Any one read Froma Harrup? She gets more weird in the following:

Posted: Nov 2, 2012

Her column in our local newspaper, “Access to Birth Control Doesn’t Count” really ticked me off. Of course it does!. What I have noticed is that those who yell the loudest about birth control blame the women, especially the poor, if they don’t use birth control and thus, get pregnant.

She stated “…Women who lead disciplined lives would move heaven and earth to manage their fertility…To them, this exclusion in coverage is merely insulting…”  I think it’s insulting to think that those who lead disciplined lives need help.

“The concern is women scraping by…high school kids with no income…” How insulting to them!!!! Then to insult them even more, she goes on to blame them if they get pregnant!!! High school kids shouldn’t be having sex but many do. It’s also evident, that the call for parents to approve and pay for their kid’s birth control and many do.  Those scraping by have access to birth control but if they don’t get the help, then there’s a problem with the information available.

Even harsher is her statement that “…some are strangers to the larger world of responsibility or lack of mental capacity to make sound decisions.” WHAT??? Lack mental capacity? That statement alone was so insulting, if I wrote how I feel about it, I would definitely be banned from this board.

What she and others like her seem to conveniently forget is that women don’t have sex by themselves. A male partner plays a large part in this matter and should also take responsibility, but according to her, men shouldn’t or don’t, have any responsibility in this matter.  You can’t give a pass to the male partner in this matter. Now that’s irresponsible!

I'm afraid she's coming from a real world perspective. Some - don't/can't, whatever, take care of

themselves. We all know that from the patient stories we edit each day.

There's no intent to insult someone who's too depressed to even get out of bed to eat or too young to realize having a baby to love her isn't going to be among the best solutions to her problems--just to make it as easy as possible for them to avoid a motherhood they're not ready to handle.

I think that education should be first and foremost on - backwards typist

the "too young to realize having a baby to love her isn't going to be among the best solutions to her problems."

This is something that a lot of commentators fail to direct their articles to, and insulting women like this does not help matters. It just keeps the "war on women" idea alive.

Everyone agrees with you about education, BT. Those who work in - this field are absolutely committed.nm

Froma Harrop: Public Workers Must Join New RealityMar 10, 2011
This was a very good article in Tuesday's paper. Too bad the showdown with public employee unions has come to this. One can be pro-union and still feel a growing resentment at these workers. They aren't to blame. They got what they could, though they overplayed their hand by resisting honest efforts to reform government and schools. Public employees are fighting to keep their old-fashioned defined-benefit plans. Such plans promise to pay a set amount to each qualified retiree. If t ...

Okay, This Is WeirdJun 27, 2013
Okay, every now and then, I request an Email that someone has responded to a post I initiated. Lately (twice in the last week or so), I have received an e-mail that someone has responded, but when I go directly to the forum, the response is not there. I CAN click on it from the Email and read the response, but it's not on the forum. I thought maybe the Email was preceding the response, but I've gone back several times, and it's not on the forum--from my view, anyway. I wond ...

So...are You Weird Or Normal?Sep 14, 2011
I have a good friend who told me that I have a weird life. I started thinking about it and I realized that my life has been weird since before I was born! Let's see: I'm not only an identical twin, but a mirror twin as well (only 25% of identical twins are mirror twins)--odds of that happening: about 1 in 1000 births I'm left handed--about 10% of the population are left handed. I'm a color blind woman--normally only about .4% of women are color blind , but my color ...

Weird Democratic Strategy ...maybe? Jun 23, 2014
Has anyone else noticed the new Democrat strategy of trying to connect with the people in this country not making a million or more a year?  Hilary did the "we were broke when we left the White House" story and now Biden is thanking us for taking care of him? Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing ANY politician does or says is not part of a grand scheme.  It just really angers me that they pretend to even start to know how it is to live paycheck to paycheck and want us to feel sorry ...

Read All About It. News Flash. Just Read About What TrumpMar 19, 2016
Just hearing and reading about this today. Thousands and thousands of Latinos are rushing to apply for citizenship here to vote against Trump. In Texas they have 750,000 who are eligible for citizenship, in Arizona the number is around 139,000. One lady who has been in the US for over 20 years is now applying for citizenship. Most say the cost of becoming a citizen has been their main drawback, that being $680.00 but now even the legal ones feel threatened by what Trump has spouted off about. Tr ...

Okay, so I've got a tumor in my parotid gland that needs to be excised.  Radiologist leaned towards benign; surgeon leaned toward malignant, as the tumor has tripled in size over 6 months and now there is another nodule in my neck area.  My CEA is also elevated into the 4s; not a huge elevation, but elevated nonetheless.  My H&H are also concentrated.  Neither of these are reassuring. My surgeon did say an elevated CEA is usually more associated with colon cancer t ...

Can Anyone Read This And Actually Think That May 25, 2012
Does Mitt think this is okay?  NEW YORK (AP) -- Profits at big U.S. companies broke records last year, and so did pay for CEOs. The head of a typical public company made $9.6 million in 2011, according to an analysis by The Associated Press using data from Equilar, an executive pay research firm. That was up more than 6 percent from the previous year, and is the second year in a row of increases. The figure is also the highest since the AP began tracking executive compensation in 20 ...
