Common Sense Health Care

Posted: Nov 5, 2009

Common Sense Health Care our Nation can afford. - This makes sense to me.

The American people have spoken. They oppose government-run health care.  Republicans are on the side of the American people.

What Americans want are common-sense, responsible solutions that address the rising cost of health care and other major problems. In the national Republican address on Saturday, October 31, 2009, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed Republicans’ plan for common-sense health care reform our nation can afford.  Boehner’s address emphasized four common-sense reforms that will lower health care costs and expand access to quality care without a government takeover of our nation’s health care system that kills jobs, raises taxes on small businesses, or cuts Medicare for seniors:

Number one: let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines.

Number two: allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do.

Number three: give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower health care costs.

Number four: end junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

For anyone interested here is a link to the site and their ideas.

GOP’s bill is 219 pages.  Democrats heath care bill is over 2000 pages.  (There is definitely something wrong with that).

Bookmarked the site. It looks pretty interesting and totally agree.

Length of bill - NJ

As to the comparitive length of the two proposals, maybe the GOP one doesn't cover nearly as much. Like doing away with denying coverage for pre-existing conditions. Like making insurance portable so you don't lapse in between coverage from one job to the next. Like doing away with arbitrary yearly and lifetime caps. And lots of other good stuff that the insurance companies want to keep because they like making millions by denying coverage.

Keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting. Time for a change.

And this change is being made by lawyers (sm) - Sick of it all

and not in the best interest of the people in this country. I truly have no problems with healthcare reform but there are more sensible ways in going about it. If this bill is so fantastic then why will they not allow it to be posted for a mere 72 hours for all to review? If this bill is so fantastic then why does it still leave millions uninsured?

Again, I welcome healthcare reform but there are just more sensible and cost-effective ways in going about it.

WE THE PEOPLE should have the RIGHT to view this bill BEFORE it is voted on as this is THE biggest legislation in this country's history.

Thank you! This is what I have been saying - Glad someone is awake

"If the bill is so fantastic why does it sill leave millions uninsured".

also - If the bill is so fantastic why are they refusing to join. NOT ONE one of them says they will join. Truth is they know how bad it is.

Yes we want health care reform. Everyone does, just not what they have planned for us.

Personally I dread the uproar and misinterpretation - by those who believe

they are capable and are not, and those who do it on purpose knowing that others will swallow whatever they say. Last time was horrific. We need a simple version for the simple folks.

Could be you've got 1800 pages of bu!!sh** (you know those little pet projects that don't have anything to do with the health care or the people).

What I've read is the GOP bill is trying to make the current system work better. Which is what Americans want. American's do not want Pelosi-care.

The plan would be less costly to taxpayers and offer less government involvement - which is what Americans want.

It would propose grants for states that use innovative solutions to expand coverage and would create "high-risk pools" to provide insurance to individuals with pre-existing conditions. Yes, that's right, you have been once again lied to by the democrat party so they can pass Pelosi-care. No matter what you want to think of those "nasty rich church-going republicans", they are working on a plan for people with pre-existing conditions to be able to get insurance and keep it.

It would propose new limits on medical malpractice suits.

It would make it easier for individuals and small businesses to pool resources to purchase insurance.

The bill would not raise taxes or mandate that individuals and business purchase insurance, as the democratic one does.

The most important thing in health care right now is:
1. Making it affordable for everyone.
2. Not being turned down because of pre-existing conditions.
3. Not losing your insurance if you get a serious illness.
4. Being able to use your insurance anywhere.

Those are all issues the republicans are trying to address. It would help if the democrats would include them in the meetings and listen to the plan instead of being dead-mind set to pass Pelosi-care. Of course, excluding themselves from it.

Americans do not want Pelosi-care and they are coming out strong saying so. They are holding peaceful marches and letting the politicians know what they want. Since congress works for the American people it would do them well to remember that.

That's not why we are settling for no change. We are moving ahead. I understand the GOP's plan will be up on the internet for all to read. Unsure when, I'll have to look it up. But at least the GOP is being open and honest with the people, unlike the party of whiners who refuse to be transparent like their Dear Leader said he would be, and are trying everything they can not to put their 2000 plus page Pelosi-care bill on the internet. I do believe they just agreed to do it today, but only after the American people spoke loud and clear.

It would do them well to remember - they work for us.

2010 - Can't come soon enough.

U R kidding, right? - harley

The dems have been working for 40 years to reform health care and have been met with nuthin but obstruction by the corporations' lackeys (ie repubs). After the current months of work with Obama practically turning himself inside out to get the repubs to engage in bipartisanship and get this country back on track, the GOP has put out their plan. And according to you, its a fine plan and we should just open wide and swallow it? kidding, right?

Pray tell, please show me where Obama has tried to engage in bipartisanship. - Just sayin ...

It has been widely reported that republicans have practically begged this man to meet with them to cover healthcare reform (do an internet search) but have been denied. I cannot remember his exact response to them but it was something along the lines of .... that's okay we have it. Again, do the research, it is all there in print.

You provided a link to a poll. As we have been told on this board whenever a poll has a poor rating of "The O" that polls do not matter.

I do believe the poster was asking for instances, not a poll that can be down one day and up the other.

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...

Judge Rules Out Health Care LawDec 13, 2010
This is good news.  Now if politicians could just make health care affordable for all.  I'd love the same rates as someone in Idaho or other states have.  Make health insurance competitive, they have to accept pre-existing conditions and nobody could ever be refused health care and I think that would be a great way for a new year.  But forcing people to buy a product they don't want is just not right and I'm glad this judge saw how unconstitutional it is. &nbs ...
