Romney's "binders" claim

Posted: Oct 17, 2012

He actually failed to give credit to the WOMEN who assembled the list of qualified candidates, compiled in 2002 (BEFORE Romney was elected) by the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus as part of a Massachusetts Government Appointments Project study.  In other words, it was not assembled by his staff at his behest.

Oh, by the way, women made up 42%-54% of his administration in 2003 (there are two studies with different figures on this), but by Nov 2006, their presence was down to 27%.  Also, according to a University of Massachusetts study, none of the higher positions such as budget or business development.  They were placed in positions the gov had little to do with.

I guess token representation is better than no representation at all, but it does not exactly translate into fire-breathing feminism either.

and a vulture capitalist who made money by driving companies into debt.

Griswold v. Connecticut was wrong? Who could possibly argue that point with a straight face? Do he and his wife not have sex when they don't wish to conceive?

I'm truly baffled by this man and horrified at the possibility of him becoming our president.

What makes you think he'll treat our country any different than Sensata or Worldwide Grinding Systems?

What good will come from restricting access to things like effective birth control and cancer screening?

from apparently near destruction (along with a few other things, including establishing what Joseph Smith called a "theodemocracy" here, apparently a combo of a theocracy and what our founding fathers established).

Yes, this IS pertinent to binders and Griswold: Many believe the Roe v Wade ruling, as an institutionalization of murder, may well fulfill the prophesy of the damage to the Constitution. Note that Griswold, establishing a right to privacy under constitutional law, was used as precedent in the Roe v Wade decision. As a devout Mormon and an anti-abortionist, Romney undoubtedly believes a very big part of his job, should he become president in this critical era, would be to repair/rescue the Constitution by repealing that abomination, and any others, etc.

So you can rest easy about this at least, RC: He's not interested in peeking in your windows.

BTW, guys, I'm not making this stuff up. As you can imagine, the current Latter Day Saints leadership is keeping pretty quiet about all this due to go down any time now, but sufficient numbers, including leaders in official statements have discussed it in the past. Google and read for yourselves before you vote.

Having had my own faith/beliefs pummeled on this site, I am skeptical. Just because you believe something is eventually going to happen, does not mean you think you are personally responsible to bring it about. I've known and know a few Mormons and many, many Christians. Never knew a single one who was ready and anxious to bring on the antichrist and the end times or whatever you unbelievers want to call it. Myself and the others I know want to live a long happy prosperous life and die of an old, old, old age (preferably in our sleep) and leave a world full of opportunity and happiness for our children and grandchildren. Several denominations have been teaching and preaching end-times for decades. I don't know any who felt it was their duty to actually bring that about. In fact, the opposite. Hey, maybe that's good news if Romney thinks he is actually the one to save the US. I don't think Obama has any intention of doing that for any reason. I think his agenda is far darker than any you are imagining up.
NOT my imagining--finding. But Romney'd have to be a - fool not to consider he might have been chosen.
[ In Reply To ..]
Also, there's Jon Huntsman, like Romney a devout Mormon born in what they've been taught is the final era and put in the right place to serve Christ in a high position if chosen. So he ran for the presidency too, in case that was God's will.

Must be a strange feeling; but impossible as it is for me to imagine (no Satan or final days in my personal plans), they both must have felt it was their duty to step forward--why else were they and others like them put where they were--AND that what they might want would be completely irrelevant.

BTW, the capital of the earthly kingdom? That'll be in Missouri. I didn't look up the land purchased long ago for it, but it's apparently in or around Independence somewhere.

I didn't know about Griswold vs CT - thanks for posting - (wow) (just wow)

I cannot imagine anyone being against marital privacy. What kind of lives would we be allowed to have?

I don't know how Mormons handle their private lives with regard to sex, and I'm fine with that. I would hope Mr. Romney would grant me the same respect.

What does that have to do with Romney? - backwards typist

This was a CT law in place since 1879. Griswold and the doctor tested the law and were found guilty and fined.

I'm afraid I don't understand the point of your post and why you brought this case into a Romney post.

I won't go into the whole case of how each judge ruled but in the case brief, it states: Appellant Griswold, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut and Appellant Buxton, a licensed physician who served as Medical Director for the League at its Center in New Haven, were arrested and charged with giving information, instruction, and medical advice to married persons on means of preventing conception.

Discussion: The right to privacy in marriage is not specifically protected in either the Bill of Rights or the Constitution. Nonetheless, it is a right so firmly rooted in tradition that its protection is mandated by various Constitutional Amendments, including the 1st, 9th and 14th Amendments.

Is this why you brought this up? You really think a CT law made in 1879 has something to do with Romney? If so, then I've heard everything!

"Griswold v. Connecticut was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution protected a right to privacy. The case involved a Connecticut law that prohibited the use of contraceptives. By a vote of 7â2, the Supreme Court invalidated the law on the grounds that it violated the "right to marital privacy.""

Romney doesn't "believe they decided that correctly."

But what else would you expect from a man who would defund Planned Parenthood?
PLUS, Griswold's right to privacy is cited in - ROE V. WADE decision. nm

qualify to go to heaven (and most Christians apparently will, even if to a lower tier than them), God still intends earth to be a very nice home for decent non-Christian people. Only genuinely bad and awful people (don't have an actual definition for those two groups) get booted out...somewhere. Some mention of an outer ring for the truly evil.

According to church's official stance, not in favor or contraception but not to be judgmental or condemning of those who make different choices. I suspect even with 5 boys, Mitt and Ann used some or there would have been a family of 12 or 15 children by now. By the way, we don't agree on much, but I commend you for your honest choices. Too many people don't seem to know themselves and make a very bad decision for themselves when it comes to children. Not everyone is ready or wants to be a parent. Should be something you want and have thought about and are ready for.

Not at all taken out of context. I watched the video quite carefully: When asked specifically about the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the constitutional right to privacy (as decided in Griswold v CT) Romney responds clearly that he believes the Supreme Court decided improperly.

If you think this is out of context, I would wonder why.

check for honest sources on the later figures later. Given the problems he seems to think telling the simple truth will cause him with voters, I imagine that won't be a problem.

What's with this guy? And Ryan, for that matter? Besides being much farther to the right than most voters, of course. These aren't little lies he's telling. Half the country is female.
