Lots of common sense in this SOTU speech.

Posted: Jan 12, 2016

doom, gloom, spooks, goblins and magical thinking the right has been spewing lately.

;

Ray of light was from Nikki Haley - NOT Obozo

[ In Reply To ..]
Thank God it was his FINAL speech! He's full of more hot air and (?) than ever. I just hope it's not too late to undo the devastation he has done to this once great country.

Haley's fantastic. I hope she runs for Pres - next time around. nm

Ugh. After she spoke, it was like my TV set - needed to be disinfected.

[ In Reply To ..]
nnm
Yes, she completely "whitewashed" - the whole Roof affair
[ In Reply To ..]
Run her for president. Warren will mop the floor with her.
(As long as they disinfect the mop afterward...) - ;)

If she is angling for VP - it will not be for Trump

[ In Reply To ..]
The right wing were all over her comments about not demonizing Muslims, like they really hate anyone telling them they can't do that for some reason. Yay on her for that! The rest, meh.

Good for her for standing up to that mindset, but it is definitely a strike against Trump and if he is the nominee she is probably out of the running, but with Trump you never know.
Donald goes by the polls and ratings - if a woman is pretty
[ In Reply To ..]
and marginally Republican, he would choose her.

After all, he cherishes women. He has been married at least 3 times and has been caught cheating, so I guess this must be true.

Quote on his daughter: "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."

Obongo downplays ISIS - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
and repeatedly demonstrates denial of reality.

He was right about ISIS. They present "some" - risk to US citizens, occasionaly,

[ In Reply To ..]
but no, they are NOT taking over America. The right creates such mountains out of molehills.

Spent most of his time scolding. Not the speech - of a leader, but he's never been a LEADER.

[ In Reply To ..]
The man doesn't know the definition of the word. A leader is someone who can inspire others to follow his vision. Obama only knows how to blame Republicans for his own dismal failures - which are legion.

Dismal failures? Exactly what are those in your opinion? - Leader?

[ In Reply To ..]
I have noted MUCH needed progress during O's 8 years in office. Progress that seemed almost impossible in that time length considering what he had dumped in his lap at the beginning. Progress that I hope is not undone after the next election. O did not only change and improve our quality of life presently, but hopefully got the ball rolling for the future. Whether you are D or R, you have to agree that politics should not always be about lining the pockets of the rich. You have to agree we need a forward thinking president who knows the economy, environment, the middle class, and the poor all matter greatly.

As for a leader being someone who can inspire others to follow their vision....he was elected twice. Nuff said.

I didn't hear scolding. I heard a lot to inspire. - Open minded

[ In Reply To ..]

Did Paul Ryan find anything, anything - to support in the SOTU?

[ In Reply To ..]
I do not think you can be an American and not find something to support in that SOTU. Or you are just plain childish.

I'm no fan of Ryan, but the one good thing about - him as SOTH was our relief,

[ In Reply To ..]
as TV viewers, at not having to look at that bloated, alcohol-infused, sourpuss face of John Boehner scowling over the President's left shoulder anymore. At least Ryan can be looked at without causing intense nausea in the viewer.

As an MT, I was wondering - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
if perhaps he needs to see his dentist? What was going on with all that tongue work?

My other thought is that perhaps he has a very bad case of hemorrhoids or pin worms. I am sure those facial expressions were not smirks, were they?
I thought he was chewing gum - last year it was Boehner
[ In Reply To ..]
on the cell phone. This time Ryan chewing gum.
He smokes. Gum to cover up cigarette breath. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
xx
Paul Ryan smokes, really? - I never heard that one
[ In Reply To ..]
I only recall seeing him in that idiotic working out photo, so does not seem to mesh with the smoking thing. If you say so though.
Yeah, I don't think he smokes--he was all upset - by the Boehner smoke smell
[ In Reply To ..]

No, that's what lefties do when they - attack law abiding gun owners

[ In Reply To ..]
x

What exactly is this paranoid obsession with guns - that so many right-leaners have?

[ In Reply To ..]
It's like it clouds all rational thought.

Obsession with guns clouding our thinking? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
And so what is the obsession with terrorists killing people in the US? How many terrorists have killed people in the US in the last year. FYI, 34,000 deaths occurred in the last year in the US by guns. That's right. US citizens killing US citizens. Many of these were not thugs gunned down in the street. They were innocent people not involved in any crime. Many were children. What kind of society ignores this?

I am all for the second amendment. I do not think anyone is trying to "disarm" Americans. Just because criminals break the law (including gun laws) does not mean we should not have specific laws. There needs to be some measure of gun "control." We have to start somewhere. These military style weapons on the street legally need to go. The person who has a shot gun, a rifle, or a hand gun is not the issue, even if they do commit a criminal act. Hunting and self-protection are not the problem. The problem is when the cops are out-armed by the criminals. These AK 47's and other military style weapons are designed for one thing, and one thing only - to kill as many people as possible as quick as possible. They should only be in the hands of our military.
Stricter gun laws should not bother law-abiding citizens - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They should make you feel hopeful. If you are issued a gun legally and are not a criminal, you should have nothing to worry about. Otherwise, for the crazies and the thugs, obtaining a gun should be made much more difficult. It will not be impossible of course. Some common sense gun control may take 50 years to become effective at all. Start now.

The problem is, gun owners are only "law-abiding" - until they use the gun on someone.

[ In Reply To ..]
And it happens far, far too often. The temptation to play with that toy must be very strong....

Welcome to - Haight-Ashberry

[ In Reply To ..]
Far out, man. Groovy.

Common sense and Obama in the same sentence does not even make sense. It's impossible.

Maybe the ray was his halo. LOL

Don't know where you've been with the doom and gloom. I've had none of that, because I've been listening to Trump. He really gives people the hope. Now there's a ray of light we know is real.

The Haight beats the Midwest any day of the week. - And the South doesnt even register - its useless.

Common Sense Health Care Nov 05, 2009
Common Sense Health Care our Nation can afford. - This makes sense to me.   The American people have spoken. They oppose government-run health care.  Republicans are on the side of the American people. What Americans want are common-sense, responsible solutions that address the rising cost of health care and other major problems. In the national Republican address on Saturday, October 31, 2009, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed Republicans’ plan for common- ...

"Common Sense" Gun Control Lies Exposed.Aug 17, 2016
know the difference between an automatic and a semi-automatic weapon. You now know more than “common sense gun control” advocates. That’s because you, the fabulous person reading this post, has at least two brain cells to rub together to form a cogent thought. Which makes you seven bajillion times smarter than the average anti-gun loon, who knows as much about guns as a lobster knows quantum physics. Therefore we’re exposing just how little anti-gun ninnies (who vote) don’t know. It’ ...

Last Night's SOTUJan 29, 2014
Well, I thought the President basically lacked passion last night. Nothing he said was with conviction like we've seen in the past. I did not find him believable. The only positive thing I really heard was that he seemed to acknowledge that the economy had not improved during his 5 years in office and he wanted the CEOs of the country to pay their people more money (obviously, I'm paraphrasing here). Hopefully, the CEOs of the MTSOs will take heed and listen to the Commander in Ch ...
