Up for a job interview in a few days - sm

Anyone have any suggestions how to interview well. I just suck at interviews. I look great on paper but I think I either tend to be too jokey or too serious/scared/timid. Any ideas how to get a happy balance and not come off a total idiot? I have not had an in-person interview in about 3 years. Need to get out of MT, job is being outsourced soon and need to get out. Any suggestions/advice is appreciated. TIA.

or secretary or whoever the gatekeeper is. Listen well. Research the business and jot down a few questions concerning the business that show you did the research.

I am going to be on the job hunt too, so I hope you get some more answers on this thread, but I remember not too long ago, somebody posted that they were asked what their strengths and weaknesses were. That got me thinking how I would answer those questions. That would certainly make me feel a little better knowing what to possibly expect in an interview. I haven't been on an interview in more than 10 years, so I think I am going to go to a local job training center and get some help, you know like practice interviews and also help with my resume. I wish you the best of luck, you're not alone.

I used to do interviewing for HR and one of the strategies is for the interviewer to ask a question, and, even after you've clearly responded, sit there silently and wait for the interviewee to get nervous and start randomly babbling to fill in the awkward silence.

If they use this strategy during the interview, just calmy sit and smile at the interviewer and don't fall into the trap, lol...They apparently are trained to do this as it's related to how an employee will perform under pressure or in awkward situations. When the interviewer sees you're not going to start rambling away, he/she will move on to the next question.

Send a short thank you note or e-mail. Heard on the radio this morning that 70-something percent of interviewers polled said that that little act really can influence their hiring decision.

It is today, but will do the f/u like suggested. I already scored some brownie points as they wanted another date for the interview and I was not available, but then the thing I was doing got changed, so I called them back and let them know so they could schedule me when they had originally wanted me to. They thought that was very thoughtful and said they were going to mark it down on my application. They had already made other interviews on the day I am going (today) so we just left it there, which is fine. A lot of people applied so be a miracle if I land it, keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for all the advice!

Will know I think by the end of the month or Dec. 7, not sure. Had over 100 applicants, I was in the final 15 or so after reference verification. Some indicators I am in the running, more than 1 position so that helps up the odds some. Guess I will see soon, thanks everyone.

I called and thanked them on Monday and was told they really liked me and it was down to me and 4 others, with 2 being cut. Decided to hire 3 people, more part-time than anything but it will work for me and get me out of this house. So get to go in and watch and listen for a couple hours, I guess they want to see how I deal with things and if I am a good fit for their office, very team oriented and with any luck make the final cut. Will see!

They did not pull any punches like MSM does. I had the Univision site up but there are 3 videos on there that all play at the same time. Distracting if you don't hurry up and stop the playing. On the Univision site, there was also an interview with Romney and the audience seemed to like it.
