Just thought I'd share.

Posted: Jun 2, 2010

I am a conservative person and yet I understand the desire some have
to provide food, shelter, and health care for those less fortunate.
However, the problem arises when we have so many people who abuse
the system.  We have people who would rather collect unemployment or
a welfare check then work a menial job.  We have people who collect
gov't assistance and use this money to contribute to their addiction
to drugs and/or alcohol.  We have too many people desiring a handout
and if we try to support them all, our country will fall flat on its
face.  What happened to personal responsibility?  What happened to
being too proud to receive a handout?  We have turned into a country
of entitlement.  We have too many lazy people in this country who want
something for nothing.  Now our country wants to take the hard earned
money from those who actually worked for that money to support those
who are too lazy to do for themselves.  This is where I have a problem.
Why are we punishing those who got an education, worked hard, and
earned their money?  People who strived for the American dream and
achieved it will be penalized for their success and hard work while
others too lazy to even work a full day of work will receive a gov't
check for doing nothing.  This doesn't help anyone.  It enables
moochers to continue to be moochers. We could tax the rich and the
middle class and still not have enough money to provide for everyone.
Take a good look America.  We are going bankrupt.  Our debt continues
to rise and yet we continue to spend money like it grows on trees.
Common sense folks...you cannot spend your way out of debt.  You keep
spending and the debt keeps rising and sooner or later you file
bankruptcy.  Our government is no exception to this rule.  You spend
beyond your means and you go under.  It is as simple as that.

There is nobody in office that inspires anyone to work hard and be proud. To me it appears that what this current administration is doing is giving out the handouts, which of course ensures they will be voted in again. The people in government have shown nothing that they care about the people of America, all they care about is being reelected and power.

Your post really hit home. I'm a single income family and I'm having to work more hours so I can make ends me. The more I work the more they tax me and it really makes me wonder why I'm being punished for doing the best I can. There are only so many other people I can support on my paycheck.

Until the current crowd stops the unnecessary spending and doesn't allow easy access to freebies for nothing it's only going to get worse. Really makes me want to quit working so I can get it for free. Over the past few days I cut off the news because it's only getting worse and worse. All I know is I've got to work so much and I see no future for me or my family. It's a very very sad situation our country is in. Only makes me realize the only thing to look forward to is 12/2012.

How about sending this in a letter to Washington? - Backwards Typist

Do you think they will listen? Nah, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I'm with you with what you say. I have to add: How come those that don't work, live in subsidized housing, recieve food stamps, and get free medical care drive new(er) cars while DH and I work our butt off, recieve no freebies and drive nothing newer than a 1998 car and a 1993 pickup...and the car is new only because our '93 died this year?

Our president has made it clear about what he thinks about people who oppose his administration. My letter would be filed in tray #13 aka the trash. The only hope I have is to encourage as many people as I can to vote come this November to get rid of the one party control in DC. After that, I will focus on getting Obama voted out come 2012.

So, who is doing all the spending? Not my state - lindawordlady

You said.... "Now our country wants to take the hard earned money from those who actually worked for that money to support those who are too lazy to do for themselves."

In what form do they plan to do this is my question. If by taxing, I need more information on how and when?

I am a single self-supporting person who makes about one-half of what I used to due to the piddly wages of VR. I cannot even afford health insurance, and even though I was offered it through my MT employer I had to decline it. Why you ask? I could do the premium of close to $200 a month, but could not do the $5000 deductible. Well, as luck would have it I ended up in the ER in April of this year with a kidney stone. With that ER bill, another followup CT scan at another facility and then 3 follow-ups with Urology I am looking at a $6000 bill. I cannot afford that on my wages. I passed a 5 mm kidney stone but find that I have a 9 mm kidney stone in the left kidney. It may stay there and it may not, but if it does and becomes obstructed then I will surgery and will be looking at over $50,000 for sure.

I am still recuperating from a MVA almost 2 years ago in which I lost my car and many physical problems. Just when I thought I could maybe save for a used car, now this... I am SO sick of the lazy people too that just expect handouts, but I would never want that kind of dismal life for myself.

