BREAKING: Senate deal reached. CRUZ will NOT block

Posted: Oct 16, 2013

This is significant.  Now we the people should hold BOTH parties responsible for this mess and DEMAND they start acting like adults and deal with deficit reduction NOT on the back of the poor but for one thing by NOT creating more wars we can't afford.

REDUCE THE OBSCENE MILITARY BUDGET.

;

BREAKING: BOEHNER says "We fought the good - fight, we just didn't win"

[ In Reply To ..]
I hate their methods, but they DID force us all to pay attention.

There is not a SANE person anywhere who doesn't want the debt reduced.

Now open my * government and get to the real work!

good??? - Effie

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't see any good in it.. it was just stupid in my opinion.

Fighting for a principle is what he means by "good" fight - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]

and it DEBT reduction IS worth fighting for - you just don't do it on the backs of the poor.

How about no more fake wars, Mr. Boehner, Mr. President? Both parties funded them both parties are to blame
what priniciple? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Debt reduction has nothing to do with raising the debt ceiling, and Brainer knows it. It's disingenuous on his part to pretend there was a principle involved.
I disagree - Call the media I can't believe i am writing this - just saying
[ In Reply To ..]

i am NOT defender Boehner's tactics, but raising the ceiling has EVERYTHING to do with the debt (reduction).

If you were trying to get rid of your credit card debt would you lower the limit on the card or raise it?

Their principle was ADD NOTHING more to our debt - which is why they tried to block the 'ceiling' or credit limit. That was a cover for trying the stop obamacare, which is why the so-called principle did not fly with so many of us - we could see the transparent lie.

OMG. The debt ceiling has NOTHING TO DO WITH - future spending.
[ In Reply To ..]
It is all about paying debts already incurred by way of both sides voting FOR past spending measures. You cannot "default" on debt that does not yet exist.
Then, don't you think they should have curbed their spending? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
It's plain bull. They can't keep going like this. They have to stop the insanity of spend, spend, spend. This is the reason these fights are taking place.
the debt ceiling is not about spending - it's about paying...sm
[ In Reply To ..]
What we owe - our national debt - is as much about revenue as it is about spending. I hope we can bring these factors into balance for our economic wellbeing and longevity.
No kidding. Then don't you think they should have curbed their spending? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't get it, do you? Let me explain it again.

They SPENT more than THEY TOOK IN. We are taking in more revenue because of more taxes, but they look at that extra money as gravy and instead of putting it on debt, they SPEND it, so what they bring in now will be tomorrow's HIGHER debt. It's a vicious circle.

Either they have to cut spending OR they have to raise taxes again. Which is your "druther?" I'd rather they cut spending instead of putting more taxes on the backs of the people. Wouldn't you?
TH, I don't talk to you like that. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I responded really respectfully to you, and I thought I was clear and reasonable. The reasons we spend more than we take in are complex. Beyond that, I'm not going to get into an argument about it, and I certainly am not going to have a conversation with you.
You'll only get respect from her if you agree with her. (nm) - Libby

No, if I get respect, I show respect. Your subject line is your mantra. - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't show any respect for any conservative on this board, yet you expect respect from them. Sorry, doesn't work that way.

So, if YOU want respect, try using some respect towards others.
The poster you were so rude with treated you with - Libby

respect, and your response to her was hateful.

I know who is worthy of respect on this board, based on their former and current posts.

Thank you for not respecting me. I wouldn't WANT you to.
Give it a rest. You are not only out of line. - You are wrong.
[ In Reply To ..]
This is not the time to expect ANY sympathy for the poor victimized conservatives to start whining about how persecuted they are. Not the time. You might try that shtick again after tonight's vote and whenever FULL GOVERNMENT SERVICES have been restored. Apparently you are a bit out of touch with the well-deserved anger conservatives are dealing with at the moment. They earned every bit of it.

please, tell me how I dissed you - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You don't get it, do you? Let me explain it again. ;)

At some point, you have to take responsibility for your behavior.
Since when is "let me explain it to you again" disrespectful? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
If it is, then I apologize, but I explained it over and over before yet some here refuse to believe we should cut spending.

