Obamacare architect wants to raise penalities
Posted: Oct 27, 2016
'The law's working as designed. . . However, it could work better. . . we need a larger mandate penalty.'
Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber joined CNN on Wednesday morning to say the best way to fix the failing health-care law he engineered would be to increase the “penalty.”
A recent study found that Obamacare insurance plans will cost many Americans about 22 percent more next year. For some — like those in Phoenix, Arizona — the cost is much worse, about a 145 percent increase. Since the news broke earlier this week, the Obama administration has frantically been trying to spin the news.

to raise the penalties to force you into it, because as the pool risk of sick people grows the rates of those who subsidize it will have to grow just to chase it.
About 77% of people will get subsidies to keep for these increased paid for by the rest of us.

Of course Obamacare isn't working. Working for an insurance company for ten years, profit drives the insurers and their actuaries. How can insurers make any money with people who have not really been health driven in their life to begin with, have more serious medical issues to address along with the ridiculously high cost of hospital visits today! It was bound to fail.
That was the plan, to fail. So people have to turn to - state run healthcare. If the

Why is that so hard to understand? Why can't we for once just talk about those of us paying for it? Don't we matter? Why is it always about "poor sick people?"

when I became the caregiver for a sibling group of 4 (not my own children) and then later adopted them. They were a family member's children that were removed from the parents for neglect, and they either came to me or would go into foster care. They came with no money until the adoption was settled. Even at that point, I myself as an adult did not qualify for Medicaid. I was low income enough to qualify for food stamp benefits, but not Medicaid. The kids got Medicaid, but again I did not qualify in the state I live in.

(he was going to start culinary school the day before surgery) I said good, he is unemployed, he can go strictly as an indigent, belly up on the bills and not have to deal with this mess they call "insurance." The deductibles would have killed him.
Nope - all smiles

Your unemployed friend would have/could have and should have qualified for regular medicaid in all 50 states.
Your friend's cost would not have been zero, but very low.
The money that covers all the medically indigent (those who do not have insurance or are underinsured) has been there for decades - starting in the 1980s. Hospitals get HUGE sums of money (millions) to cover the medically indigent.
The problem is that people who do not have any insurance just don't go until they are seriously and expensively sick. That is costing YOU your tax dollars as the government covers the higher and higher costs to hospitals to pay for the soaring costs of people who wait until they are seriously and expensively sick. How many times have you typed a report where the person comes in with gangrene of his/her foot and NEVER knew they had serious diabetes?
If they had some health insurance (albeit not cadillac insurance), they would go before they were at death's door. Then the costs would not be so enormous.
Whilst the medically indigent just go belly up on their bills, the hospitals cannot and stay open. So YOUR TAX DOLLARS over all these years have been supporting the hospitals who take care of those medically indigent.
It is reasonable to expect people who can afford some health insurance in case they do get sick to buy some health insurance so YOUR TAX DOLLARS are not paying for their gallbladder removal or appendix removal, etc.
Health is a right but it is not FREE.
