Obama's NEW CHRISTMAS TREE TAX

Posted: Nov 8, 2011

This is beyond the pale in its audicity -- and political STUPIDITY.

With everyone out of work and/or broke, now only ~46 days before Christnmas, Obama imposes a 15-cent-per-tree tax for sellers of over 500 trees to pay.  OF COURSE, LIKE ALL SUCH TAXES, this will be passed on to the CONSUMERS, resulting in HIGHER PRICES.

What an unbelievably STUPID move poitically -- this one will go down in the history books.  Everyone is already calling him "Grinch."

Now watch and laugh as all the Obama supporters attempt somersaults trying to justify this.  LMAO!

;

A very funny post, to be sure - ever heard of the Tourism Board?

Or "Pork, the Other White Meat?" Are you not aware that industries often have organizations that promote and research their product? Businesses pay dues to the Chamber of Commerce. Good grief.

CoC dues are NOT TAXES. - Unbelievable!

Do you know the definition of a TAX? Do you know the difference between a TAX and a VOLUNTARY FEE/MEMBERSHIP DUE?

Apparently not.

This was actually begun under Bush but has not - mthead

been driven by either president; rather, it is an idea spawned by the Christmas tree growers themselves to fund research into what is driving the erosion of the real trees' share of the market. Moreover, this is not an attack on Christians as the Christmas tree has its roots in paganism. But thanks for putting that out there; now I know where the next loony idea will come from within my loony-tunes Faux News-watching family and am now better prepared to dispel, yet again, another nonsensical idea they got from the right-wing propaganda machine that they call "news." I appreciate your help.

Yes, we need RESEARCH into Christmas Trees! - Realist

[ In Reply To ..]
That's what this coutnry REALLY NEEDS! Not JOBS. No, we need RESEARCH INTO CHRISTMAS TREES and a NEW FEDERAL AGENCY to oversee it. (And more NEW TAXES to drive the NEW BUREACRACY.) And, of course, we need a NEW CHRISTMAS TREE CZAR (from CAESAR) to manage it too.

Leave it to you double-digit-IQ, brainwashed libs to not see how stupid and WASTEFUL this is.

I admire your awesomeness and triple-digit - IQ-oh smart one

[ In Reply To ..]
so what's with the RIDICULOUS post??

On an MT BOARD???

Shouldn't your GIANT BRAIN be doing something more USEFUL than slumming it here with us UNEDJAMACTED folks????

And what's with the CZAR nonsense?????

Hilarious.

Not that your snarky post deserves a reply - mthead

but here goes: I went to the christmastrees.org website. They spell it out there for all to see, even you smart people like yourself. The growers have been concerned b/c they are losing market share to artificial trees and want to retain their place in the market. In order to fund research and a PR campaign ala "got milk" and "the other white meat" they are asking each GROWER to pitch in 15 cents per tree. Smaller growers will be exempt if they choose. The people overseeing the funds and funding the research are the christmas tree growers themselves. And once again, if you have to bring politics into it, this idea arose during the Bush administration but STILL has nothing to do with presidential politics. But believe what you will. I was only trying to put the facts out there.

Since you're bringing jobs into this discussion - mthead

consider that perhaps if the growers could find a way to increase their market share (in decline since the advent of pre-lit Chinese-made trees) they may be able to put a few more AMERICANS back to work. We get our trees from local farms every year and these places are a beehive of activity. They are largely seasonal jobs, to be sure, and probably don't pay all that well, but they feed AMERICAN WORKERS' families for the season.

Far be it for me to inject a little reality - into your bias

[ In Reply To ..]
This isn't an Obama "thang" but those facts won't really matter to you will they?

Obama WITHDRAWS NEW CHRISTMAS TREE TAX - Unbelievable!

Amidst a huge NEGATIVE reaction, the Obama administration wised up and has postponed the new Christmas Tree Tax.

Whoever proposed it in the first place should be CANNED for not recognizing that it was political suicide.

Well, Obama is "smart" with no common sense. The - whole administration has that problem.nm

The Tree Outside My WindowOct 31, 2013
My desk faces a window that looks out on a huge tree in my front yard.  It's a big beautiful tree that shades the yard and helps keep my office cool in the summer and blocks the sun from hitting my eyes.  Last week the tree was still green.  Every morning this week as I sit down at my desk and open the blind I'm greeted by a brand new picture as the leaves are turning first bright yellow and now going into orange.  When the wind picks up I get to see a dazzling show ...

So.....What's On Your Christmas Table? SmDec 12, 2011
Or your Hanukkah table or however you choose to celebrate the season?  I'm not here to split hairs on what we call it.  I just thought it would be interesting to share some of our favorite foods of the season....maybe a recipe or two. Texas Pecan Cake (courtesy of my mom) makes a regular appearance on our table.  We don't like fruitcake in our house, but this is the Texas version, chock full of pecans and raisins.  Peanut Butter Balls, also known as Buckeyes, are ...

The Christmas FruitcakeDec 08, 2011
I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those who like fruitcake and those who don't; my son tells me I am wrong, there are three kinds of people in this world, those who are good at math and those who are not. I like fruitcake, I admit it, I'm not ashamed to say so -- so last night I bought a little itty-bitty $3.99 fruitcake to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with a cup of herbal tea and a small slice after I finish work.  My son, on the other hand, says "Ug ...

Christmas ServiceDec 25, 2013
I just wanted to share this with everyone as I think it is so awesome. My church had a Christmas Eve service last night. We sang carols, the old ones. Now my church is small and our choir during the year has at best 20 members. A lot of people came in for the holidays to spend with their families and some of them joined our choir for the service which raised it up to about 30 members, more or less. Well the main hymn, anthem or whatever was the Halleuia (?) chorus from Handel's messiah ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...

Christmas Gatherings, How Would You Feel?Dec 16, 2009
Every year since my 2000 wedding have spent Christmas Day with hubs family (have daughter by another marriage, grown and out of the home). My SIL (hubby's brother's wife) and I have exchanged the dinners since the other participants really too old (70s and 80s) to host everyone, quite an ordeal to arrange for say about 15 people. I hosted dinner in 2007 and asked last year by SIL to host again and she would do this year. Have heard nothing about dinner until yesterday (10 days prior to ...
