Tax cuts and Unemployment votes

Posted: Dec 13, 2010

At 3:40 p.m., the vote was 54-6 in favor. They need 6 votes to pass. We shall see.

Voting against it so far is Birgaman (D), Feingold (D), Leahy (D), Udal (D)l, Sanders(I) , and Gillibrand (D).

Are you saying all Republicans are voting against it? - nm

No, so far it's been all dems voting against it. - Backwards Typist

I showed who voted against it so far. I also showed that the vote was in favor. It is now 69-10 in favor of moving forward.

The vote is going to stay open because of the weather problems across the country so the Senators can get back to the capitol. The Senate does look quite empty.

Ensign (R), Hagan (D), and Levin (D) voted no.

I think they should all vote against it. - Conservative mt

Let the tax cuts expire, stop extending unemployment. Also....this bill has been filled with pork and unneccesary spending it is ridiculous. Obviously neither party learned anything when we voted a bunch of them out and put new people in. Makes me sick.

Unemployment Apr 13, 2010
Here is the historical data from the US Dept. of Labor Bureau of Statistics.    Funny how the last big (and highest) spike was under the Reaganomics regime. As you can see, it isn't as high yet as it was then.  I predict it will peak roughly where it did then and will start to go back down as it did then.  If it keeps rising and does not show signs of a drop, then I'll panic.  After all, most conservatives think Ronnie was wonderful don't they? &nbs ...

Is it possible that somebody receives SS benefits and at the same time also unemployment payments?  My neighbor tells me that he receives both. I think it is possible, but this man is 80 years old and lost his job 16 months ago and is since then collecting unemployment and social security benefits. My question is:  Is there an age limit for receiving unemployment benefits?  I doubt that this man, aged 80, is looking for a job!  He told me that he is so happy looking for ...

Talk Box: Tax Cut Extension Would Lead to More Borrowing From China 12/7/10 at 01:50 AM // MSNBC's Chuck Todd reported that the framework deal President Obama seems to have reached with Republicans on extending the Bush tax cuts will result in a loss of revenue totaling nearly $450 billion in 2011, more than the cost of the 2009 stimulus while Countdown guest host Sam Seder investigated the huge amounts the U.S. will have to borrow from countries like China, Russia and th ...

TP Gets Its Wish--Thanks To Bush's Tax Cuts.Aug 05, 2011
Quote from S&P on downgrade: Compared with previous projections, our revised base case scenario now assumes that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, due to expire by the end of 2012,remain in place. We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act. ...

A Possible Unemployment Solution?Nov 04, 2010
A financial pundit, James Galbraith, suggested:  We have a large cohort of people who have been displaced by a major economic crisis,” he says. “It's utterly ridiculous to make them subsist on unemployment insurance, when in fact, there aren’t going to be jobs.  This is not a temporary condition for a great many people.” Galbraith claims lowering the retirement age would solve that problem. It's a win-win, he says, allowing those nearing retirement a ...

Tax Cuts Against Human Nature?Dec 06, 2010
Extending the Bush tax cuts: Human nature? Of all the coverage of the debate over whether or not to extend the Bush tax cuts, and there is plenty today, given that the White House appears to be quietly giving ground to Republicans on extending the tax cuts temporarily, today's money quote comes via Howard Kurtz over at The Daily Beast. What The Majority Of The People Want Re Tax CutsDec 03, 2010

Tax hikes for the rich: Can the economy afford them?  By Jeanne Sahadi, senior writerJuly 26, 2010: 3:15 AM ET   NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Would making the rich pay higher taxes next year hurt the economy? That question underlines one of the trickiest fiscal questions facing Washington policymakers: What to do about the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts, which are set to expire at the end of the year.
