Deja vu all over again: 1965 and Medicare brawl.

Posted: Jun 29, 2012

Here we are almost 50 years later and Medicare is a normal fact of life for all citizens over 65, rich and poor alike.  The naysayers were there back then too.  It just never got as far as the Supreme Court.

Wrong as usual - Not FORCED on people

like Obamacare. My father carried BS/BC without Medicare until his death.

That is too bad about your father not taking advantage - oldtimer

of something his paid into while working since 1965, as we all do with every paycheck. Better check the Medicare laws. If possible, Medicare recipients also should have a supplemental policy to cover the things that Medicare does not pay for. Medicare is not a freeby. I pay almost $300 a month for full coverage, along with a yearly co-pay.

To Oldtimer - He had an excellent

insurance policy that was work related and paid for by the employer(not the Medicare), which far surpassed the Medicare coverage. Since he had a very serious heart condition, the other policy was far superior to Medicare in regards to coverage. Too bad that is seldom the case anymore and likely to be a thing of the past sooner than laer. I am very aware of the laws, thank you.

Yes, "forced" on everyone via payroll taxes since 1965 which pays - for Medicare part A. nm

By 2014, any employee can expect to receive an "updated" 1040 with deductions for federal, social security, medicare, and ACA.

New line on 1040 on 2014 is for qualified individuals to - claim a new TAX CREDIT
[ In Reply To ..]
provided in ACA to help offset the cost of health insurance premiums.

"Starting in 2014, individuals and families can take a new premium tax credit to help them afford health insurance coverage purchased through an Affordable Insurance Exchange. Exchanges will operate in every state and the District of Columbia. The premium tax credit is refundable so taxpayers who have little or no income tax liability can still benefit. The credit also can be paid in advance to a taxpayer’s insurance company to help cover the cost of premiums. On May 18, 2012, the IRS issued final regulations which provide guidance for individuals who enroll in qualified health plans through Exchanges and claim the premium tax credit, and for Exchanges that make qualified health plans available to individuals and employers."

Anybody out there have a problem with claiming a generous new tax CREDIT? If so, you could always opt out (just like governors in states of denial), refuse to claim it and tell Obama to "take this tax credit and shove it." It's entirely up to you.

Another Govt-run fiasco - going bankrupt as we speak

[ In Reply To ..]
yeah...real efficient, just like t gov't run post office, gov't run food stamps, gov't run Medicaid and let us not forget gov't involvement in
green energy:
1. Abound - got 70-mill taxpayer loans (bankrupt)
2. Solyndra - Got 400+-million taxpayer loan (belly up)
3. Beacon Power (bankrupt)
4. Ener1 (bankrupt)
5. A123 (massive layoffs)
6. Fisker Auto (massive layoffs)

Able to detect a pattern yet. No? Let me help you then. All had gov't involvement, most with taxpayer funding and taxpayers being placed on the hook by crack-smoking Obama. Better load your crack pipe and smoke 'em if you got 'em...you're in for a bumpy ride. yeah..Obamacare will go SOOOOO much better. Easier to handle if you are as high as Obama looks to be.
Hey: Why don't you talk about the real - reason for the post office fiasco? NM

OK, if you insist. GOP 2006 lame duck shock doctrine - turned USPS profits into fiscal ruins
[ In Reply To ..]
We all know the 75-year advanced pension health benefits funding drill by now. Unprecedented demands that no other government or private agency anywhere in the US is required to meet erased postal service profits in one fell swoop, placed them on the brink of bankruptcy and manufactured a crisis they could later exploit. This is not inefficient "govt mismanagement." It's deliberate partisan sabotage fueled by rabid GOP slash-and-burn union busting/privatization schemes.

The USPS is the only independent federal agency explicitly established under Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the US Constitution. Its evolution dates back to 1775 with the appointment of Benjamin Franklin as the first postmaster general. To say it's an American institution is an understatement. Proud tradition is more like it. Sadly, none of its time-honored traditions, nor considerations given to jobs loss or potential negative impacts on hundreds of millions of Americans, deters the GOP from their mission, nor do these commonly known truths propel them to own up. Typical.

By all means campaign to abolish MC and SS, 2 US programs - that enjoy megapopularity.

