How many of us here dabbled in witchcraft as a teen?

I got to thinking about O'Donnell's defense which seems to be the standard, "Who didn't do this when she/he was a teen?". I must have been the biggest stick in the mud when I was a kid. I never broke the law. I never stole things. I never raced my parents' car. I didn't smoke or drink. My parents liked my friends and my friends parents liked me. I never dabbled in witchcraft. Gee. I guess I am not qualified to run for office as a Republican.

I know. What do you think the repubs S/M - totally disgusted

alcoholic Coke-sniffer-in-Chief before finding salvation? Even "I never inhaled?"

Apples and oranges. The subject at hand is not even witchcraft, seances, horoscopes, astrology, mediums, etc. It is more specifically (out of her own mouth) deliberately pal-ing around with a satanic ritualist and his cult cohorts.

Once again... you are quoting her wrong - but that's the norm for libs

[ In Reply To ..]
If you are going to quote someone you should at least get the quote correct. She didn't say who didn't do this when she/he was a teen? (as in what teen didn't dabble in witchcraft) She said - "How many of you did not hang out with questionable folks in high school?"

If you're chomping at the bit to cut down someone in the tea party or someone in the republican party at least cut them down on a correct quote.

As for hanging around with questionable kids in high school - heck yea. who didn't. Had I known they were questionable back then I would have picked different friends, and most everyone else I know says the same thing.

As for hanging around questionable people...it's not just limited to the pubs. Plenty of crats too. You want to jump at the shot to cut down Odonnell because of her witchcraft affiliation but you'll give Hillary a free pass on her seances she held in the WH to channel Eleanor Roosevelt. But then Nancy Reagan consulted with mediums. What I'm saying is its on both sides.

But at least have the decency to quote someone correctly. That is the meaning of quote marks ("...").

Nice try but no cigar.

Was there blood scattered here and there on a sacrificial altar - at HCs seance?

Luckily with Hillary, Nancy & Odonnell no blood or sacrificed children I understand.

But who know what the rest of them out there do. Nothing would surprise me. ROFL.

Really? Then how is it that OD decided to continue to hang out - with them after that 1st date?

I personally like that she "dabbled" in witchcraft for what - a couple days (or dates). She probably had an acquantance that was in witchcraft and she was curious. No big deal. But of course the main streem is making this out to be something it is not. I also like that Hillary had a seances and that Nancy Reagan consulted with mediums. - Think outside the box man.

But once again you are deflecting off of the topic at hand - Liberals saying she said something she did not (and putting quotes around). If you are going to quote someone get the quote right and not make up something because it's what you want it to be.

Nice try again - Thanks for the laugh again.

Witches do not hold bloody satanic sacrifices. Witches do not worship or believe in Satan. You might want to educate yourself on the religion.

I know you want to believe that all republicans are Satan worshippers and all hold "bloody satanic sacrificial rituals", but I assure you my dear, no matter what you have read in the tabloids that is not true.

No, you don't get it.

She clearly stated her first date was a midnight picnic on a blood-splashed altar while talking about her decision to pal around with the witches. I inserted the satanic modifier because I know that witches do not practice satanic rites. All I did was present the context of 80s satanism hysteria and observe that she made her decision against that contextual backdrop despite being brought to a bloody altar at midnight by her BF. I further stated that even the dorkiest of teens probably would have had the sense to stop and think about that decision when confronted with that first date bloody sacrificial altar, given the context of the times.

BTW, I also never once mentioned republicans. I did mention the fringe extremists OF THE 80s who ignited the hysteria when describing the context (a provable fact), but you are the one who connected your own dots, dear.
You seem to be re-writing what she said though - Knowledge is Power - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Her words were

âOne of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar,â she said. âWe went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar.â

I believe she did no such thing no matter what she says. I have no idea why she would have said it. Maybe she felt intimidated because most of the guests were athiest.

