Governor Perry has no say in federal matters. - sm

This is the federal government's responsibility. Perry cannot undermine the feds. His plan or desire or whatever means nothing here.
Wrong again. States DO have rights, you know? - sm

Last week, Governor Perry announced the creation of the Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response, aimed at assessing and enhancing the state's existing capabilities to prepare for and respond to infectious disease, including the Ebola virus. The task force, made up of experts from around Texas, will develop a strategic emergency management plan for incident command teams and their partners at the state and local levels of government. Governor Perry has also called on the federal government to implement enhanced screenings of travelers coming into the United States.
Then he left the country.

I see this as a national issue. I think most intelligent people would agree with me.
It is unfortunate that this has occurred anywhere, but it could be in any of our 50 states. What then? Chide Governor Perry for leaving the country? I think not. Get a grip and see the big picture.
Continue on with your rants, but I'm done here.

I've noticed your MO is to start a conversation, then when you're challenged you say something snarky and act like you're above it all. Hit and run. Again, your agenda is showing.
No agenda. Just don't see the point in continuing to argue if we disagree. - No need to insult me.

Of course you have an agenda, you show it in multiple posts EVERY day. Talk about insults, you insult our President and every democrat within reach on a daily basis. You insult anyone who responds with an opposing view, or play the "who me?" card. Not sure if you're the sm who uses the "bozo" insult ALL THE TIME, but if you are, well, nuff said. Even if you are, bet you won't admit to it.

All you have to do is follow the thread to - know it's the same person!

Seriously?! You think someone else randomly jumped in and said "no need to insult me?" Follow the thread!

BTW, "sm" is not one person. It's what people type. It means "see message." Also, "nm" means no message.

You're not arguing because your argument is weak, extremely weak. - sm

What part is confusing? When Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey, it obviously wouldn't have bothered Texans if Governor Perry had jetted off to Europe shortly thereafter, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it would have at least ruffled a few feathers in New Jersey if Governor Christie had given a press conference to announce the creation of the New Jersey Task Force on Natural Disaster Preparedness and Response and then jetted off to Europe.
Okay. Problem solved. As I type this, it's now being reported that Governor Perry has just decided to cut his trip short and come back to handle the situation.
I'm in Dallas, and it matters to me regardless of whether you're fine with it or not. People are whining for a ban on travel that affects me, and I would darn well like to have His Governorship get his bony rear end back to Texas to defend my constitutional rights whether it meets with your approval or not.
The feds can't come in and take over the hospitals. You would be in an uproar over that. We can't stop all air traffic into the country, however that might appeal to you.
What else do you want him to do that isn't already being done?
You would have to stop all flights into the US - and that would never take place
[ In Reply To ..]
You can't just ban the flights from Africa. Thomas Duncan, if I remember reading correctly, came in on a flight from Brussels. You want to ban all flights? Let's just shut down major commerce while we're at it. Don't forget about shutting down the sea ports as well.
Let's not apply any sense of logic or reality to this situation.

There would have been a vaccine in use in Africa and the outbreak would have had little consequence.
Still, we need to contend with the likelihood that we could have, and should have been doing more to combat the Ebola virus long before this most recent outbreak.
Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health cites a stagnation is financial support:
“NIH has been working on Ebola vaccines since 2001. It’s not like we suddenly woke up and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, we should have something ready here.’ Frankly, if we had not gone through our 10-year slide in research support, we probably would have had a vaccine in time for this that would’ve gone through clinical trials and would have been ready.”'

A Little Bit Of HistoryApr 14, 2011 After World War II ended, the debt limit was reduced to $275 billion. Because the Korean War was mostly financed by higher taxes rather than by increased debt, the limit remained at $275 billion until 1954. After 1954, the debt limit was reduced twice and increased seven times, until March 1962 when it again reached $300 billion, its level at the end of World War II.
