Pubs and the NRA recently introduced a bill that would allow folks to carry guns to the workplace. Fortunately, I believe this was just voted down (probably because of Colorado). What would this bill have done?
HB3560: Prohibits a business or property owner, or public or private employer, from banning handgun-carry permit holders from keeping guns in their vehicles. The only exceptions are the grounds of a single-family detached residence, a commercial nuclear power plant or science and energy national laboratories.
HB3559: Prohibits any public or private employer from requiring a job applicant or employee to disclose whether he or she possesses, uses or transports guns unless the job requires a gun.
So, if you are a school teacher or a janitor at a school, you would be allowed to bring a gun (or two) to the school and leave it in your car.
Welcome to the new wild, wild west.
I would love to hear what the candidates have to say about this.

How many criminals do you think are following the gun control laws! Only law-abiding citizens follow the law, not the kooks who cannot separate reality from fantasy. I am a gun-toting medical transcriptionist.

a gun-toting law abiding citizen. He aquired his guns and ammo legally. So where do we make the distinction? Should we just accept that some folks are gonna go nuts and kill people and leave it at that?
I happen to believe that guns don't kill people, but rather people kill people. Having said that though, if Holmes had not had access to his guns and ammo, who many people would have died if he went in there with just a knife?
Or how many if he had just brought some of - His bombs that
[ In Reply To ..]
He made and just blew up the entire theater. He is a very intelligent but very sick man. I think he would have found a way, and from what he came up with, I'm pretty sure a knife would have been on the bottom of his list. He has a level of intelligence where he probably could have made his own gun.
Good point - JTBB

I don't however think you need to be a genius to do what he did. You can find "how tos" all over the internet on just about any subject you want. So, with all the info you need at your fingertips and lack of gun control, again how do we prevent these incidences?
One thing that seems really out of whack to me is that to get into most (if not all) police forces in the country it is mandatory to pass a psych eval. So, we put more restrictions on the folks who are supposed to protect us from these crazy folks than the crazy folks themselves. Go figure.
You cannot penalize good law abiding citizens who follow the law - what if - sm

because of one kook who went did this. Not everyone who carries guns is like him. Don't own a gun, but I was in the military and I am a responsible and sane person. If I want to own a gun because I want it for self protection or to hunt or just because it's my right to own one no psycho should be able to control that.
P.S.
1. Notice how the news stations are not talking about how this happened in an areas where they do not allow weapons so nobody can protect themselves.
2. Notice how the news stations are not talking about this man's background. PhD in neuroscience. This is not some guy who just went nuts. This was a normal quiet pleasant man. Someone like this doesn't just "snap".
3. Notice how the news stations are not talking about his father who is working on a mind control program.
4. Notice how the news stations are not talking about how this just so happened to take place right before they are meeting to get gun control and take away peoples rights to own guns. Quite convenient I would say.
Watching his reaction sitting in court looks like he is putting on an act. He isn't showing the mannerisms of someone who just did this. He doesn't look distraught or that he is out of his mind. Just put two and two together. Something is not right about this.
All I know is this. No person like him should be the deciding factor for people who are law abiding citizens, sane and know gun laws and are perfectly sane to decide that everyday people like me should own a gun.
Maybe they should start taking guns away from gang members and criminals first.
This was a tragedy indeed, but it should not be used as a political tool to take away the rights of normal every day citizens.
Besides, look what happens when you take away guns and the ability for people to protect themselves. Crime increases.
No, I'm sorry, I will not have someone like that be the deciding factor for me not having a gun if I want one.
I am a former SSG in the United States Army. I am responsible and I will be the one to decide whether or not I want to own a gun.

does when they want to cripple the citizens is confiscate their guns. You got a whole lot of smoke being blown by liberals because they will use ANY tragic to push their agenda. Where was the outrage when OWS was commting gun crimes. As usual, the liberals/Dems very selective in their bogus outrage...we need guns to protect us from the extreme left-wing nuts.

punished because of one person's actions. I realize a lot of folks want a gun for protection and, of course, people do actually hunt. However, do you really need a semi to take out a deer? And yes, I know the bad guys have semi's and are usually even better equiped than our police, but something has to give. I don't think gun control is the complete answer, and honestly, I don't know what is. However, I do know that countries with gun control laws typically have lower crime rates than we do.
As far as people who carry guns being able to stop an incident like this...well, you might have military training and the ability to make spot decisions without stressing out, but I would say that about 90% of those law abiding gun carrying folks don't.
As far as the suspect in court today, yeah, I agree that he didn't look right. I also find it hard to believe that model citizens just snap like that. There was a doc on the news earlier today that brought up the idea that maybe they had given him a sedative of some sort to calm him down and that might be why he was zoned out. This is the first I've heard about the mind control dad though. That should be interesting :).
it's not clear that having guns decreases crime... - ctmt

I agree with you that this should not be used as as political tool, but this was not a "normal quiet pleasant man". Normal, pleasant people don't shoot other people. At all.
Horrible violence in the US - Why!?
[ In Reply To ..]
I beg to differ that this man was in any way normal.
The US has a huge problem with gun violence. The rate of gun injuries and deaths is way too high compared with the rest of the developed world.
I don't know what the solution is, but whatever we are doing now? It is NOT WORKING.
I cannot understand why a country that is doing so well (despite a recession, wars, etc...in comparison to how it could be, we have it SO FREAKING EASY!!!) would have a gun violence rate that is so high.

I don't see this terrible episode being used as a political tool, except here:
"...the news stations are not talking about how this just so happened to take place right before they are meeting to get gun control and take away peoples rights to own guns. Quite convenient I would say."
You are suggesting there is government subterfuge, media collusion, and mind control at play here. It just sounds a little scary.

in the US (yourself included) is going to to what Holmes did? Sorry, but I don't follow that logic. I'm not like Holmes, I'm sure you are not like Holmes, but your statement to me says that you think everyone in the US who is sane and follows the laws and is responsible will one day do what he did.
Will you freely surrender your rights because of 1 in 100,000 people do something like this? I won't. I will not have someone like that be the deciding factor of whether or not I can own a gun.
You take away people's guns and now you have taken away their ability to protect themselves. When a burgler is breaking into you home do you think harsh language will make him stop. BTW, pretty much sure the criminals are not going to give up their guns.
Take away peoples rights first with the guns and then what's next.
Also, that his how Hitler came to power. Took away citizens guns so they could not fight back. Sorry, I'm not okay with that.

EU And US Free Trade TalksFeb 13, 2013It will be interesting to see how this affects the US economy--here's a little of what we are looking at:
One aim of the free-trade agreement would be to eliminate or reduce tariffs - taxes that apply to imported goods.
For both the EU and US average tariffs are already low, below 3% on one measure. But further reductions could nonetheless stimulate additional trade and there are some areas where tariffs are much higher, notably food.
Beyond that, the negotiations would try to re ...