Pretty please. We all know that trying to fix it would be WAY too hard since that would involve commitment, compromise, bipartisan effort and serving public welfare (that dirty 4-letter word) over special interests. Just get rid of it. That'll teach those uppity socialist, commie, pinkos a thing or two about who's boss.

Can you say self-destruct?
What a snotty, uninformed, condescending reply - Why bother? Why not
[ In Reply To ..]
just have government keep their hands off the funds that TAXPAYERS paid for instead of using for Democrat's over spending? Yeah, you heard me. The little "uppity socialist, commie, pinkos" (your words) Democrats are the ones that voted to stick in their hand in those taxpayer pots...go look up the Congressional voting records. May that would "teach" you "a thing or two".

Six Must-reads From Palin Family Brawl Police ReportOct 10, 2014
Nobody is being charged in a drunken brawl that involved a white limousine full of members of Sarah Palin's family, police in Alaska said Thursday. But it sure sounds like things got out of hand, with the host of the September house party where it all happened saying the Palins got into a fight they "ended up losing." The Anchorage Police Department released a report that includes more than two pages of details about the brawl, which happened after the former GOP vice presidential nom ...

Deja VuOct 11, 2012
I had thought that someone might have educated Romney on what it is really like for the uninsured, but I guess not. He said the same thing last September and I can't believe he repeated it yesterday. Will he say the same thing next week? * * * * Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has pledged to repeal Obamacare, says that people without health insurance don't have to worry about dying as a result. "We don't have people that become ill, who die in their apar ...

Proof that the media in this country is dead.  They can worry about what Romney did or didn't do, bullied a boy, cut his hair, whatever.  It's not even clear and now the one who said he did it admitted he wasn't even there when the so-called incident occurred.  Then they have our not so esteemed President in his own words in his book that no one reads saying he spent most of his high school days in a daze due to drugs.  This is high school folks.  Also we ...

Why I Want My Medicare Left AloneMay 06, 2011
I don't know if any of you do this, but every time I forget something, like part of the alphabet or my phone number, I am terrified that I have the beginnings of Alzheimer's Disease. Expanding MedicareDec 08, 2009
Senate Democrats are discussing the idea of expanding Medicare by lowering the age at which the elderly could enter the government-run insurance program, Democratic sources on the Hill tell the Huffington Post. The proposal would lower the age of eligibility for Medicare from 65 to 55, though an age limit of 60 has also been suggested. Crucial details -- such as the timing of the implementation of such a reform -- were not provided due to the sensitivity and ongoing nature of the deliberations. A ...

CBO: MEDICARE FIX THROWS HCR IN THE REDMar 20, 2010
The CBO has now said that the "Medicare Fix", which the Democrats are trying to pass separate from the HCR bill, throws their scheme into the red, eating up all of the claimed $200 billion in deficit reduction and instead adding $56 billion more. For those who don't know, there are programmed reductions in Medicare reimbursements to physicians that are supposed to "kick in" automatically, and every year Congress passes a bill to reverse those cuts for the simple reason that such reductio ...

Montpelier, VT: (AP) Five New England residents and five national health care advocacy groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the federal agency that administers Medicare, saying it had illegally reduced or denied benefits to thousands of patients with chronic health problems. Medicare End Of Life SpendingDec 11, 2012

Question About Soc. Security & MedicareDec 16, 2016
To those of you who are single, receiving Social Security and Medicare, do these numbers seem too high to you?  The amount taken out of my monthly social security check for Medicare is $140.  The amount taken out monthly for Part B insurance is $73, and for drug plan is $21 (total of $94 a month).  So each month $234 dollars are being taken out of my social security check to pay for health care.  Does this seem excessively high to you, or is this a normal-sounding amount? ...

Medicare Supplemental Ins. For Disabled Under 65?Oct 23, 2015

Reasons Not To Dismantle/Destroy MedicareApr 12, 2011
I was just thinking about the long-term ramifications of dismantling or changing Medicare so that it does not cover healthcare needs of the elderly. One important one that originally came to mind was that many people who are now in nursing homes or assisted living won't be able to afford it. They will need to move in with their children unless the children can afford to pay the difference, of course. That will come out of the college fund for families in some case when there just isn' ...