Our governor in the state of MN has cut everything for the poorest of the poor here, including medical assistance and the like. My sister is one such victim of these overall budget cuts. She would like to work but she had been trying to get disability for 3 yrs, having been turned down now twice and still waiting. Yes, she is definitely disabled and the government has no sympathy for her. She lives on $203 a month with a little bit of food from EBT. I am sure they will cut that soon too.

We all have to face facts here, it's all partisan politics and nobody really cares about the average working person. Not much of a middle class anymore, just the same 'ole the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. I have no help that things will ever change, just being realistic. I am just plain sick of all the rhetoric and nobody really trying to work for us the people. Oh yes, we did elect one who wanted change and is/has been trying... but he is only the president; he can do nothing without all the bickering going on between both parties. Sorry, to be so long-winded about this, but I am just venting my own frustrations. Here at 62, I have nothing to look forward to and who would have thunk it 30 years ago. What a country eh!

I never said that there were people - Trigger Happy

who didn't deserve help. The reason our country cannot afford to assist those who are unfortunate and really do need help is because of the abuse and waste done by others. Your situation is very unfortunate and I'm sorry you find yourself in it. However, if we didn't have people receiving disability who can work and people receiving welfare checks because they don't want to work, we could possibly afford to assist people like yourself. I have no problem helping people who need it. However, I do have a problem with enabling moochers to continue to be moochers. There is definitely a distinct difference. Until we can differentiate between helping those that need it and enabling moochers who feel they are entitled....we cannot afford to pay for everyone getting gov't assistance.

If the system wasn't abused by dishonest folks, perhaps you and your sister would be receiving the help you need right now. When I say cut the wasteful spending, I mean cut gov't assistance to those wanting a handout. I'm not heartless and want gov't assistance cut out entirely because I do feel that there are those people in our country who are trying so hard and just need a hand up.

As for our president, it is my opinion that he wants gov't to run every sector in our country. Never forget that a gov't big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take it away.

The reason politicians want to provide for minorities and lower class folks is not because they are big hearted. It is merely because they know that the more dependent people are on gov't, the more gov't can control their lives and it also ensures them votes. Dangle free entitlement programs in front of moochers and they will vote for any idiot running for office.

As much as some politicians complain about rich folk, how many politicians are poor? They are the rich folk making a killing on salaries in office and out of office with health care that us lowly people can only dream of. Our country is in a mess because of the rich politicians in Washington who continue to get rich while making promises they never intend to keep to suckers like us who in turn keep voting them into office. You wanna blame rich folk for your situation, start with the rich politicians receiving sweetheart deals by rich CEOs at banks. It all boils down to a corrupt gov't system with rich politicians running the show.

I say we start cutting wasteful spending by cutting back on the salaries these politicians get in and out of office. The same politicians who voted to pass a health care system that they themselves refused to have for themselves and their families.

You want to punish rich people for their success, start by punishing politicians. The same people who vote themselves a raise when our country is hurting.

As much as you wanna blame rich business owners in this country, just keep in mind that poor folk don't create new jobs. Rich politicians don't create jobs by creating more entitlement programs so people don't have to work. Dependency breeds inability.

Time Share NightmareSep 08, 2012
My stepfather purchased a time share property many years ago.  I think he and my mom used it a total of three times. For years now he has been attempting to sell the time share.  Three years ago I went with him to meet with a representative who told my SF the property was now out of his name.  (After my SF gave him a check that day for $4,000.)   It never happened.  Two and one-half years ago I took a phone call up at the house when he was not home.  ...

Share Pea Soup RecipesOct 13, 2014
I'd like to share my pea soup recipe, and would like other ideas as well. I don't measure things, so just use your own judgment, likes/dislikes. Use a very heavy pot like an enamel pot or dutch oven. First, I take some olive oil, heat it, then sautee up some chopped garlic, onions, celery and carrots. I remove them from the pan when they're done, add a little more olive oil, then brown up a ham steak really well. Let the bottom of the pot get brown. (You can cube the ham steak ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...
