Regardless of whether or not you will vote for the office of president, there are other offices which need votes.
There are issues of various types, local and state issues, that need a vote as well.
In my state of Ohio, each local county PAYS for the cost in that county. Whether anybody shows up or not, the polls are still open, the poll workers still get paid. The polling machines are still rented. In short, there is a minimum cost to run the election.
In my state, if there is not enough of a margin between issues or candidates, then the county or all counties (depending on the issue or office) must do a run off election to determine a clear margin for a win.
My county cannot afford the original election, let alone a run off.
I suspect there are other counties and other states that also have the issue of facing a run off if there is not a clear margin.
These are your tax dollars. Why would you want to pay double?
