So, I read on a friend's private conservative blog elsewhere that James O'Keefe, a conservative documentary filmmaker, had just "caught red-handed" some college administrators at a university in Florida who were "encouraging and supporting" ISIS supporters. I like my friend, but, erm, I don't always agree with his politics and I'm not so sure his assertion is actually the case on this one. In fact, the blog author wrote his post based on his assumption on a news article such as this one, not having watched the video himself. Here's a similar article:
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article16934699.html
In the video, an honor-roll student interviews varying university administrators about starting an ISIS support club. (She is NOT really trying to start an ISIS support club, btw, she is finding out what would happen if she tried, on video. )
I found the video myself on YouTube and it's here and below, if I can get it to attach in the link portion, having trouble with that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=165&v=R0n2mgFlUi4
After watching some very misleading clips in the beginning, I watched the whole video, but I did have a few interruptions, so if I missed something, feel free to point it out.
Though full interviews are never shown, I still don't see "encouragement"?
In fact, tone and body language are very important, which you'll never get from reading a media article. In fact, consider watching it again with the sound down to see it.
Because what I see are very clearly visibly uncomfortable people, trying to mask it and still abide by PC law for religious freedom in private clubs and treat her fairly to avoid religious discrimination lawsuit.
In fact, one person even looks a little angry, despite what's coming out of his mouth. The first man is setting his jaw when he says, "Barry University's name is nowhere on it and it's made clear it's a private club?"
(As an aside, yes, har-har-har, we all get the irony, Barry University, several jokes have already been made about that, but this university is Catholic, conservative, and has been around a while and has no affiliation with Obama whatsoever).
Another man tries to discourage her by using logic, "This would cost thousands of dollars of support, you realize that,."
Notice on the tag line on this video says that "school officials encourage her to change the name" when that is not accurate. She OFFERS the idea of changing the name to gain more members and support and social approval, and they tell her if she wants members of her club, that might be a good idea if she's billing this as a "humanitarian club", as she said, rather than terrorist support. The administrator offered she might consider "Middle East" (if she just wants to just send them things like flashlights and support for widows, as she claims.)
In fact, this was billed as the most damaging piece of evidence, but before she said it, said, "You do realize many countries are claiming terrorist activity by ISIS, right?"
The student interviewer is clearly trying to bait and entrap people, who to me, are clearly just shocked they are even being asked and sense something is off, look at her incredulously, and offer her minimal assistance to avoid discrimination.
I mean, someone could come in and say, "I want to start an 'I Love Charles Manson' private club and the university has to treat them the same as anyone else and grant it if they want state or federal fund contribution or accreditation for private universities.
IMO, these poor people are being vilified for just trying to do their jobs and treat her fairly to avoid the PC police and discrimination lawsuit, despite their personal feelings on the issue, and the university is now in hot water over it?
Why would this filmmaker vilify these people and take down a Catholic university, who most likely ARE conservatives and therefore his "own people", in this way?
If he wanted to go after the PC police that allow terrorists protection under religious freedom in private clubs, go after it legislatively to change policy and law that protects them, but punishing the poor people like you and me, just trying to do their jobs and folllow the law, despite their personal ethics, that's just cutting off your nose to spite your face.