She insulted witches by associating them with satan. If she had been "hanging around" with a witch or knew anything about the religion she would know the two don't match up. Unless it was not a witch she dated but a satan worshipper.

As for putting in your own spin of bloody and sacrificial you still tried to re-write what she said.

Either way...the witchcraft topic is so non-important. What is important is how she is going to vote. I don't care what her religious viewpoints are. I like that she is not extreme right or left. She knows what the people want and she is going to vote for what the people who elect her want. She will listen to the people from her state. I think it's a great way to start. Kick all the bums out who are there only to benefit their own careers and wallets.

"I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven. I did. I did. I was a witch. Wait, that's exactly why. Because I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what thy told me they do. I mean, on one of my dates, my first date was with a witch on a satanic altar, and I didn't know it. And I mean, there was a little blood there and stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, we went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic alter, tee-hee-tee-hee-tee-hee." When talking about the blood, she used body language to illustrate the point by fluttering fingers on outstretched arms, then making treading motions as one might do in a swimming pool. That's the transcript. The link to the video is below and by the looks of it, you need to take another peek.

Wow. So you think you know better than she, what she did on her first date? Seriously? What does Bill Mahar being an atheist have to do with this and exactly how do you know that most of the guests were atheists? Can you please name those atheists on that panel? Did you even see the video? She was laughing, smiling, animated, babbling and basically having a grand ole time. Is this what you call intimidation? As a matter of fact, the panel was fairly dumbstruck at what they were hearing and remained restrained for the most part, by my view.

She did not associate witches with satan. She said she had a date with a witch who treated her to a midnight picnic on a satanic altar. I agree with your defensive comments about witches and the thought also crossed my mind that the guy was a satan worshiper, but she was just a babe in the woods who "didn't know," like she said...the blood might have been her first clue.

What part of context do you not get? I wrote about the decade when Christine reached first date age and described the very real historic background of satanic hysteria. The decade corresponds roughly with her ages of 12-22. That hysteria was being talked up all over the airways, newpapers, magazines and on the radio, and was showing up in graffiti, musics, videos, games and all sorts of media she would have had access to. No spin. It is called CONTEXT. I remember it well, being a single parent of a school-age son who entered his teen years during toward decade's end, so I was paying close attention.

The witchcraft topic seems important enough to you to merit a defensive post at the very least. You do realize that there are folks all over the country making up their own minds about this, don't you?

Not extreme left or right? Boy, do you need to do some homework. What do you call denying abortions to rape victims and dismantling social security and Medicare? Might want to inspect some Delaware polls to see how many people here support those views.

Sorry about the 30-second inescapable Listerine commercial before the clip.

Why they are using this against O'Donnell just shows that they are running scared.

Toomey vs. Sestak. Sestak brags about his 31 years "leading the country" while in the service. Uh, didn't know he was the president, while stating Toomey had a career on Wall Street for years. I looked it up. Yeah, after college, he worked there for a couple years, not his whole career.

Kanjorski is out-and-out lying about the pub candidate.

Rendell stated casino money will go to reduce property taxes. Guess where $10 million went? For an airport runway in a county near NY state and $10 million to Arlen Spector's library.

I'm sick of the lies from both parties, but the dems are really breaking a record here.

Running scared from all that 80s satanic ritual practice fun? Surely you jest. - Speaking of context,

[ In Reply To ..]
Rumors of satanic ritual abuse ran rampant during that decade, remember? Some alleged practices (especially cult-based) were so bizarre, a detailed description of them might get one banned from the forum, but in general these included devil worship, desecration of Christian graves, orgies, necrophilia, ingestion of bodily fluids and excrements (also used in pseudosacrificial rites), cannabilism, infanticide, human sacrifice, sexual abuse, physical and verbal child abuse, torture, etc. Whether rumored or real, the fear fueled by fringe conspiracy theories and promoted by the media, (sound familiar?), psychologists, talk show hosts, churches, religious groups, police departments and parents is the stuff of modern-day urban legend.

