time just for doing my job.  Did I take it, of course, but that is just how stupid this Gov't is, already paying me well and unbelieveable benefits (4-5 weeks paid vacation, 12 days a year sick leave, which is so abused), and paid me bonus money just for doing my job.

I could write a book about the abuses I saw in the 16 years working for them.  I was even a whistle blower it was so bad.

I think both parties are out of control with Earmarks.  Look at Murtha's airport in Pennsylvania, millions of tax dollars for three flights a day.  I live in Myrtle Beach and we can't even get a major highway or Federal money for an airport until we show them we can pay big bulk of it.  It turns my stomach how they operate.

I am proud of my representatives, Jim DeMint and Rep. Scott (a black conservative -- awesome), and sometimes Lindsey Graham.  They all voted against this latest bill because it is a joke.  Does not begin to touch the problem and all Obama cares about is getting reelected (not have the debt ceiling come up again before election).

I am ready for a third party.  I am not a tea party member, but I have done my homework enough to know these are just common people with common sense who know things are out of control and thank God they got this conversation going or we would be broke.

Canada and Israel both went through this in the 1990's and our gov't can learn a LOT from these countries on the tough cuts they made and are now prosperous once again, their dollar stronger than our's.  It's all about the value of our dollar (and our homes) and this trillion dollar debt is killing both, the corrupt Democratic Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac RUINED our housing market.  Do your homework folks.

How can Democrats dare to blame the Rep. for anything this past six years that they controlled both the House and Senate.  They have done enough harm with their Obamacare abdomination.  Passed to ensure 14 million people, yet half of all small companies dropping insurance due to costs (just what they knew would happen to push Socialized Medicine).

Do your homework folks......

;

I might suggest you do the same (homework) - sm

How dare the Pubs rip the Dems? Bush enjoyed 6 years of a wild Republican-controlled Congress spending party on wars, unpaid drug programs, etc, that we now have to pay for. The Democratic House and Senate did not a have veto-proof majority the last 2 years of Bush's term, and a non-filibuster proof majority the first two years of Obama's term (6 years, huh?).

No one held the government economy hostage in order to pass the Affordable Health Care Act.

Both Israel and Canada HAVE UNIVERSAL/PUBLIC HEALTH CARE. Yes, let us take some lessons.

Oh my. Did the VA have reasonable line counts with benefits? And you would prefer that all people would be working under the sweatshop conditions we have today? Well, I am glad you just quit that awful government job so you could work for MQ or as an independent contractor.

By the way, the government employees I know do not have anywhere near the benefits you are quoting. Makes me wonder about your facts. ????

I guess you missed the part that I am disgusted with BOTH parties.

I seriously doubt you or most Americans would want to pay the tax rate (50%) to cover those social health benefits. My relatives on my mom's side are Canadian and I know what they pay in taxes and we just don't know how good we have it. My relatives came to the states and paid out of pocket for some surgeries because of the very long wait in their country. I was on a cruise recently and met a Canadian couple. She was complaining of bad back pain. I asked how long she would wait for an MRI in her country (she lived in Montreal) and she told me six months. I could be in for an MRI the same day (and have been for back issues). So you may prefer Social Medicine BUT NOT ME.

My best friend's daughter works for CNN in London. She said there is NO comparison to those there on VISAs working compared to the health care Brits get, even different doctors and way nicer offices, no waiting time to be seen.

All one need do is work 3 years for the Federal Gov't to start accrusing two days a month vacation time. One day a month for sick leave, which is grossly abused. (That's three paid days off a month. You show me any private employer who offers that.) So maybe your friends with Gov't have less than 3 years, but their pensions and health benefits are way out of line with private industry as is the pay.

I could not stand to continue working with the incompetence I saw in government. My best friend told me her son finally got a job with the Navy. He went to law school but does not want to be a lawyer. He is very bored though because he is done with his work by 10 a.m. But she said he has to stay in the job six months (before a transfer to different position) for them to pay his school loans. He chose to go to expensive $25,000 a year private college and then 3 years of law school and you and I are going to pay his college loans. JUST GAGS ME.

I worked for a Chief Asst. US Attorney. I witnessed firsthand the Chief USA forgive student loans with a mere letter of hardship, no hearing or proof of anything. (I typed the letters.)

I saw all I care to see in the 16 years there. My own sister will tell you they kept her in her $80,000 a year job for two years after her position was abolished, JUST to bridge her to her cushey $45,000 retirement. She told me this in front of her friend visiting who said "Well they did the same thing for me." My sister was off of work more than she was there (with health issues) ALL paid for by her own leave AND donated leave by other gov't employees. It is all unbelieveable. I am speaking from firsthand experience, NOT hearsay as you are. I worked for bosses who came to work at 10 and left at 3 (I guess they felt they deserved it after serving overseas for two years and that is what I told the visiting Director of Operations in our one-on-one meeting). I told him I felt they used these 2-year stateside jobs as a 2-year R&R. Fortunately he cared and that boss served in DC next instead of a nice overseas job and I got a promotion.

That is NOT to paint ALL Federal employees with the same brush, but I can tell you, much of what I saw would have NOT been tolerated in private industry. NO ONE gets fired by the Government. They just move around from job to job.