It's the same thing with our own budget. I can't spend more than I take in unless I use a credit card and I refuse to do that. Don't you think the government should start doing that, too? Or don't you mind the spending attitude of the administration (and I'm not just talking about Obama. Congress is guilty of this, too, but mostly the Dems.
you don't get it do you? - (disingenuous)

Good, then let's stop the crazy spending. - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
Have you ever seen some of the idiotic grants and research projects the government does? Grants aren't paid back. That's free money.

I don't think we need a shrimp on a treadmill for whatever reason they did that. I remember something about a squirrel too, but can't remember what.

Agencies in the government purposely spend millions so when budget time comes around, they can ask for more so they can "prove" they need it.

Do a search on Tom Coburn and his 100 dumb government spending lists. I can't remember what it was really called but he puts it out every year. Eric Cantor had a You Vote site where PEOPLE (you and me) would vote on one of 3 projects chosen to cut $$ and how much it would save over a 10-year period. There were a lot of crazy stupid items on there that shouldn't even be funded but they are and they cost millions, if not billions, every year.

I wish people would wake up and really see what this government is doing but too many just use the talking points put out by the MSM.

When the federal government borrows to meet its obligations, it does so by selling Treasury Bonds. I have no such luck, as my global credit rating is nonexistent.

The debt ceiling is the total amount of money the government can borrow by selling treasury bonds. This is a good thing. If we didn't raise the debt ceiling, we would have to take a LOAN from someone ELSE instead of financing it ourselves.

"Lifting the borrowing limit simply allows the government to pay its existing bills. That debt exists whether or not Congress authorizes additional borrowing, and to avoid default it must be paid."

However, it makes me shudder to think what the untrustworthy Rs/TP are going to put this country (world??) through in January.

The Rs/TP now have 3 months to cook up another scheme to hold Americans hostage.

For that matter, I won't believe that THIS alleged "deal" wasn't tampered with/changed by the House before it has a chance to be signed. I just can't trust republicans. Ted Cruz alone has proven that they have NO ethics or morals and cannot be trusted.

Only because Obama and Reid made it at the expense of the public - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
You know darn well that did whatever they could to hurt just the public, knowing it would be blamed on everyone BUT them. I give them credit for keeping up with the lies.

Reid blocked everything the House passed and, again, the House is the one that is supposed to make law.

You didn't see them stop anything the military was doing, did you? Did you see anything closed that would hurt Obama, or his cronies? Did they offer to cancel their salaries during the shutdown? No, you didn't.

Then they threatened the SS recipients, Medicare, Medicaid, and veteran's pay. They don't play very nice at all.

They hurt the veterans and the public in general. By closing the parks, they lost millions. Watch for taxes to go up because of it. Something else they will blame the House for and don't forget, the fight isn't over yet. This will start all over again (if it ever stops) in December, January, and February.
HUH???!! It was the TP and McConnell (sm) - Libby
[ In Reply To ..]
who closed down the government and closed down all the national parks and 800,000 federal workers, etc.

They (the Reds) forced some of these workers to work without pay.

From where I sit, you have it completely BACKWARDS.

However, the alleged "deal" hasn't been signed yet. It's off to the House again, and anything can happen there -- more lies and cheating -- they might not sign ANYTHING before it's all said and done, because they have ZERO credibility.
Totally WRONG! Reid REFUSED to negotiate - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
as did Obama. In fact, it was more important for Obama to keep quiet and do his daily whatever it is that he does when he's not on vacation.

The workers will get their pay. It happened before. They weren't FORCED to work. They could have quit or called in sick.

You have it BACKWARDS. You are just using talking points. REID blocked all bills sent by the House. This government NEVER had to be shut down. Even when the House sent separate CLEAN bills to open the government, REID BLOCKED THEM. Obama refused to negotiate and told them how many times. That's NOT a leader NOR a president.

I have never, ever heard of a president sitting back and never negotiating with Congress. In fact, that is part of the president's RESPONSIBILITY - to keep government working smoothly. Obama did NOT do that.

