Happy Christmas to friends and foes

Posted: Dec 24, 2009

For the progressives, we have the health care - hey, it's a start.  We have a lovely family in the WH. Things are lookin' up.  To the loyal opposition - We may disagree and bicker, but the board would not be complete without ya.  Blessings to all.

;

What kind of a holiday greeting is that? This was very insulting - anon

To the loyal opposition - "but the board would not be complete without ya"???????

Excuse me, but this is not your board or a board just for progressives. This is a board for everyone to speak their opinions. We have as much right to be here. Again it's not "your" board to tell us it wouldn't be complete without us.

Yeah, you may have health care. Whether that is good or not I don't know anymore. They have changed this and that and this and that in the bill so much, I don't know what is in there and what is not. I hope the government run health care plan is not. It will be the end of our economy and country, but the sleezy congress? I don't put anything past them. All I know is if the democrats have passed something that means that it is not good for our country.

Yes, I think the Obama kids are lovely. The parents? Well that's another story. My blood pressure rises when I think what those two are doing to our country. I've never seen such a disgusting display of opulence before. Michelle and Barack are certainly no "lovely couple" when you know what their personalities are and what their plans are.

But I will agree with you that things are lookin' up. Election of 2010 is right around the corner and the country is so fed up with what is going on in DC that it most definitely will be a landslide for the republicans and independents. Even the top democratic strategists have said that.

And you put "blessings to all" at the end of your message? Nothing in your message would fit in the same category as the word "Blessings".

ahh - there's one in every family - poxyjade

including a cyber family, I guess. have a glass of punch, Aunt Tillie, and god bless us everyone!

Another insult - wouldn't expect any less - anon

NO MESSAGE!!!

Uh, I don' t think it was intended to be insulting. - Colleen

[ In Reply To ..]
I think the poster was just saying Merry Christmas to everyone even though we don't agree, and a word of encouragment to the Progressives. I don't think the intention was to "insult" anyone.

Merry Christmas, BTW.

Hey Colleen thx for the response, but it was indeed insulting - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Saying in the post "the board would not be complete without ya" You don't think that's an insult? Then when told it's an insult they reply back with "there's one in every family"???????

I'm sorry, but it was not only an insult, but then another insulting reply. Didn't say she/he is sorry for offending, no, just continued on with another insult.

This board is not any one groups board. Everyone posts here, so it was not her/his board to tell us it "wouldn't be complete without us".

This was not a message to have a happy holidays to all the posters on the board. It was a message to cut down the people who don't agree with the progressives...you know the people he/she refers to a "ya".

Sorry...I think the message was intended exactly as an insult.

Merry Christmas to you too (that is meant with sincerity). I hope you and your family have a good holiday.
Nope, I'm not overreacting..... - anon

different moniker. Since the ones I had always used were being duplicated by other people I went to anon.

So if anyone is reading this - I did not answer myself with a psychotic reply.
LOL! I am glad you said that. I was wondering - Colleen

The Happy Holidays Vs. Merry Christmas DealDec 06, 2011
Ok, I'm a Christian. I'm not saying I'm perfect, quite the opposite. That being said, I am ok with "Happy Holidays" at this time of year. Why? Because we're in the season where there are several holidays!!!! I'm not offended if someone says that to me, matter of fact, I'm pleased because they said something nice. I was reading on Facebook the other day a "Don't take Christ out of Christmas" post from a Christian friend of mine and it sounded so dark a ...

So.....What's On Your Christmas Table? SmDec 12, 2011
Or your Hanukkah table or however you choose to celebrate the season?  I'm not here to split hairs on what we call it.  I just thought it would be interesting to share some of our favorite foods of the season....maybe a recipe or two. Texas Pecan Cake (courtesy of my mom) makes a regular appearance on our table.  We don't like fruitcake in our house, but this is the Texas version, chock full of pecans and raisins.  Peanut Butter Balls, also known as Buckeyes, are ...

The Christmas FruitcakeDec 08, 2011
I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those who like fruitcake and those who don't; my son tells me I am wrong, there are three kinds of people in this world, those who are good at math and those who are not. I like fruitcake, I admit it, I'm not ashamed to say so -- so last night I bought a little itty-bitty $3.99 fruitcake to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with a cup of herbal tea and a small slice after I finish work.  My son, on the other hand, says "Ug ...

My First Lonely Christmas SmDec 24, 2009
I know I am better off than many....but this is my first Christmas since my divorce.  My family lives in Florida.  One family member lives near but is very sick and can't come tomorrow.  My children have been gone all day to the celebrations that I have done with my ex-husband's family for the last 20 Christmases.  I need to put on some  Christmas music and finish wrapping my children's gifts I guess.  I just feel so sad today :( ...

Christmas GiftsDec 02, 2011
Need advice. We have friends with a 10 YO and an 8 YO.  This may sound silly - but I feel that our friendship has evolved to that of us going to visit them, us sending gifts for holidays, us emailing and calling them.  We always get lovely thank you notes, but they live two hours away and they haven't been to our house in about five years and we haven't been to theirs in 2 years (husband refuses to go over there until they come here)!  .  Am I beating an old re ...

Christmas ServiceDec 25, 2013
I just wanted to share this with everyone as I think it is so awesome. My church had a Christmas Eve service last night. We sang carols, the old ones. Now my church is small and our choir during the year has at best 20 members. A lot of people came in for the holidays to spend with their families and some of them joined our choir for the service which raised it up to about 30 members, more or less. Well the main hymn, anthem or whatever was the Halleuia (?) chorus from Handel's messiah ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...

Christmas Gatherings, How Would You Feel?Dec 16, 2009
Every year since my 2000 wedding have spent Christmas Day with hubs family (have daughter by another marriage, grown and out of the home). My SIL (hubby's brother's wife) and I have exchanged the dinners since the other participants really too old (70s and 80s) to host everyone, quite an ordeal to arrange for say about 15 people. I hosted dinner in 2007 and asked last year by SIL to host again and she would do this year. Have heard nothing about dinner until yesterday (10 days prior to ...

When Is The Last Time You Had A WHITE CHRISTMAS?Dec 18, 2009

Least Favorite Christmas Music?Dec 02, 2011
I have to admit I can't stand the "Christmas Shoes" song.  I have a high tolerance for schmalz, but that's over the top for me.  I change the radio station when that comes on.    I'm sorta on the fence about "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas".  It's kind of cute, but it has the disadvantage of sticking in my head and I end up singing it the rest of the day! Anyone else? ...

Obama's NEW CHRISTMAS TREE TAXNov 08, 2011
This is beyond the pale in its audicity -- and political STUPIDITY.  With everyone out of work and/or broke, now only ~46 days before Christnmas, Obama imposes a 15-cent-per-tree tax for sellers of over 500 trees to pay.  OF COURSE, LIKE ALL SUCH TAXES, this will be passed on to the CONSUMERS, resulting in HIGHER PRICES.  What an unbelievably STUPID move poitically -- this one will go down in the history books.  Everyone is already calling him "Grinch." ...
