What do you do to get awake some days AND get motivated?

I woke earlier, made my coffee, had a shower, turned my computer on, started working and now I cannot keep my eyes open, nor do I have the motivation to sit here today.  Please tell me what some of you do to get motivated, awake and going.

My routine is similar, but before I work I jog or walk for about 20 to 30 minutes. That gets my heart pumping and puts me in a good frame of mind.

My suggestion would be to do some type of physical exercise. Being a work-at-home person is very hard! It's hard mentally and hard on the body. If you don't take time for yourself to keep yourself in good mental and physical health the at-home job is much harder.

Job stress for us is VERY HIGH. Exercise is a natural stress reliever. Stay hydrated too!

then get up and have my latte (1/2 coffee, 1/2 cappucino, double caffeine). I drink that while checking my email and then I lace up my shoes and take a 3-mile walk. When I get back, I grab a shower and get to work.

If you're having trouble focusing, you might want to schedule yourself 10-minute breaks every hour and then try spacing them a little further apart each day. Throw a load of laundry in or step outside for a few minutes. Just something to refresh your mind.

I wake up with my husband and while he's getting ready for work, I get ready for work, only difference is I don't have to drive to the other side of town!

I also go to the gym before I get started. I have eliminated caffeine from my diet, as the caffeine crash just feels horrible. I feel much more energized from my workout at the gym. I do 20 minutes of light cardio then some toning with weights.

I used to sleep until noon or so then work well past when my husband would come home. I had to drink at least 2 pots of coffee to stay awake and had gained 25 pounds! One day I thought I was having a heart attack, went to the doc and they determined it was probably too much caffeine (coffee, soda, tea...) and a panic attack. That's all it took to get me on the right track.

I hope you find something that works for you. Being at home is hard, but you have to make sure that you don't become a house prisoner. That gets you depressed and that makes you feel tired all the time.

take time to evaluate why you feel tired: did you eat yet? are you dehydrated? are you depressed? Getting sick? Find out what is bothering you and work from there.

at home now for almost 15 years and never had any problems until recently with motivation, staying awake, etc. However, with your posts I realized what it is that has changed and I am missing ... I was walking on my treadmill every morning until about six months ago. Starting in the morning I am back on my treadmill before my shower and before my coffee. Hopefully that will make a huge difference and I will be able to make it through the day without having to fight sleep or concentration issues.

If that doesn't work, pseudoephedrine works quite well, but it also makes my temper take a turn for the hair-trigger variety. Which then puts my computer, and all objects within an arm's reach, in dire jeopardy if something happent to tick me off during the day.

Honestly, though, what can really motivate me is if I get a couple of nice, long reports by a good dictator, instead of the usual cr@p I get. On the other hand, if I get a slew of mush-mouthed undecipherables, I get tempted to turn off the computer and give in to that ever-strengthening sleep-urge. (AFTER throwing the computer out the window, of course!)

I hope you're not serious about the caffine, No doz, sugar and pseudoephedrine! We're apt to find you dead on the floor of a heart attack!

It's actually much better if you elminate caffeine and refined sugars from your diet, don't use energy drinks or products to stimulate you. I agree with the others, get some exercise!

Oh, I do exercise. But its amazing how much faster - the caffeine/sugar/pseudo-e makes me run!

I do eat a fruit or a vegetable now and then. As long as there's sugar on it.

One day I came to work after waking up about 10 times at night coughing, and then I took a decongestant on top of that, so I figured I would be so zonked, the day would be shot. But I had an amazing, focused, productive day. I looked at the medicine I had taken. Hmm, Sudafed... Looked it up online and found, yep, no coincidence, it was called "the poor man's Ritalin" and that is what they use to make meth!! Ack! Can't abuse it though. Can't take it two days in a row. The effect wears off. Only in absolute emergencies, maybe after extreme insomnia, NOT including staying up too late the night before. Now you have to sign a logbook at the pharmacy to get it, anyway. And sugar and carbs put me right to sleep, since I've passed 40. I used to chuckle at the old office biddies who would nod off at their desks after lunch, now I'm not laughing anymore! Well, gotta go take a nap now.

I get up, get my coffee, drink way to much. then any one of the following before during and after work; jump rope (get a nice one with bearings in the handles!), go for a walk, go for a bike ride, pull some weeds (theres always weeds), swing my clubs or hit some practice balls right in the house!!, anything to get the blood flowing. Sean Connery would suggest stomping your feet!