I was completely against invading Iraq and detest being in Afghanistan (so we probably have more in common than you think). My whole family (two adult children and husband) all said on the night they invaded Iraq "Why are we doing this?" None of us felt threatened by WMD's, but I remind you that the Dem's support the intelligence and voted to invade Iraq also.

What a total waste of life and money. I do NOT feel threatened by the Taliban in Afghanistan. What happens when we leave there? They'll come out of the mountains and regrow their poppy for heroin and support their corrupt governments and go on their merry way. I would NOT support my son or daughter serving in that hell hole. FOR WHAT?

I am just very sad that I do not believe people in Washington represent the "people" anymore, but only work for special interests and lobbying groups. We have become a very corrupt Gov't (don't get me wrong, I think big Business and Wall Street are just as corrupt)and was totally against the TARP bail outs.

The world would NOT have ended had we not bailed out Wallstreet and big business, just as would NOT have ended if we did not raise the debt limit. We have revenue coming in to pay our interest payments and Essential Gov't business. I wish it DID shut down all but essential government as Clinton did.

All WAY too partisan to my liking. I saw Newt Gingrich say on TV last night, "Bill Clinton was NO where near the ideologue Obama is when I was speaker, and was also usually the smartest man in the room for a meeting." Tip O'Neill and Kennedy were said to get along great. Obama calls anyone not agreeing with him his "enemy."

Other than Clinton's inability to keep it in his pants, I really liked him as a President and would have MUCH preferred Hillary over Obama and shocked she agreed to work for him. You sure don't hear much of her lately do you. She could probably defeat him in a primary for 2012. I always felt I would prefer her (with Bill's knowledge and expertise as First MAN) than Obama. Can you tell yet I'm an Independent and not a sheep?

We just cannot keep up spending trillons of dollars and NOT go the way of Greece. No one can even wrap their brain around the zeros in "trillions." Probably why it is so unmanageable and out of control, billions mean nothing anymore now that we talk trillions.

Not sure what part of BROKE States and Federal are that these unions don't get. Now that's another subject all together, but a BIG part of this budget problem State/Federal wide.

My husband managed frequent flyer program for a large airline. His call center fought and fought for a union. They finally got one. Guess what, one year later the entire department was outsourced to Equador (careful what you wish for). How's that union working out for ya (with no job).

Have you flown lately? I fly often and I shake my head how many blue-shirt TSA people are standing around talking to one another. I say we privatize Airport Security. Private industry can ALWAYS do it better and more efficiently than Gov't.

Don't know how anyone can defend our Federal Government and their poor stewardship of our tax dollars. Will gladly give them more when they show they can manage what they already take. (Don't expect to see that happen in my lifetime.) Let Matt Damon send in his extra 6% voluntarily. Anyone can do that. Put your money where your mouth is. You need a law to make you help your Gov't out. If he thinks this Gov't is so wonderful, send your extra money. They will gladly accept it (to help refurbish mosques in the Middle East).

I just in my 59 years have never seen such divisiveness in the Government and it makes me very sad for my children and grandchildren.

Your quote: "All one need do is work 3 years for the Federal Gov't to start accrusing two days a month vacation time."

If you do a search of gov. jobs, you will find that 1.5 vacation days will be accrued per month for service years 3 through 15. Actually, that is not far from what private sector norm used to be before corporations went on the union-busting, outsourcing, off-shoring binge. However, I saw many private sector employees walk in the door and ask for a month off right off the bat, and receive it. What government were you working for again?

Not to mention the famous my cousin's brother's sister's aunt's hairdresser's vet's chef's who they met while on a walking tour of the pyramids said that her husband's daughter's dog's groomer's electrician's manicurist said that the Canadian healthcare is horrible.

And her mom agreed.

Any polling of "real" Canadians shows that they would not trade their system for ours, waits are not unreasonable and considered a reasonable tradeoff.

Of course, people with money don't want to wait two weeks for elective surgery. Surprise- rich people here don't want to wait for anything either.

I suspect a lot of people watch a little too much Faux news so they create their own little faux stories, giving them, in my eyes, about as much credibility.

Saturday there will be a march in Washington, DC... a march for common-sense gun legislation: to reinstate the assault-weapons ban, to forbid high-capacity magazines, to enforce a 28-day waiting period for gun purchases, to require background checks and gun-safety training, to outlaw bullets that shatter in the body.  No one needs 100 rounds of ammunition to kill a deer. My oldest daughter, 19 years, is on my last nerve.  She is totally out of control and I am about to throw her out.  Her plans for college are out the window.  She started working at a resturant, is making a little money and has decided that "college would be too expensive".  She had a scholarship of $5000 per semester, but isn't going to use it!  She actually called the college that accepted her and told them she wasn't coming! I Feel The NRA Is Out Of Control.Jan 09, 2013
They're threatening to sue the Tucson Police Department because the police department wants to destroy guns turned in via their buyback program. The NRA is upset, saying it's illegal to destroy the guns and they have to be sold to a licensed firearms dealer. Those guns were willingly handed over by citizens and are now the PD's property. The PD are the people who actually put themselves on the line and deal with situations arising from firearms, and if they want to destroy them, ...

Newt Gingrich was asked about gun control. It was interesting to note that Obama’s home town is the murder capital of the US.