This hideous "fad" led to highly controversial confessions and testimony extracted from terrified children, some victims of abuse, others diagnosed (and undergoing drug therapy) with MPD and bipolar disorders. Other manifestations of the satanic ritual fallout during the 1980s include the preschool sexual abuse hysteria, rumors of children being bred for sacrifice, pornography and prostitution, moral panic, false memory syndrome, and perpetrator profiling, just to name a few. Oh, and by the way, it was a GLOBAL phenomenon.

Christine ODonnells decision did not happen in a vacuum...or did it? Where were her parents when she was hanging out with witches after that 1st date at the altar? It is ridiculous to try to trivialize this by brushing it off as teenage experimentation, then generalze by saying we all did it. The original poster had it right. Most of us, even as hormone-storming teens, would have had the sense to pay attention to that blood-on-a-satanic-sacrificial-altar-at-the-midnight-picnic red flag.

So much for the vet-less tea party candidate selection process.

Sorry. I am just not that impressed with her credentials so far, especially the part about redirecting campaign funds, falsifying official documents, ducking taxes, demonstrating fiscal responsibility by coming to the brink of house foreclosure, her sense of entitlement to campaign-financed shopping sprees and entertainment, being secretive about how she makes a living, and lying about her education. Kinda sorta does not give me the feeling that she's just like the rest of us as she would have us believe (call me crazy), which some folks might find insulting and hypocritical. I most certainly do not think she is fit for office, considering we have only known her for what...five minutes?

Oh, I almost forgot. I do not support the idea of forcing rape victims to birth their rapist's offspring, dismantling social security and doing away with Medicare, so forgive me, but I have no intention of getting over myself on those issues.

How many times do people have to post her quotes, yet you still keep repeating the same lies. Once again, since you are unable to understand this, here is her quote (a quote means the actual words someone speaks) -

âOne of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar,â she said. âWe went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar.â

Nowhere in her quote is there anything about blood (or sacrifices) as one poster wrote.

Speaking of quotes, please compare your version to the FULL version I just posted above in the Ahem. Using Quotes and Editing out Inconvenient Babble thread. You seem to suffer from the same affliction. You will notice there is a link to the video where she mentions the blood where you can compare the full version to what she said and try your dead-level best to catch a mistake that would provide you with an opening for aother slam.

Also, you do not seem to understand the difference between direct quotations and paraphrasing, which last time I checked is not a crime. Guess you were just looking for some way to sling that petty little lie slur. Feel better now?

Morals are suddenly non-issues? Does that include - dems, progs, libs, indies, mods, or
[ In Reply To ..]
is it only tea partiers who get this very special dispensation? Misappropriation of funds (with no visible source of income), falsifying documents, ducking taxes and lying....all okeedokee, huh? But wait. Wasn't that Christine who worked on behalf of conservative moral issues against pornography and abortion, promoting abstinence (which she was against before she went the way of the evangelicals), and figuring out how to apply biblical principles to public policy? This must be the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do stance on morality and makes one wonder exactly how she and her supporters define that concept.

Lets talk record. Whoops. Christine I-never-joined-a-coven-tee-hee ODonnell has no voting record, only failed attempts at being elected to office, though she did manage to rack up $23,000 in campaign debt, even after failing to reimburse volunteers for out-of pocket expenses and stiffing her staffers and consultants.

What else can qualify a candidate? Education? Whoops again. Lied about when she got her degree when she equated ATTENDING graduation ceremonies with her class of 1993 to graduating with them. Then there was that nasty business of the university withholding her degree and later suing her for the $4800 tuition debt which it took 10 years for her to pay off. What about work experience? Yet another whoops, and perhaps the thing she is most secretive about.

