Looks like OWS is getting a lot of support

Posted: Oct 15, 2011

The Communisty Party, Socialists, Celebrities, Unions, Nancy Pelosi, Rangel, other crats, the Lamestream Media, and the list goes on.  Oh, Obama (biggest Wall Street recipient of $$$$)  feels the frustration of OWS too.  Who else is jumping on the bandwagon?

NOTE:  Hey libs, don't forget to send YOUR MONEY to the Occupy Wall Street Donation Bank.  They also will need food, clothing, warm jackets (winter is coming), shelter, i.e., YOUR HOMES would be great, cars, spare change, this may go on for a long time, so please support OWS.

I attended Occupy San Francisco today. (sm) - Meerkat

I will of course miss the pay I didn't earn today by instead attending the rally & march, but I'm so VERY glad I didn't miss this opportunity. It was a positive, uplifting experience. Unlike what that hateful link you provided says, the group was NOT made up of "mostly unemployed left wing 25-year-olds." Actually, just about every age, ethnicity and income level (except, of course, the very rich) were represented. There were families. There were business-people in suits and ties. There were so-called "hippies". There were Asians, Latinos, African-Americans and Whites. There were little children, babies, and the elderly, amputee Veterans in wheelchairs, hairdressers, plumbers, business owners, taxi drivers, cable car gripmen, bus drivers, students, dropouts, PhD's, computer programmers, gardeners, nurses, doctors, writers, architects, and of course, at least one medical transcriptionist.

The air of peace & cooperation among the participants was a surprise to me. I was afraid that since today was a global event, and because there had been occasionally violence in other cities (usually sparked by the police over-reacting), I assumed today would be the day things might get ugly. The the San Franciscans kept their cool: Protesters, spectators, and police alike were civil, polite, and respected each other. When pedestrians wanted to cross the street, we let them. When a fire truck & ambulance had to get through to go on a call, the crowd stopped, moved over onto the sidewalk, and let them pass. If a protester stepped over the boundaries we were expected to maintain, there were no clashes. The cops simply reminded us to stay over to the right, and we did.

If somebody wanted to paint a sign on a placard, someone would help them do it, and give them paint. If you needed something, somebody would do their best to help. After turning off of Market St. climbing the hill on Kearny, people were getting tired & hungry, and in addition to water, someone actually bought a huge box of donuts and passed through the crowd offering free donuts.

I overheard lots of discussions between people, not putting each other down or disrespecting their ideas, but instead coming up with constructive ideas. If they disagreed, then they simply agreed to disagree.

The main thing I picked up on today, among many, was the fact that the "99%" want some form of honesty and fairness in how this country's leaders, its stock exchange, its corporations, and its financial institutions do business and treat their employees.

I was intrigued by what seemed like the most- - photographed couple at the - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
end of the march, at City Hall: A late-middle-aged couple, extremely well-dressed. The woman in a pretty summer dress (we had a rare warm day in SF), and the man in a light brown suit... both very good-looking. Very handsome, neatly-trimmed moustache, etc. Very stylish-looking shoes, too. They looked like they could've been 2 of San Francisco's upper crust. Still, each had a sign about banks, foreclosures, greed, peace, etc. They smiled and posed freqently because photographers seemed drawn to them for some reason. Maybe because they were obviously not the "unwashed hippie mob" some pundits were saying the movement was made of. Although they didn't seem to mind their photos being taken, and would smile politely, there was also a very palpable vibe of sadness to them. Who knows.. maybe they lost their home to foreclosure, too. Anyway, I was tempted to photograph them, but didn't want to intrude on them any more than they already had been, so instead I just took a mental picture, instead. But it would have been interesting to have found out more about them, why they were there, what their story was, etc.

Perhaps you should have stopped and asked for their story. After all, they were there to share it... I'll bet you'd have had two new friends by the time you left. Some of my oldest friends I met at marches and sit-ins in the '60s and '70s.

I wrote the post about my best friend having a - radio show. sm

You touched on something that I didn't include in my post.  My friend told me that of these four people, there were way different political views among them.  Not all liberals.  Not all conservatives.  Just a mixture of intelligent people who want their country back.

I "liked" your post a lot!!  Thanks for posting.  Everyone's viewpoint is different (except for those who automatically bash them when they hear about them, having absolutely NO  idea what they're about or what they're trying to do.

I doubt very seriously that everyone who comes on this board is a member of the top 1% in this country, and that makes me wonder just WHY they dislike people who are trying to help all but the top 1%.

Icky, that was a white supremacist web site. - I'm gonna have to scrub my hard drive.

Sort of tells you what kind of people who are against OWS, huh?

I ran a full anti-virus check, just to be sure. - Now if I could just wash my eyes!

My best friend does a radio show from midnight to 4:00 a.m. on Saturday/Sunday morning, and this past Saturday, a few people from "Occupy Fort Collins" just showed up at the station, and he was able to do an hour-long interview with them, with even some call-ins (which usually doesn't happen).

He invited them back next week, and I'm thinking of going to the station with him (and my dog) so I can meet some of these people.  My friend told me that one of them in particular, about mid thirties, and IS living in his car.  He has two degrees:  one in Psychology and one in Music.  And he can't find a job.  There are many people who are only one paycheck away from utter ruin, and they're usually the ones who want to make fun and/or denigrate this group that does represent 99% of the people.

I was very impressed with what he told me (plus I'm going to listen to the entire interview that he saved on a flash drive), and I'd really like to meet these people because I do admire them.  You know, it's a real treat these days to find people to admire, and there are certainly none from either party out there right now.

But you just go ahead and be sarcastic, make fun of the "Occupiers," even if you DO become one of them someday.  Karma, baby, karma.
