Have to share after having the best nights sleep I have had in years ... (sm)

Posted: Oct 4, 2010

Hubby and I bought a new mattress over the weekend, it is a Serta Memory Foam mattress.  We actually purchased this at Big Lots of all places, regular $1000.00 and we paid $400.00.  I have had problems with my back for the last several years and generally toss, turn and wake up several times during the night, to the point of finally giving up, getting up and getting on the sofa.  Last night I was extremely skeptical, went to bed and when I laid down on the mattress I felt like I was laying on a firm sponge.  However, I do not remember very much after that.  I did not wake up AT ALL, when the alarm went off this morning I did not want to get out of my bed and when I did I had NO back pain.  I was a little "sore" in places, however, after doing my research I found that this does happen for about the first week after transitioning over to these types of mattresses.  I have to say that after one night I am extremely pleased and cannot wait to go to bed tonight!  LOL

My mom and step-dad recently bought and my mom went from being a light sleeper that woke up at every little nose or movement by her husband to sleeping so deep, she slept through a tornado that took out a couple of their trees!

Wish I could afford a new mattress! Maybe I'll check out my Big Lots! Thanks for the thought!

I got it a couple of years ago when I had inherited some money after my mom passed away, otherwise I never would have been able to afford it.

It's the best money I've ever spent in my life. Ever. Like you, I had a lot of back pain to the point where I would have to grab the headboard to try to turn over some days. That went away completely with the new mattress.

Good for you. That's pretty cool that you found it at Big Lots and for such a good deal. It makes it an even better mattress!

Thanks for posting this. My husband and I have been thinking of getting a memory foam by Tempur Pedic for a while now, but afraid that we would spend a lot of money we don't really have only to find out it is all hype and not really as advertised. We both have horrible backs and it would be nice not to grab the headboard anymore to turn over! I can't believe someone else has to do that too!! Thanks again.

what about the topper to put on your - mattress? sm

anyone try one of those? I have the same problem. I wake up every night a few times in the middle of the night so I can toss and turn to get comfortable. I love the firmness of my mattress for my back and was thinking about getting a topper. Thoughts?

Memory foam mattress topper - dln

I have a really old mattress but just can't afford to get a new one right now. I ended up buying a memory foam 1.5 inch mattress topper from Target about six months ago. I love it! The only downfall is it slides around a bit and in the morning I have to yank it back into place, but I have been sleeping wonderfully on it. I don't suffer from back pain, but I used to toss and turn, and this foam mattress topper completely took care of the tossing and turning! I love it and highly recommend it. The one I got definitely wasn't "top of the line." I think it was about 60 dollars or so. I have seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond, and they are SUPER expensive. I don't know if they would be any better, but I am 100% satisfied with the one I got! :)

A laltex foam mattress is also good.. - MT

We purchased a latex foam mattress years ago. It was great. This was before they were stocked in the store and we had to order it special which was about $1000. Best thing for my back ever. It comes in soft, medium, firm. We got the firm and they do not wear out. We unfortunately sold it when moved and regretted it. We bought another one later. I hear good things about the Memory foam, but I think for me it would be too hard to turn over in it, where as latex foam gives you more freedom to move around and turn over. But either one is 100%% improvement over the coiled spring mattresses...for me anyway.

Just Wanted To Share....Over The Years...Mar 04, 2013
I have been asked on many occasions if I could show people how to do what I do because "I know you make a ton of money".  Today, that comment is good for a never ending laugh!  I did want to share my two favorites.  Driving through the local Burger King, the gal that handed me my food asked me what I did for a living.  I love this part- I told her and she said, "oh, how nice".  When I gave her a little more detail, she said she was SURE she could do it.  Her mom wo ...

Had To Put My Cat Montgomery To SleepMay 13, 2011
Right now i'm trying to escape intellectually but I cried hysterically when I took him in to get euthanized.  He has been through a lot with me, an awesome cat, even knew how to play fetch.  He stopped eating a couple days ago and started breathing heavily this morning with brownish drool.  He is usually very affectionate but wanted to be off by himself and was not responding, even to tuna and I have a way to say his name that makes him perk up and he would not even resp ...

Sleep-eating? Feb 28, 2011
Okay, so my husband has been eating in his sleep.  Sometimes he remembers doing it, and sometimes he doesn’t.  And he eats really weird things.  For a while there, he would drink pancake syrup right out of the bottle multiple times a week.  Last night, he “woke up” standing over the kitchen sink, eating a plate full of sour cream.  Could his sleeping pills be causing this?  ...

Had To Put Our Beloved Golden To Sleep This Morning.May 11, 2011
Our golden retriever, Samson, was 12-1/2 years old.  He's meant so much to our family.  They discovered a tumor a year ago that we chose not to explore because he had renal failure and the anesthesia could have killed him.  Evidently it metastasized to his brain and possibly his spine, and a few days ago he lost the use of his hind legs.  Last night he started having seizures.  He went from 94 to about 72 pounds in the last year.  We took him to the vet ER ...

Share Pea Soup RecipesOct 13, 2014
I'd like to share my pea soup recipe, and would like other ideas as well. I don't measure things, so just use your own judgment, likes/dislikes. Use a very heavy pot like an enamel pot or dutch oven. First, I take some olive oil, heat it, then sautee up some chopped garlic, onions, celery and carrots. I remove them from the pan when they're done, add a little more olive oil, then brown up a ham steak really well. Let the bottom of the pot get brown. (You can cube the ham steak ...

Share Finger FoodsNov 14, 2015
Holidays are coming. Here are some of my favorite, easy-to-make finger foods. No utensils needed by the "eatee," LOL. Probably can even get away with just a cocktail napkin instead of a plate Roll-ups: Get plain or flavored soft tortillas. Spread a little mustard on it, then place a piece of ham (or turkey), lettuce and cheese--I use Swiss or Provolone--and roll up and cut into pinwheels. I put the lettuce in between the cold cuts and the cheese. It makes them less slippery and messy. These a ...
