If you think Bush tax cuts should be permanent,

Posted: Aug 21, 2012

If you don't think they should be encoded for all future American generations, ad infinitum, then don't vote for Romney.

;

A vote for Romney and his blond, "perfect" wife is - like a vote for Ken and Barbie.

Yeah, actually I am...sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm envious that he can actually pay a lower tax rate than me.

It's kind of funny to me that pubs talk about dems wanting to spread the wealth around. What's worse? Spreading the wealth around or just giving it to the ones on top so the rest can starve? Let them eat cake!
Whatever tax rate he pays, - kr
[ In Reply To ..]
he's within the law. Those laws can be changed, but until they are, he shouldn't be criticized for being successful and taking advantage of existing tax laws.
What I can criticize...sm - JTBB
[ In Reply To ..]
is the fact that he would like to manipulate that "law" so that he pays even less. I didn't say he has done anything illegal. I am saying, though, that the system is not fair, and it will be even more unfair if he becomes president.
Coveting and criticizing - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, that's your opinion, and that's fine. I take issue with the poster criticizing his wife's looks, as if that has anything to do with anything.
Translation: Concentrate on the superficial to blur - focus on the political.
[ In Reply To ..]
How far and wide do Romney's supporters think they can run from their own policies? For how long? Do they seriously think they can send national dialog down blind alleys until after the election and still win it? Poppycock.
but there has to be something else - bootstraps
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think he did anything illegal. And taking advantage of tax loopholes is not against the law.

So.. what is he hiding from? Maybe something his conservative base might not like? A contribution to a poor person maybe? Or to something else they disapprove of? He can't be afraid of the press or Democrats. He chose to run for President, so that can't be it. It's gotta be something else.

Imagination runs wild when no facts are presented.
agree. agree. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
How do we know he is within the law? - I think it is unpatriotic
[ In Reply To ..]
For him to outsource jobs to other countries and to keep his money bin in Switzerland and the Cayman's so he can avoid paying his fair share of taxes.

Now that sounds like jealousy to me. His "perfect" wife? - LM

So...... - SK

[ In Reply To ..]
If she was brunette and "ugly," would that make her more palatable.... Or are you basing your characterization on something more substantive than appearance? If so, you really pigeonholed yourself as shallow and petty with such a demeaning, childish statement.

I disagree. Ken and Barbie have certain characteristic - perceptive images

[ In Reply To ..]
GOP supporters never have been fans of metaphor, as is plain to see by this dialog. The Mr and Mrs Perfect personas, plastic doll and superficiality traits are the messages delivered by using this metaphor.

Because those perceptions do not convey qualities most "imperfect" voters can relate to in a candidate, their supporters MUST eschew the image. That's why they end up doing their predictable GOP thing. If the shoe fits but is so tight it causes bunions and blisters, take it off and throw it at the other party or, better still, hit them over the head with it and beat them in so submission while trying to force them to wear it.

Does not compute.
To which I say.... - SK
[ In Reply To ..]
Should a candidate dumb him/herself down, make their appearance less "perfect," to appeal to the "imperfect" voter? The outcry of pandering would be deafening.

If a voter cannot look deeper than the perceptive image of a candidate, it speaks to the voter, not the candidate.
You're missing the point. - Round 2.
[ In Reply To ..]
The voters I see trying to make the OPs comments and use of metaphor about appearance line up on the right. The ones trying to elaborate on the metaphor and take the dialog beyond the physical perceptions and down the metaphoric policy path line up on the left. There are reasons for that, which my other post mentioned. Hint: It is that part of my comments you are avoiding.

Do the math. When the light bulb flickers from dim to bright, it's time to talk unpopular policies Team Romney would like to keep shrouded in secrecy until after they lose the election. I have no problem with this personally. It helps show us how much value those polices have and how drastically the GOP needs to change their leadership picks, platform planks and campaign strategies before 2016. As hard of a pill it may be to swallow, a shift back toward the center is in order.

The irony is, if the party could have recognized this earlier and simply let Romney BE Romney, instead of transforming him into Mr Nowhere, a pathetic pandering flip-flopper who HAS no political identity, he would have posed a much more formidable challenge to the incumbent.

OMG. This is a ridiculous statement. - The OP specifically states

[ In Reply To ..]
the (again, METAPHORIC) jealousy is all about preferential tax status for the ubers and all the ramifications that has for the rest of us, AND for our nation's economic conditions, which will stay in a perpetual state of life support until that problem is fixed.

More than a one issue election - SK

[ In Reply To ..]
There's much more at stake in this election than permanent tax cuts.... Voters should educate themselves on all the issues.

Maybe for some, but not for others. - There are lots of one-issue voters

[ In Reply To ..]
and those issues range from pro-choice/pro-life, foreign policy diplomacy/war, jobs/economy, health care, education, Medicare/Social Security, entitlements/private sector, free market/trade, the role and size of government....you name it. When a party talks about MAKING A POLICY PERMANENT, one that hinges on something as fundamentally unequal as tax cuts for the rich on the backs of funding for all of the above, it rises to that level for some one-issue voters.

I do not want to see the kind of economic fall-out, and the the litany of other unintended consequences this single destructive policy has caused, be inflicted on all future generations. The redistribution of wealth upward and the ensuing shrinking of the middle class has NOT been good for our country. It has changed who we are as a nation and has contribted heavily to stoking the fires of class warfare. It's GOT TO GO.

R&R decided the economy was not their "one issue" and made this election about clear choice. Bush tax cuts are one of those choices that could not be more clear. Permanent? Yes or no? Raising voter awareness on this intent is part of that educational process you are are calling for.

I agree.... - SK

[ In Reply To ..]
But there are entirely too many one-issue voters who are then surprised (and usually outraged) when other issues come into play that they did not bother to take the time to look at and which they would not have agreed had they taken the time to investigate the other issue.

Choosing a country's leader is a balancing act.... You agree with them on some issues, disagree on others, and vote your priorities, but people need to look at everything that's on the plate and then make an informed decision based on the whole rather than single interest.
I also agree, but that doesn't change the fact that - our electorate
[ In Reply To ..]
has a TON of one-issue voters. It's their choice to do so. If it's a bad choice, then the consequences are inevitable. Once they have paid them a time or two, sooner or later, their approach to voting will evolve, or not. Again, their choice. For me, it took decades for this process to advance.

This is campaign season, and the stakes are high on both sides. Using one issue to galvanize support for a party is only one arrow in the quiver. It's a strategy used in equal measure by both parties. Personally, I think the proposed permanence of W's tax cuts is one that is destined to hit more than a few bull's eyes. On the other side, I'm sure the birthers feel the same about their one-issue pick....and so it goes.

Dems Considering Keeping Bush Tax CutsJul 22, 2010
Democrats are considering a plan to delay tax hikes on the wealthy for two years because the economic recovery is slow and they fear getting crushed in November’s election.  It could mean a big reprieve for families earning $250,000 and above annually.  President George W. Bush’s tax cuts will expire at the end of the year unless Congress acts to delay their sunset.  Some Democrats are now arguing forcefully that a delay is a win-win plan that would help the federal ...
