How's it going? I'm watching the debate - solely because of Rand - anon

Packed house. He's raised almost $6 million for vets. - nm

...and on 24 hours notice. Amazing.

Vets know when they are being used - trump hiding behind Vets

[ In Reply To ..]
I am happy the vets get help from where ever they can. However, I do not think the Vets will forget what Trump said about John McCain being a POW. Suddenly, Trump has discovered the Vets when he is afraid of being confronted by Megyn Kelly regarding his disgusting comments?

It is so obvious. Just like Trump saying he is a Christian. He will say anything to try buy a vote. It is just so phony.

By the way, how will the vets receive this money? Will they have to say a pledge to Trump? Will it just go into Trump's campaign fund?

Trump has supported vets for a very long time. - Nice try, though.
[ In Reply To ..]
Why don't you try this for a change. Learn about a topic and then talk about it, instead of us having to teach you afterward.
How has Trump supported vets? By going to boarding school? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
And personal attacks on other posters are allowed to continue on this board as long as the attack is on a liberal.

Same old, same old.
Suggesting you learn before speaking is not a personal attack. - You can start by researching your own question.
[ In Reply To ..]
Trump has been talking about veteran's issues throughout his campaign - it didn't start last night.
Trump in his entire privileged life has NEVER done a single - thing for veterans! nm

Don't worry, we vets are onto Trump - XQC
[ In Reply To ..]
We haven't forgotten about his words on Senator McCain only last year. Anybody who has ever been in the military knows BS when they hear it. We know when we are being used as cannon fodder and a political chess piece. He wants to raise money for us? Where was he years ago when it wasn't fashionable? Where was he when it was his time to serve during Vietnam? Read this on "The Smoking Gun"

Deferments Helped Trump Dodge Vietnam

Yep, we know BS when we see it. Keep your money, Trump - it's tainted.
You don't speak for me, thank you. - Me, or most others.
[ In Reply To ..]
What insufferable cheek.
Fair enough, support Trump all you want - XQC
[ In Reply To ..]
but don't be surprised when he forgets all about veterans when it no longer earns him any praise or attention.
You don't speak for me either. - How dare you attempt it.
[ In Reply To ..]
Especially since democrats have done so little for our veterans, including starting at the top!

Donald Trump donated $1 million of his own money yesterday. How much did any millionaire democrat donate?
Sure, I stand corrected... - XQC
[ In Reply To ..]
Now hear this:

There are still some vets out there who cling to the idea that Trump is somehow serving them in some way, unaware that they are being used by his campaign and will be tossed aside once this is all over. I do not speak for THEM.

Everyone knows how the libs feel about the military. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It carries over to the vets. Never forget the disrespect shown to Vietnam vets by Fonda and her ilk.
"Liberals support our troops and our veterans 100%. What... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
they do not support is sending our young people to fight and die in wars that only benefit the military industrial complex and defense contractors. Isn't it funny that every time a bill comes up that would benefit our veterans, especially the disabled ones, the republicans vote it down? Why would the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorse Bernie Sanders? Most veterans know who has supported them and is really on their side.

PROUD?? - Effie

[ In Reply To ..]
I wonder if the people in Germany who flocked to hear Hitler were PROUD too...

Good point - XQC

[ In Reply To ..]
There is something very Hitler-esque in this. This is someone who tells people what they want to hear just to gain their support. Pandering to an entire population alarmed at the direction society is headed and capitalizing on their fears. This is exactly what Hitler did in the 1930s. People back then in Germany liked what they heard, someone giving a voice to what they were feeling, people who were tired of financial and social oppression heaped upon them after WW-I. It didn't matter to them that the solutions he was offering were so draconian that they eventually brought down Germany's destruction. We are doomed to repeat history if we do not learn from this.

And I say again, as a veteran I do not appreciate being used to further his political agenda. So he got money for us? Somehow I don't think I'll be seeing any of it. Still, it makes good press, which is really all he seems to care about - what his poll ratings are, how many cameras are in the room. He seems desperate for approval and very nasty when he doesn't get it. Very juvenile middle-child stuff and not characteristic of an effective leader of the free world.

He's a businessman selling a product. Wake up people. AND STOP USING US VETERANS!

First, thank you for your service. I agree with both your post and the post below. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Trump strikes me as a petulant child who is, indeed, using our vets and that is unacceptable. At the same time, Obama is definitely tyrannical. For me, I'm liking Rand more with each debate.
Yep, I see the point of the other post too - XQC
[ In Reply To ..]
and Obama has his weak points, although I disagree he is a "Muslim in chief." Attempts at gun control have not really had results. I understand the desire for it, but I also believe in the right to bear arms for personal safety if for no other reason, and the idea of Big Brother types of background checks for gun ownership can, shall we say, backfire.

But really... boycotting a debate because an interviewer is "unfair?" Picking up all of your toys and going home? Real kid stuff. What would happen when the going gets tough and you can't just walk away in a national crisis? You can't just sell your stock when things get rough, you have to stick it out and make the best of it and LEAD YOUR NATION. You might not be able to buy your way out of a problem, which is something he cannot grasp, and you still need to lead your nation even when there are no cameras and no polls giving you praise. It's called character and leadership. Any veteran knows this, especially Vietnam Vets who still did their duty even when it seemed pointless. It's a shame he's using us in this way.

And I appreciate your thanks, truly. It was an honor to serve in the U.S. Army. As a Vietnam Era vet, we have had very few thanks until now. God bless us all.

As a veteran myself, I DO support his efforts - and so should you.

[ In Reply To ..]
Incidentally, you should do a bit of investigation on the so-called veteran's group that rejected the Trump effort - and on its leader as well.

You'll be embarrassed.
I wouldn't give a rip if the devil raised money for vets. - So who is politicizing it?
[ In Reply To ..]
Not Trump. This guy Rieckhoff or whatever his name is, he's a piece of work. Takes a huge salary, spends $3 million on "awareness programs", etc. He's ultra-liberal and Fox News last mentioned the group in 2007 when it came out for gays in the military or something like that. Of course, now it suits Fox to make them seem legitimate without mentioning everything they know about the group.
A lot of veterans are rejecting Trump - XQC
[ In Reply To ..]
not sure what you mean or why I'd be embarassed?
No they're not. I've been all over this today. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
So you're still trying to speak for vets. STOP IT!!
FYI, Bernie Sanders is the....sm - VTMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder Paul Rieckhoff tweeted Wednesday that he would decline any contributions that came from the event, which Trump has proposed in place of his attending Fox News’ debate this week.

“If offered, @IAVA will decline donations from Trump’s event. We need strong policies from candidates, not to be used for political stunts,” he said.

* * *

Two other veterans’ groups also distanced themselves from Trump’s announcement.

The Wounded Warrior Project said it was not aware of the candidate conducting any fundraising efforts on its behalf.

Meanwhile, VoteVets.org, which calls itself the nation’s largest progressive veterans group, issued a statement titled: “Don’t hide from Megyn Kelly behind us.”

Trump has tried to tie fundraising for veterans with debates in the past. He said he had considered skipping CNN debates in September and December unless the network donated to veterans’ groups.

Pretty sure you got that wrong. Obama is more - "Hitler-esque" than any

[ In Reply To ..]
other politician. Making a country reliant on government handouts and taking away of gun rights, freedom of speech, etc. Now that is something to fear, not a man making money for vets and who cares about the US being a strong nation again, you know, before the Muslim in chief.

Probably as proud as those among the "Greek" columns - in 2008.
