Last Night's SOTU

Posted: Jan 29, 2014

Well, I thought the President basically lacked passion last night. Nothing he said was with conviction like we've seen in the past. I did not find him believable. The only positive thing I really heard was that he seemed to acknowledge that the economy had not improved during his 5 years in office and he wanted the CEOs of the country to pay their people more money (obviously, I'm paraphrasing here). Hopefully, the CEOs of the MTSOs will take heed and listen to the Commander in Chief. Oh, he did say one thing with passion. "Global warming is a fact."

Boehner - sm

Boehner reminded me a someone with a case of pin worms. All that squirming around! He could not clap for extending unemployment benefits. Cannot remember how he looked when President Obama talked about minimum wage.

I thought the speech was great. President Obama is the same person I voted for the last 2 elections. He still has his heart in the right place. It was great to see him calling out the Republican obstructionists without being obnoxious. He is a much better person than I.

President was weak, seemed sad. - It's not about Boehner.

[ In Reply To ..]
I think he was afraid to talk too much about the catastrophic failure of Obamacare and how 61% of Americans are against it. I was shocked that he brought up the economy without blaming Bush for once. I think he realizes his liberal policies have created a huge economic mess for this country. After all, if people are not working and making good money, how is he going to collect those taxes to pay for all of his entitlement programs? Oh, print more money and call China!

I have never once watched a SOTU address. - Is that bad?

[ In Reply To ..]
I just think they're all a bunch of ra-ra, let's go team speeches, and then it's back to business as usual.

No, that's not bad. - ZvilleMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't watch either. Nothing is ever really said of any importance and nothing ever comes from them. You nailed it - it's a rah-rah team speech and then everyone goes home. It's become kinda Hollywood-ish, which I think just feeds into some of these politicians thinking they're stars of some sort.

I had to work last night, so I had a good excuse not to watch, but if I hadn't, I'm sure I could've found any number of things to do that were more important (and more enjoyable!).

So, did you hear him blaming Republicans for not (sm) - LM

[ In Reply To ..]
doing anything with the trade bill that has been in the works for years? Then today - yes today - Dirty Harry Reid refuses to bring it up for a vote. Wake up, people. This has been going on for 5 l-o-o-o-n-g years.

His own base is - BAILING ON HIM.

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know why he's whining about the lack of GOP support. His people from AK, AR, CO and LA (and possibly others) can't get far enough away from him. This, too, will cause him to use that pen because his phone won't be doing him too much good.

The most sought after photo last night was with (sm) - Abby

Guess who. No, it wasn't the President. It was Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty. How embarrassing for Mr. O.

How embarrassing for the Republican party - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
They look like fools when they bring D-list celebrities into such an honorable event. When people start yelling about "what is this country coming to?" they need to just look at the Republican party to place the blame.

Blame? For what? For many Democrats wanting to - shake his hand?

[ In Reply To ..]
No one intimated it was just Republicans - "a steady stream of Congressmen, Repubs and Dems alike" is what I read.
I don't find anything like that anywhere. Not sayint it's not true, but I'm - only finding

clamoring by Republicans, pics with Vitter, Stockman, Ryan, Graham.

I didn't see Obama really milling around for photo ops, so...

But looks like Mr. Grimm, the thug, overshadowed everyone. Too bad those with bad behavior get all the attention.

EMBARRASSING? - ProMT

[ In Reply To ..]
What an incredibly immature comment. Celebrities bring nothing to the SOTU, and neither party should rely on them to get their agendas across, but since America has dumbed down so incredibly, both parties have no choice BUT to use them.

Of course, blame the GOP. That was taught - in 2008: Obama 101.

[ In Reply To ..]
Y'all need to find a new scapegoat. It's stale and not entertaining anymore.

Reality TV cannot go away fast enough for - me.

[ In Reply To ..]
I cannot believe we had a Duck Dynasty person at the SOTU. And don't get me started on Palin and how she threw her family into the whole reality TV trend.

OH MY. Thanks for the giggles! - nm

The only one who embarrassed himself was himself who has now demoralized what used to be an honorable event. Not surprised that a reality TV show personality showed up. He has lost the trust of the majority of Americans who no longer tune into him because they are tired of being fed lies. Most don't want to hear "blame everyone else but me, even though during my campaign I promised to take responsibility for anything that would happen on my watch". Most are trying to find a solution of how they will survive during this depression. I have faith in the American people. They are smarter than you are hoping for, which is a good thing for our country. They know who is responsible for what is happening to them today. When people are yelling "what is this country coming to", they know exactly where to put the blame - on the politicians. They know that democrats are as much fault (and even more fault) than the republicans. People who have any sense know you can't blame someone (the republicans) when the other side (democrats) just come in and do whatever they want and cut out the republicans and just do what they want.

But even Clinton and Carter were not this bad.

Shows how uneducated the masses are - in this country.

Oooh, a reality TV character. Better run for his signature. How sad.

Global warming - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think he needs to start listening to a different crowd. How about the climate scientist who are experts in this. Not the people who are going to benefit financially.

But, of course, he can learn a lot from - Learjet owner Al Gore.

[ In Reply To ..]
Remember him? One of the biggest hypocrites of the millennium.

Algore - the one rakes in millions from this - sm

Here's a good article (funny name, but 100% right on assessment). Especially the last paragraph:

"If you want to know what Gore and his friends are getting out of pretending that natural climate fluctuation is a problem and caused by humans, all you have to do is follow the money."

Tuesday Night At The FightsOct 17, 2012
I have to say I do not like debates.  It seems to me that the broad audience of the American public has developed this "blood lust" akin to a boxing or wresting match or some Superbowl event.  How can someone say that this person won on style, and this one on memorization of facts and figures and then vote for them? How does that relate to them being president, or one heart beat away?
