Ninety-two percent of Americans favor background checks for all potential gun buyers, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll. – 9 in 10 back universal gun background checks

IF YOU want to know what a minority looks like, how lonely the N.R.A. is on their extremist stance on gun safety, the latest CBS/New York Times polllays it out for you.

Support for universal background checks went across party lines: 89 percent of Republicans and 93 percent of Democrats and independents were in favor, as well as 93 percent of gun households and 85 percent of those living in a household with a member of the National Rifle Association.

Seventy-four percent of Americans, meanwhile, said that more armed security guards would help prevent mass shootings in public places. Thirty-five percent said armed guards would help a lot in places like schools, movie theatres and malls, and another 39 percent said they would help some. One in four said they would not help.

The N.R.A. leadership and the right wing noise machine getting all the air time are a very small minority in this country.

People in this group now include many Republicans in the House, as well as Senator Rand Paul, who’s out on a limb on this issue in the Senate.

Will Americans allow the minority, who are backed by powerful interests with lots of money that finance campaigns, to win on gun safety and keep important new laws like universal background checks from becoming law? We’re about to find out."

As Rachel Maddow commented, "92% of Americans don't support anything. 92% of Americans don't like sunny days." :) But 92% of us want universal background checks for gun purchases.
