How President Obama Could Lose My Support

Posted: Apr 13, 2011

I have no political heroes. None! I don't see President Obama as a hero. I don't see him as a villain. I think he's done some things well and others not so well.

However, his speech will determine for me whether I will support him or not. There is not one person running on the other side that I would tolerate so far, so I'm sure hoping he doesn't lose me. LOL.

How can he lose me? If he caves in to the people who want to take my Medicare and/or social security from me, he's lost me. If he can't bring in intelligent people who can problem solve and find ways to bring fairness back to the revenue system (taxes) so that everyone pays their fair share, he loses me.

I realize that our country depends on our only source of revenue: Taxes.

I just don't want the Middle Class to be the only one paying their fair share.

I will be listening carefully to hear what President Obama has to say.

;

I don\'t believe a word he says anymore. - I listened to him the

first time around. Biggest mistake I ever made and one I will not be making again.

I do believe he wants to raise taxes, though. Obama - is all about class warfare -sickening!nm

[ In Reply To ..]
There are some things that aren't worthy of uniting over, and despising the poor, helpless, disabled, and elderly would be one of those things. I WILL NOT unite against those people. Our country is better than that.
You took the words out of my mouth. - Thank you. nm

ALL Politicians LIE, and you're letting a SPEECH - PoliticallySavvy

[ In Reply To ..]
It's astounding to me that anyone would be naive enough to lend credence to what ANY politician says during a speech, especially during an election campaign!

Then again, you DID say that you're an Obama supporter. That says it all right there.

I believe it's legal and honorable to support any party or candidate we wish in this country - Proud American

The insults to anyone who doesn't vote like you do are not very helpful.

I think you just pushed me back in President Obama's corner - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
How rude! Now I remember why I left the Republican party, the meanness factor.

Don't believe you were ever out of his corner... - not the OP...just sayin.

[ In Reply To ..]
and if you think it is the Republicans who are mean, you haven't read much on this board....LOL. Holey mackerel, the left have been ridiculing, name calling, drive-by insult posts with nothing to offer BUT insults...far fewer insults from the right. Just to be fair.

There are rude people in all parties. - sm

Don't take one comment and judge the rest of us by it.

I think my biggest problem with Obama is his lack of keeping his campaign promises from his first presential run. I think as a potential voter that would make me uneasy and not want to vote for any politician like that...but that is my person opinion.

I do agree that you cannot solely go by what is promised....especially with an election around the corner. Actions speak a lot louder than words.

If I were you, not only would I carefully listen to his speeches, but I would also do a lot of research. Look for contradictions in what he has said in past speeches and what he ended up doing, etc.

The bottom line is...are you happy with Obama? Only you can make that decision.

Me...personally....I will not be voting for him come 2012..but I didn't vote for him in 2008 either. But that is my opinion and I'm entitled to it....as are you.

Don't let people with opposing viewpoints get your down.
What can he do with the House and Senate fillibuster - I don't think it is his fault.
[ In Reply To ..]
I plan to vote against any and all t-party republicans. I have voted for republicans in the past, but they never said they were going to go this far. Never again.
Well, even if Obama loses me, I know I cannot vote for Republicans - because they lost me earlier big time and permanen
[ In Reply To ..]
The Republicans lost me big time and permanently. If Obama loses me because he messes with my retirement plans, healthcare (Medicare) and social security, I'm not sure what I will do other than stick with the lesser of the two negatives knowing that the Democrats will fight to get fairness back into the picture over time.
How you can say that in the face of them - raiding the Social Security
[ In Reply To ..]
is beyond me. Which, by the way, they have never fixed. Just one of the many reasons I will vote a straight Republican ticket for the second time in my entire life. Any part that can ignore a 14 trillion dollar deficit like it did not exist and propose a budget of of 1.3 trillion...I want NO part of. But hey...I guess you choose to ignore the deficit too as long as the entitlements, whether they are working or not, just keep on keepin' on.