I think you should read some history and bone up on government rules and regulations. Maybe you will understand how government is SUPPOSED to work.

I don't know of any "talking points." I form MY (sm) - Libby

opinion by listening to and watching the actions of the TP/Rs. I see it firsthand, so you're, once again, completely WRONG in your assumptions about where I get my information.

You must have "assumed," as well, your understanding of what you wrote.

What is WRONG with you people? I hope the tea party gets EXACTLY what they have coming to them tenfold between now and Nov 2014. I just can't WAIT for the mid terms.

Yes, you heard me right. I did say YOU people. Most reasonably sane Americans want nothing to do with the incessant ego trips and temper tantrums. Get a clue.
Great post! You nailed it. (nm) - Libby
[ In Reply To ..]
That's what they got - paid vacations - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
and the incessant ego trips and temper tantrums are what Obama and Reid are on.

What's WRONG with you people (words taken from your post)? I can't believe that you can't see non-negotiation as the way the government should work. What we have here is a one-sided government and the founders of this country are probably rolling over in their graves at all the constitutional rules Obama broke during these five years.

Today (10/17), during his short press conference, Obama stated again that he will NOT NEGOTIATE when the Jan. and Feb. ceilings come up again. That tells me that Obama is not the president of a republic. He is "fundamentally changing the country" and believes he is the czar of a soon to be socialistic or marxist, maybe even a communistic country. Only time will tell.

YOU people keep talking about Bush's debt but do the math,...a $5 TRILLION debt addition in EIGHT YEARS during his administration compared to a almost $7 TRILLION debt addition in FIVE YEARS, yet he gets a pass?

Read the CBO reports not the blogs or newspapers because you have to agree that they're all one-sided. The CBO is trustworthy.
Did they vote to restore the $1.5 billion per day - it cost the economy?
[ In Reply To ..]
That's $24 billion and still counting. I'm with Libby. I'll believe it when I see it. Wasn't it just yesterday they were all cock-eyed optimists before the GOP imploded all over itself? BTW, What about all the money lost by the invisible collateral damage cohort who are not federal employees? Would you like to look them straight in the face and tell them to just suck it up?

No TH. - Ain't no such thang.
[ In Reply To ..]
What they did was refuse to allow the nation to be held hostage by economic terrorists determined to extort and blackmail lawmakers and the president. Teahadists used threats, demands and unprecedented illegitimate/criminal tactics to extract ridiculous legislative ransoms and force agendas for which they could not get voter approval by means of constitutionally proscribed democratic election process. They failed as we knew they would all along.

This display of mean-spirited and destructive insurrection did not go unnoticed by their victims, voters directly affected by the shutdown and brought to their knees by this despicable and disgusting political brinksmanship. Their story is told in plummeting recent polls that tell us dog poop, hemorrhoids, toenail fungus, potholes, the DMV, IRS, and zombies have a higher approval rating than Congress (NOT the president)....a truth that was met with censorship when Alan Grayson tried to tell it in the House Chambers. Global assessments are now portraying this outrage as a "politically bankrupt" process that sucks the blood from its own people.

Speaking of censorship, let's now start the clock and see how long it takes to get this post riddled with bullets or have it disappear all together. These days that is how extremists react to facts and opposing opinions. I give it 5 minutes, max.
Excellent post. Thank you. (nm) - Libby

And I don't blame them. The TP is piggybacking on the GOP ticket, and now their approval rating is lower than ever and lower than the democratic party and lower than the president.

I sure hope so since they are known by the company (sm) - Libby

predicted ? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know if something can be called a prediction when it's self-evident, but everyone - ALL the media, all the pundits, the congress, Boehner and Cruz - knew they were going to have to raise the debt ceiling and pay our bills. They ALL knew we couldn't - and wouldn't - default.

And that's why it was called "brinksmanship" - because it was a high-stakes game, everyone knew the outcome, and no prediction was necessary.

When I warned those believed Obamacare COULD be - defunded that they would be disappointed,

this is what I meant. Everyone who goes to honest sources for information knew that just couldn't happen.
