This doesn't really surprise me. - Double Dipper

My husband and I have talked about how we thought we weren't out of the woods yet. I'm also afraid that if these gas prices continue to go up and stay up...we could be looking at more than just a double dip recession.

the housing market says a lot too.... also, where I live - they are laying off more police..again.nm

There are many reasons why, but at this time of year, the Wall Streeters and hedge fund guys like to manipulate the market so it falls in the late Spring/summer (i.e., "sell in May and go away"). So don't get all twisted up. They usually find some "reason" and they all run with it.

There is other news worth looking at: The jobs did tick up. The Corporations are still making money, (why are they not hiring in the US, though?--financial immorality if you ask me).

The big question is will the Republicans continue to hold the debt ceiling hostage. Even the Streeters are calling on the Pubs to call it off. A big game of chicken with everyone's livlihoods at risk so the Republicans can score a political point.

OK, I'll bite. What the heck is "financial immorality?" Share the wealth?

I don't know about these big corporations and why they make the decisions they make, but I know if I had a company, I would never expand or hire with this type of uncertainty. No way.
Financial Immorality - = Non-patriotic

"bite the hand that feeds you." Etc. You know, lay off U.S. MT's and hire ones from India and the Phillipines. Same deal.
why is it non-patriotic to keep money you earn legally? - anon

Are you going with social justice theme here?
Too young to remember "The American Dream"? - So sorry.

Whatever happened to taking care of your community and your neighbors? It is lawful to keep all your money to yourself, but it is something else to turn your back on your country and fellow citizens. I guess you just can't understand it which makes me very sad for you.
I would be happy to take care of them, but I am - now broke under Obama. nm

cannot defend Obama forever. Well, you can, and you can continue to vote for him as the country stays in a black hole. I, for one, will NOT be making that mistake again. The country is more important than any party or president to me.

Do you really know what would REALLY happen if the debt ceiling wasn't raised?

That's how the liberals work and the majority of the country has figured it out. Ahhh!! Crisis!! We have to do it right now!! The entire world as we know it will totally collapse if we don't this immediately!! Children are dying! (heard that one during the ObamaCare debate from Pelosi). Scare tactics aren't working any more. Can you say stimulus? ROFL

Now why would there be a "saying" of "sell in May and go away". Could it be because it is often true? Perhaps you should do some serious stock market chart watching and see what the big indicator does almost every summer. So tonight's nightly news blames the present market drop on three things: 1) The European economic crisis. They have been trotting out this excuse about every 6 months or so whenever they want to drive the market down. (they make money if the market goes up or down--doesn't matter--as long as you go along for the ride). 2) The gas prices. Well, you know that is artificially inflated or deflated. The third factor blamed is the debt ceiling which the above poster discounts. I am not saying there is any validity to the big fear factor (that the Republicans are using to decimate Medicare), but nevertheless, they will use it to get what they want, and if they have to drive the market down further, they will. Be scared, or see it for what it is. Buy low, sell high.
Most of us know its NOT just about the stock market. - Housing crisis is another big indicator.
[ In Reply To ..]
..and the stats show this worse than ever. Unemployment is not improving enough to help the crisis. This is not just about the stock market and speculators. This is everything combined. The country is in horrible shape. Face it. We need new leadership. Its pretty evident nothing the current administration is doing is improving anything. Actually, it may be delaying recovery.

Why We Are In A RecessionJun 11, 2012
We are in this recession because of the largest financial meltdown since the Depression, brought about by total lack of regulation of the financial industry.  Do you really think we can climb out of this in just a few years?  Do those of you who want to get rid of Obama want to put back the people who brought about this recession in the first place?  Unless there is some oversight of the financial industry, the same thing will happen again.  The Dems may not have been able to ...

Worst Of US Recession OverOct 12, 2009
The worst U.S. recession since the Great Depression has ended, but weak household spending as the labor market struggles to create jobs will slow the pace of the economy's recovery, according to a survey released on Monday. The survey of 44 professional forecasters released by the National Association of Business Economists (NABE) found that 80 percent of the respondents believed the economy was growing again after four straight quarters of declines. Is Janet Yellen Trying To Trigger A Recession ForMar 09, 2017
Trump might want to put a call in to Janet Yellen. The Fed is supposed to be a neutral, independent entity. However, that myth went out the window when Bernanke “gifted” QE 3 to Obama in 2012 to aid with the latter’s re-election bid. The Yellen Fed seems to be even more committed to defining the Fed as nothing more than a leftist establishment mechanism. Back in October when it still looked like Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 Presidential election, Yellen commented that she was c ...

Dementia Care Cost Is Projected To Double By 2040Apr 04, 2013
The most rigorous study to date of how much it costs to care for Americans with dementia found that the financial burden is at least as high as that of heart disease or cancer, and is probably higher. And both the costs and the number of people with dementia will more than double within 30 years, skyrocketing at a rate that rarely occurs with a chronic disease.