Aside from getting money from various conservative groups to promote those moral stands and lobbying Congress, grant money from conservative think tanks and some TV appearances (including RealTime with Bill Maher x22), one of the only real jobs she can conjure up is that stint with the Intercollegiate Studies Institute who fired her for running a clandestine for-profit business on the side. Christine promptly turned around and sued them for gender discrimination and tried to blame them for delaying her education (as if her foot-dragging on tuition payback werent enough to do that all by itself). One might conclude she is not beyond playing that gender card to either get what she wants or to bail her out of trouble. She also tried to extort 6.9 million from them for pain and anguish, claiming this was caused by (now hold onto your hat) the institute's CONSERVATIVE BELIEFS! Is this hypocrisy on steroids, or what? Oh, before I forget, she does not pass that all-important muster applied to Obama. She has never owned a business (gasp!).

I could go on and on about the one-woman disaster area's record on fiscal responsibility, tax evasion, sense of entitlements, more lies, etc., but I prefer to touch upon that last measure of viable candidacy...her political positions on the issues...you know, those pesky little things Mentor Palin advised her to stay mum about in lieu of allowing Fox to channel for her? Lets see. Rape and incest victims must be denied abortions, no stem cell research allowed, drill baby drill, global warming is a myth, give me guns or give me death, repeal HCR and maintain insurance-giants friendly system at all costs, raising retirement age while being obtuse about previously expressed support of abolishing SS and Medicare, and resurrecting all things Bush. BTW, she was for human cloning (as we can plainly see by her Palinesque presentation) before she was against it.

You then think that libs are free from having a high standard of morals.

I didn't bring specific political parties into the issue but you did. You seem to want to argue political party (clubs), when it should be about issues. Who cares whether she is a crat, pub, green, libertarian, tea party or whatever party. Can she do the job. If she's elected we will find out.

First to get the Odonnell issue out of the way. She is not a witch now (at least my understanding - DONT quote me on it because I cannot find any articles when searching to see if she is a practicing witch. My understanding is that she was not even a practicing witch when she was a child. She dated a witch (from her words) a couple of times. Second, her religious viewpoints do not concern me. I don't care if she is a catholic, mormon, baptist, muslim, or witch. It's her viewpoints. How is she going to vote. Is she going to stand with the people who elect her or is she going to go against them like the current crowd in there now (BOTH sides).

If you are talking about special treatment lets talk about the liberals in office. In searching to find more information I came across this article.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/letters/gop_toil_and_trouble_donnell_witch_tV2HOZPK8MR6uY0QkeUPRO?CMP=OTC-rss&FEEDNAME=

If you're going to talk about ducking taxes look no further than the democrat party. Can we say Geitner. We can start with him. Morals? Yeah, lets talk about Dodd, Franks, Waters, Rangel, Pelosi, Reid, Clintons, etc. No morals there. etc, etc, etc. But I guess your okay with tax evaders, misappropriation of funding, stealing from campaign funds for themselves, insider trading, getting sweetheart deals, etc, etc, etc ONLY if its a democrat.

I'm not even going to address the rest of the message. Just a rant condemning her on issues that are no worse than what democrats have done. To include yours truly.

She has explained her issues about her degree. Yeah, she had to pay for her education herself. She didn't have mommy and daddy to pay for it for her. She had to work for it. She could not get her degree until the debt was paid off. I worked at an college and my boss was in the same boat. Until he paid off his school loan (which he was still doing in his 40s) they would not give him his degree. However, because he finished and passed his classes they let him graduate with his class. He just didn't get that piece of paper. Unlike one prominent democrat who claimed he went to Columbia when he never did. So your accusations are biased and your giving a free ride to your "club".

My point is this. I don't care if she was a witch when she was a child or if she is one now or if she only dated a guy a couple times who said he was a witch. She wasn't sacrificing babies on an alter to Satan and eating their hearts out while they were still warm. She wasn't sacrificing animals, dancing naked under the stars to a wicker man, or any of the other ridiculous accusations people come up with. She was a child when she had that friend (was interested in, dabbled in or whatever it was people are accusing her of).

