Alaska State Legislature/State Personnel Boad findings - TXMT

[ In Reply To ..]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Public_Safety_Commissioner_dismissal#Branchflower_Report
Alaska State Legislature investigation findings:

1.Governor Sarah Palin abused her power as Governor in that her conduct violated AS 39.52.110(a) of the Ethics Act, which provides "The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust." This statement was later rejected (presumably by the State Personnel Board).
2.Although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
3.Harbor Adjustment Service of Anchorage, and its owner Ms. Murleen Wilkes, handled Trooper Michael Wooten's workers' compensation claim properly and in the normal course of business like any other claim processed by Harbor Adjustment Service and Ms. Wilkes. Further, that he received all the workers' compensation benefits to which he was entitled.
4.The Attorney General's office failed to substantially comply with (the investigation's) August 6, 2008 written request to Governor Sarah Palin for information about the case in the form of emails.[115]
The report also concludes that Palin wrongfully allowed her husband, Todd Palin, to use state resources to pursue having Trooper Wooten fired, stating that "Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda..."[15]

The report also recommended some clarifications of ethics statutes for the future. The third finding relates to evidence that Alaskan officials had informed the owner of the firm handling Wooten's worker's compensation claim that the Governor wanted Wooten's claim denied.[116] However, the report finds that the claim was handled without regard to any attempt at political pressure.

Then the McCain camp concocts an 11th hour Hail Mary pass and launches a scheme whereby SP BRINGS ETHICS CHARGES AGAINST HERSELF with the State Personnel Board in an effort to challenge the above findings, stating that the personnel board is "the only nonpartisan" body who could conduct a fair investigation. Yeah, of course it is. The State Personnel Board answers to the Governor of California, SP at the time. This investigation magically exonerates SP on November 3, 2008, JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME, on the eve of the election.

Important to note that the Alaska Legislature findings have never been reversed by the Alaska Legislature, only by the hand-picked state personnel board. You do the math.
First of all, you do know what this was regarding and - WHO was behind it??

If so, would you, as a private or public person have acted any differently...or if Obama had done the same thing in the past, would you have seen this in a different light? Nevermind, I KNOW that answer. lol
Look, being a victim of domestic violence in the past - TXMT
[ In Reply To ..]
for 10 long and brutal years, I understand COMPLETELY what she did and why. As a public or private person, I probably would have gone to even more extreme measures, given the chance or opportunity. There are many hundreds of thousands of women out there who would have understood.

What I would not have done were I in her position is to try to say it ain't so. I would have admitted my culpability, and then proceeded to try to turn lemons into lemonade by deflecting attention off the ethics violation and onto a much more viable and potentially politically advantageous pursuit, i.e., showcasing the domestic violence issue. She did not do that. Instead, she chose to try to save her own skin, lie about it repeatedly and then play the victim card by trying to assert that boo-hoo, poor Sarah was being hounded by all those nasty partisans who were trying to get to the truth and make her admit that she had abused her power.

BTW, that also makes her largely responsible for all the taxpayer money that was spent in the investigation (not to mention the peronsal expenses she inflicted upon herself). This was within the context of a national election where abuse of power was very much a viable concern for all Americans, especially considering the unabashed display of just that from the outgoing administration. Furthermore, she tried to gain more political traction from the self-inflicted debaucle by trying to justify her resignation out of "concern" for taxpayer expense.

Let's not forget that she had also portrayed herself as the squeaky clean ethics queen and ran on a platform of being the one who promised to clean up the unethical political practices of her predecessors. Can you say hypocrite?
Look. It is obvious, even though you to appear - to be all about "fairness", you
[ In Reply To ..]
are simply about labeling Palin. She never claimed to be "squeaky clean". She claimed to have common sense and represented more of the idea of the average American, which she certainly does when compared to Obama and members of Congress. They are all about bribes. Oh,, and "transparency". BTW, THAT was Obama's big nonstop claim. Is he? NO..far from it. So, should we kick him to the curb with Palin..huh? Nah, you wanna see a hypocrite? Ask the President to give you his photograph.
Please do not rewrite my post. - TXMT
[ In Reply To ..]
"Squeaky clean" are my words not hers. If I intended to say what you are trying to imply, I would have put those words in quotes. It is not a label. It is my way of describing exactly the campaign she ran when seeking the position of mayor of Wasilla. That was all about cleaning up the big bag unethical practices of her predecessors.

One has to assume that if she succeeded in that election, the voters expected her to do just that. She turned around and did what I described in my previous post, exactly the opposite.

SP does not represent the average Americans who voted Obama in and she also does not represent many of the more moderate republicans either. You would like to try to make this post about Obama or transparency or whatever in an effort to avoid answering the points I raised about her ethics violations, abuse of power, abandonment of her electorate and job, her lies, the ensuing expenses she incurred to taxpayers and the blatent hypocrisy she displayed in her resignation speech relative to the ethics charges.

The thread is not about Obama. It is about her. Please respond to those points or start another hateful thread about Obama. Every time pubs go running for the hills when faced with issues that require acknowledgement, thoughtful debate and solutions, only to come back with a boatload of Obama bashing, they only end up showing how bankrupt their policies and platforms are. This thread is no exception.

The notion that SP has common sense is laughable. What you are failing to understand that when you conflate her importance and try to elevate her status over and above the other leaders in your party who DO display political saavy, intellect, and common sense, you end up shooting yourself in the foot. SP's disgraceful performance in he 11th hour of the campaign in terms of these ethics charges made her look much much more like a beltway insider than the hockey mom/ethics queen image she was trying to project.
It really is amazing, though, that you people can - see SP as so dumb, yet
[ In Reply To ..]
are believing Obama is so brilliant. This man, who has never run a darn thing, shows so much now his lack of experience. He only looks to be brilliant when reading a prepared speech. You are SO swayed by the constant big network left-wing media that you are truly brainwashed. There is no reason to argue with you because you are so blinded. Meanwhile, our country is being flushed down the toilet while you continue your Palin obsession.
So I guess this means that - TXMT
[ In Reply To ..]
you still have not noticed that this thread is about SP and not President Obama and remain constitutionally incapable of holding a conversation directly addressing the truth that is staring you in the face. Most people would construe that as a concession to the debate's main premises.

The O slurs do not merit response but in my own defense I will say that I, along with 69,456,897 of my fellow Americans, was not swayed by the media nor brainwashed. The process I use when selecting a candidate is an intense one-on-one experience between me and the candidate. I listen to what he/she has to say and do my homework. I then select based on who best represents my interests and reflects the world view and vision for the America I want to live in and the one I want to see my son inherit after I'm gone.

As for that so-called obsession, the Whittler opened this can of worms (not me) by introducting a video which was described as "all I need to know" about SP and the left. That sounded just a tad on the arrogant side so, being the independent minded person that I am, I felt a response was in order. Last time I checked, freedom of speech is what this form is all about.
