Well, thank goodness. Gov Patriot, whose secession mania has garnered so much support that some anarchists (according to Texas Rangers and DPS) burned down the Governor's mansion, after which he commandeered 11 million in stimulus funds to repair it while turning down stimulus money for all other Texans...you mean THAT Texas.

I am sure his official switch to the GOP has thrilled Hidalgo county, which is in the southernmost tip of Texas on the border. Guess he forgot where he came from, since those folks donâ��t cotton too kindly to tougher immigration reform.

This is the first time ever I have seen an article talk about Texas legislators being concerned over a large segment of the poulation going to prison. Weâ��re mighty proud of our nickname, the Gulag State, in reference to the wasteland Bush prison reforms left behind after he left for DC.

To better address this oversight thing they talk about with the undocumented maids, lawn care and houseworkers, they need to take the kid gloves off already and extend this oversight into a blanket amnesty for immigrant workers in all walks of life here. If we deported all the illegal immigrants, the stateâ��s entire economy would collapse. The reality is that white poulations are outnumbered in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, just to name a few examples. Of the minority majorities, Latinos and Hispanics make up approximately 75-80% of that group.

The voters who press for tougher immigration laws are oblivious to the fatal economic impact that would result from such measures. English as an official language is a joke, unless they want to create a bureaucratic nightmare. What they might save in costs of publishing everything in Spanish and English, they would spend 10 times over in the costs of real-live translators they would have to employ in every single state agency, not to mention the delays it would cause in processing even these most basic services.

That 8% surcharge for money wired from Texas to Latin America is even a bigger joke. It would simply drive all that underground and create clandestine jobs no one could tax like runners and third-party agents who do this for very small fees. That traffic stop citizenship status check is not worth the paper it is written on. Houstonâ��s Mayor Parker has plainly stated she would not even consider enforcement of this malarky, like her predecessor, Bill White did.

Leave it to the Texas pols to protect house staff for the rich. Thank God the legislature only convenes every two years.

I am celebrating 30 days of sobriety. I've been off benzos and booze for 30 days now and feeling okay.