I will be interested to see what her voting record is. What issues does she support and not support. Will she do her job the way the people of her state direct her to or is she going to be another self-gratifying dirty politician that is in office now.

As for not having any experience and taking on a job in politics?....oh you don't even want to go there.

2014 is light years away in terms of the politial time line and should the regressives manage to pull off an upset in November (which I seriously doubt), I will take a front-row seat and hunker down with my bucket of popcorn, boxes of Milk Duds and Red Hots and watch the games begin. I'll stayed tuned as the nation struggles to endure the punishment of and survive the fallout from yet another two years of Bush policy. I will take special interest in the voter's reactions to the reversal of HCR, which will:

1. Deprive children and their parents with pre-existing conditions access to health care, something they currently have under HCR.
2. Cancel the existing small business tax credit that helps them afford employee insurance.
3. Cancel existing coverage for preventative care.
4. Cancel existing coverage for dependents up to age 26.
5. Increase the current cost of coverage for early retirees.
6. Eliminate the independent appeals process.
7. Remove safeguards against health care fraud.
8. Reinstate rescission, lifetime and annual limits.
9. Open up that donut hole again.
10. Remove funding for public health programs, small rural hospitals and providers and research for health care effectiveness.
11. Remove quality assurance initatives for Medicare, Medicaid and CHIPS.
12. Remove Medicaid flexibility for states.
13. Remove tax credits for adoption assistance programs.
14. Remove funding for new therapies development.
15. Remove tax credits for health care professionals.
16. Reinstate taxes on health benefits provided by impoverished American Indian Tribes to their members.
17. Abolish the National Healthcare Workforce Commission.
18. Remove funding for health care professions student loans and scholarships.
19. Remove new tax revenues generated from indoor tanning facilities. Boehner outta love that one.
20. Remove health insurance companies accountability for unreasonable rate hikes.

All of the above HCR measures either have been implemented or are slated to be in place by the end of 2010. Thus, in one fell swoop, one self-righteous and smug act, they render moot any planning and preparation that was done or is currently underway. The cost in terms of wasted monies spent to date on implementation of the above will be astronomical, not to mention the jobs loss it will create. Guess some twisted folks find this amusing, but I would be willing to bet that those whose lives are wrecked by the GOP plan to repeal HCR while they attempt to reinvent it in their own names will not even think it is funny.

On the up side, this will only serve to remind voters why they soundly rejected same-ole-same-ole in 2008.

For all of those who have been against health care reform, I hope you have a lot of money because I'm afraid we are going to need a big savings account to continue our insurance premiums. Better be getting ready because it will happen. The market concentration for health insurance is so monopolized in some areas that insurance companies are willing to raise prices and lose customers in an effort to improve their bottom line, a leading insurance broker tol ...

None Of Bernie's Proposals Will Raise Taxes For Average....smJan 25, 2016
Americans, except for the health care bill. I don't know many people who make more than $200,000 a year. So consider that 2.2% income tax alongside what comes out of your paycheck for your employer's health insurance and what an average visit to the doctor's office costs (and then imagine what it costs for x-rays and surgery and things of that nature, and heaven forbid you have a medical emergency). Is 2.2% really that high? I've been told Briton pays 10%. The top 2% of Amer ...

Will Universal Health Care Raise Our Taxes?Feb 06, 2016
I see people cringe when Sanders says he will raise taxes so he can get his healthcare system in place. I would welcome a tax increase if it means we do not have to pay insane insurance premiums. I look at it this way, if my family has to pay $1,000 or even $3,000 more in taxes but then we get our healthcare free of charge. We just saved $3,500 to $4,000 over all. I will take 3 grand more in taxes if it means I do not have to spend 7 grand that same year in insurance and medical costs. People ne ...

