An Answer for "Seriously" on the Veteran's Bills

Posted: May 27, 2014

Takes a little time to do the research on the bills you listed instead of relying on blog posts by Daily Kos.

Guess what I found....Congress (House AND Senate) were controlled by the Democrats when these bills came up for vote - and here's how the votes went. Granted there are two of them I couldn't find the votes for, but the rest of the bills tell a different story than what's being lied about.

H.R. 466: Wounded Veteran Job Security Act - This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on June 8, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate.

H.R. 1168: Veterans Retraining Act – Which One????
There are 4 versions. The earliest bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on November 2, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate. Passed 356-0.

H.R. 1171: Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization -
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on March 30, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate.  Another bill: "For Vets Act of 2013"  of the same name in 2013 - To amend title 40, United States Code, to improve veterans service organizations access to Federal surplus personal property.) This bill was enacted after being signed by the President on August 9, 2013. Passed 387-1

H.R. 1172: Requiring List on VA Website of Organizations Providing Scholarships for Veterans -
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on June 23, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate. Passed 411-0

H.R. 1293: Disabled Veterans Home Improvement and Structural Alteration Grant Increase Act of 2009 -
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on July 28, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate. Passed  426-0.

H.R. 1803: Veterans Business Center Act -  -
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on July 28, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate.

H.R. 2352: Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act -
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress and was passed by the House on May 20, 2009 but was never passed by the Senate. Passed 406-15

So, would you like to tell me again how the Republicans voted NO on the above veteran's "bill after bill?"

;

Just look at who voted "nay" and "yea." - *hint: -R

Who voted Nay when it was a zero vote? Not make sense - Truthhurts

These veteran bills were bipartisan voted YEA by all in the House.

I meant zero vote against the bills. Not one vote against the bills - Truthhurts

in the House. Never came up for a vote in the Senate.

Show me a link where they voted for these bills in the Senate.

No, it's not. This bill wasn't even on your list. - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
This was a completely different bill. There were 2 votes on the one you're talking about:

Motion to table the motion by Senator Reid to commit the bill (S. 1982) to Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs with instructions to report back forthwith with amendment SA 2767 rejected in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 44 - 52.

Motion to waive all applicable budgetary discipline with respect to the measure rejected in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 56 - 41.
Don't you mean YOUR list? LOL - sm

No I don't mean MY list. - Truthhurts

I copied (you know, using the Ctrl C keys), pasted them on Word, and did my research on those bills from there. LOL

"Never passed by the senate" = Filibuster by Pubs - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Forgetful much?

No. Never passed the Senate because they went to COMMITTEE - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
Never left the Committees.

Also, they never voted on it in the Senate because it went to Committee. What don't you understand about how Congress works?

Try going to Thomas Law Library and read how everything works.

Why don't you school us on cloture again? - Call it what you will.

[ In Reply To ..]
Republicans blocked. Helps to keep notes.
Cloture is to end debate and discussion on a bill and move to a vote - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
It doesn't kill a bill or resolution. It just cuts off the discussion but 3/5th of the Senate has to agree via vote.

It doesn't allow any more motions or amendments to a bill except those that were put on the calendar at a specific time prior to the cloture motion. It's up to the Senate Majority Leader to decide what stays and what doesn't stay in a bill.

Serious question for TH... - SM

Did this all occur when BO had a supermajority?? Majority Dims in both House and Senate in 2009? (I tried to find the answer before posting this, but could not.)

Stats for Senate and House members from 2009-2014 - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
2009 Senate:59 D's, 41 R's; 2009 House: 256 D's, 244 R's.

Go to this site to see the stats from 2009 through 2010...then click on "beginning next Congress" at the bottom of the 2010 and click on Party Summary for members up to March 2013 then do the same up to March 2014. This takes in all dates.

Note the House did not take control until the beginning of 2011. So anything that came up for votes until then was in total control of the D's.

That's what I thought. - Thank you for the info and link!!

[ In Reply To ..]
The Dims had control, but yet continue to blame the Pubs. I guess they learned the Blame Game from the Anointed One.
Democrats never had a controlling majority in Senate - You can see clearly
[ In Reply To ..]
To overcome cloture/filibuster, Democrats needed 60 votes, never had more than 58 Democrats.

if there are more D's than R's, that's a majority - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
For passing a bill, it depends on which bills Reid decides to change the voting rules or leave as is. They don't need the 60-vote rule then and Reid has changed it plenty of times if it served his purpose. So why didn't he do it on that bill?

There have been plenty of times when R's crossed the aisle to vote with D's and just lately, I see some D's crossing the aisle to vote with R's. Could that be because it's mid-term elections?

I see a lot of people who respond to her let their feelings get in the way. But what I like about Truthhurts posts are its just facts backed up with links. I know it's easy to let your feelings get in the way of whether or not something is the truth. That's why I like her posts. I always learn something new and always find her links informative. I've even passed my links on to my husband who is pretty political savvy (and not attached to either party) and he's said "wow, where'd you find this? This is great".

Kudo's to you Truthhurts.

That's your opinion. I've found her posts to be fact filled - Mrs. Tingles
[ In Reply To ..]
And informative. If you don't like it that's only your opinion.

Something is either true or false - opinion does not matter
[ In Reply To ..]
It's just like Fox News. Lots and lots of stuff on there is simply false. They sued and won the right to actually lie to their viewers, which is ridiculous, but much of their hate-fueling material is demonstrably false.

Facts can be either true or false, and if I want to believe they are true or false it does not matter.

Kind of like science, too. If you want to believe the earth was created 6000 years ago and NOT that we evolved over millions of years on this planet, you can believe it, but that doesn't mean it's true.

The quote below by the host of Cosmos holds true in the realm of government as well, as dismaying as it may be to conservatives.

"The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." - Neil DeGrasse Tyson
That's exactly what I said - Mrs. Tingles
[ In Reply To ..]
It's just like CNN. They were found falsifying stories, doing filming in a parking lots in front of a green screen and got permission to lie to the public.

Facts are facts. There is no such thing as a false fact. It's whether a person chooses to believe the facts or not that is what makes it different.

The quote you wrote is not dismaying to conservatives. In what sense? Which subject are you talking about. Science is a huge area to cover. Although one thing about science is you have to take into account who is telling you the information, who are they getting funded by. Say for instance global warming. While all scientists agree that the earth goes through warming and cooling periods that is a fact. But I know there is a lot of information out there being funded by leftists, scientists getting huge payouts and algore running around trying to claim something when all the records and climate scientists have proven the opposite is true, but algore will profit by the lies put out. So again, something scientifically may be true, but you have to research the groups or individuals distributing the information to find out if it really is true and who is funding them and if there is an alterior motive behind it ($$$$$$$).
History Lesson, Nuclear Option - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
First time in November 2013, Democrats used a rare parliamentary move to change the rules so that federal judicial nominees and executive-office appointments can advance to confirmation votes by a simple majority of senators, rather than the 60-vote supermajority that has been the standard for nearly four decades.

So this has only been used recently and on executive appointments.

Food for thought: “I maintain that every civil rights bill in this country was passed for white people, not for black people. For example, I am black. I know that. Senate Fails To Pass Modest Gun Control Bills. NmJun 21, 2016
WASHINGTON -- Just over a week after the worst mass shooting in American history, the Senate failed Monday to advance a pair of modest and popular gun violence reform measures. Another would have tightened the background check system to cover the so-called gun show loophole and all internet gun sales. About 90 ...