sigh.
fairness? - dnh
[ In Reply To ..]
The Democrats will fight to get the fairness back? Kidding, right? There is nothing fair about them raiding social security and not putting it back and nothing fair about the way the deficit has risen under them and nothing fair about their multitude of entitlement programs that allow people to live off the government - and all because they want to win the votes. No, I am not heartless. I favor providing assistance to those who truly need it, but do not even try to tell me that this country doesn't have a whole lot of freeloaders living off those programs, and the Dems court them instead of encouraging responsibility. Puhleez - fair?
And me just the opposite. Never a Democrat, - NEVER again. nm

speech - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is probably just a sales pitch for more taxes, AKA, a campaign speech.

Here's how I see the basic difference in how the 2 parties think:

The left wants to raise revenue/invest (tax) to manage the deficit and grow a larger government.

The right wants to cut spending to lower the deficit and make a smaller government.

They will never agree and we can only hope there is some kind of leadership in order to make a compromise. I'm not seeing it yet. This president is no uniter. He has divided this country in a way I have never seen in my lifetime.

You couldn't be less united than we were under Bush - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
nm

No, its much worse now... more divided than ever. - AND hurting more than ever.nm

[ In Reply To ..]
nm
I very strongly disagree - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
There are always disagreements between members of the parties. The divisions between those who wanted to go to war and those who didn't think we needed to go into Iraq in addition to Afhghanistan, etc., were huge! It was a matter of life and death.

What I'm seeing is Obama's plan is to bring in more revenue and cut some spending - but cutting spending differently

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm all for the bringing in more revenue part, with an intelligent look at changing taxes fairly. I'm also very happy about the idea of spending cuts, as long as it doesn't come out of Medicare and social security, or Medicaid. Our country cares about people, and those areas don't need to be messed with.

Well, you and I might care about people, but the - Republicans certainly don't.nm

compassion - dnh
[ In Reply To ..]
If republicans do not have compassion for others, why then do they VOLUNTARILY contribute more than democrats to charities? Check the stats on that and see who shows compassion? Republicans are trying to save the economy for all Americans, not screw over half of them in favor of others.

Fair share? The rich pay MUCH MUCH more than - their "fair share" now, so just how much

[ In Reply To ..]
should they contribute, huh? You have no idea what fair share is, apparently, or you just want to take take take from someone who earned more than you. The USA does not lead by example anymore.. and Obama is a socialist.. harsh word? The truth.. SOCIALIST. and embarrassment, putting the country further in the toilet with every plan.

No, they don't. Fair will be shared sacrifice - Little guys give till we hurt and the rich don't

[ In Reply To ..]
We in the middle class are giving until it hurts. It sometimes means that we do without the necessities. The rich never miss a meal because of the amount or percentage of taxes they pay (or avoid paying). They are not paying their fair share for the most part. Some are, but many are not.

Notice I'm not name-calling. I'm able to communicate without using bad language, tacky vocabulary, or name-calling.

It is a fact that the top 5% of wage earners - in this country pay 41%

[ In Reply To ..]
of all personal taxes paid into the treasury. The OTHER 95% pay 49%. Now you TELL me if the top 5% paying almost half of all taxes still isn't enough.

If you think that is not fair, then your fairness meter is, with all due respect, WONKY.
Right. I would be ashamed stating pay MORE. Its - totally out of proportion now. nm

I haven't paid federal taxes in over 10 years, thanks to a $10,000 adoption credit and other credits.

I always amazed that I get money in February from the IRS, which I call my welfare payment. There are thousands of people like me - getting "refunds" into a system we didn't pay. The money has got to come from somewhere.

I thought it was a re-run of another speech, so now I'll have to read about it.

What I did hear was the same old, same old, tax the rich spiel that he used in his first campaign. Sheesh! I think he definitely needs a new speech writer.

He's also still trying to divide the country. Will he ever learn?

I don't think that's true. We wll have to agree to disagree - nm