Free tickets draw suckers in, but if they're hungry, they'll have to shell out 500 smackeroos at the general reception.  For the privileged private photo-op, $10,000, all on behalf of Bachmann's campaign, that tireless defender of Minnesota's working folks.  Meanwhile, Tarryl Clark, her democratic opponent, is asking for $10 donations.     ...

Role Of Women According To Mormon Doctrine: Bear And RaiseOct 19, 2012
Romney's "If you must have women working" attitude is a direct reflection of this instruction to women from "The Role of Righteous Women," "Some women, because of circumstances beyond their control, must work. We understand that. We understand further that as families are raised, the talents God has given you and blessed you with can often be put to effective use in additional service to mankind. Do not, however, make the mistake of being drawn off into secondary tasks which will cause the ...

Bill Kristol Thinks Republicans Should Be Willing To Raise Taxes.Nov 12, 2012
rint Bill Kristol thinks Republicans should be willing to raise taxes. It’s not the first time. By Suzy Khimm , Updated: November 11, 2012 John Boehner suggested last week that Republicans would be open to compromise on taxes — so long as tax rates don’t go up. Now Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol has suggested that they give way on that, too. On Fox News this Sunday, Kristol said:  You know what? It won’t kill the country if ...

For The Person Below Who Doesn't Think Unions Help Raise Prices, Here's A Few Teeny FactsApr 15, 2011
A few facts for you. There are 3 large unions in the U.S.: the AFL-CIO, SEIU, and National Education Association. Do you know what the AFL-CIO initials stand for? The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a voluntary federation of 56 national and international labor unions. They represent 12.2 million members, including 3.2 million members in Working America, its community affiliate.  Affiliates of the AFL-CIO are: Airline ...

Get A Raise? Employer-paid Health Insurance? Retirement Plan?Feb 17, 2011
I am horrified at what is happening in Wisconsin and many other states.  There has been a systemic effort to take away our rights and this is just the latest. If you are a working medical transcriptionist you know only too well about the cuts to wages and benefits.  The corporate policies (using political influence) have offshored work, cut wages and benefits, driven workers into unemployment, so that the remaining workers will  grasp at any reduced wages and benefits that might ...

NO COLA Raise For Social Security/Disabled Recipients Next YearOct 12, 2010
Seniors and disabled Americans looking forward to the annual increase in their Social Security check will be disappointed this year. Officials with the Social Security Administration have informed aides in Congress that the decision will be announced on October 15, just two weeks before the election, according to staffers and people familiar with the SSA's plan. This will be the second year in the History of SS that we won't be getting a cost of living raise. ...

Health Insurers' Fast Food Holdings Raise FlagApr 16, 2010
(CBS)  The investments of large insurers of health, disability and long term care in fast food chains like McDonald's and Pizza Hut have raised the interest of a study in the American Journal of Public Health, reports CBS Radio News' John Hartge. The Harvard Medical School's Dr. Wesley Boyd, an author of the study, finds it ironic that these firms would invest nearly $2 billion in companies that sell food often linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease. "The insurance i ...

Well, Hillary Won Hands DownSep 26, 2016
I really don't know what Trump's sniffling was about, but all I could think about was how I want to hand the docs a tissue and tell them to go blow their nose when they are dictating and snorting.   Maybe he has pneumonia and snorts coke? When Clinton got into her subject, she was really good.  It is too bad she is not more comfortable when speaking, then she would be phenomenal.    Wow, Trump turned into a babbling fool that last half.    ...

Shaking HandsMay 24, 2010
This is a silly pet peeve of mine.  First let me say that I don't like the "turn around and greet your neighbor" in church where everyone shakes hands.  Immediately afterwards I have a strong urge to wash my hands, and try to remember to bring the antiseptic wipes.   It is not healthy, but here's my main issue (As Jane Velez-Mitchell would say)   I always thought that women should not shake hands.  To me it is just a manly thing to do, and just t ...
