Are kids out of their mind these days or what??

There is a neighborhood kid across the street that is in middle school and he and his friend are 'starting a business.' I am all for kids having initative and working but they put out a flyer that they are starting a business and will walk your dog for 50 cents a minute. Are you kidding me?? That is $30/hr!!!!! I do not know many adults who make $30/hour. I told my husband that I must be in the wrong business. I know his mother and I am surprised that she did not counsel him better on what to charge and allowed him to tape this to everyone's door. I think he and his friend have lost their minds!!

The best quote I ever remember hearing was from Steven Bochco back when NYPD Blue was first on the air and it was considered so shocking. He was writing a script and he started censoring it himself thinking about stuff that he knew wouldn't get past the network censors. Then he stopped himself and essentially said, Why am I censoring myself. Shoot for everything I want and let them say no. I just might get it.
That has stuck with me all of these years. The worst that can happen to these kids is that they don't get any business and they may have to rethink their goals, but it's a heckuva learning experience either way.

If I'm making $30/hr, it would cost me more come home and do it myself. Of course, middle school kids should be in school when I'm working. On the other hand, he may get someone who says walk my dog AND do such and such and that person ends up with a bargain.

When you factor in that he also has to bring a poo-poo bag to clean up after it (IF he's a good neighbor!), which means a trip out to the garbage-bin after the walk, and probably ends up having to do other things as well, such as freshen his water or food bowl, or brush him, or hose off his feet if he got muddy during the walk, then yes, I think it's a fair price.
