Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas--the good ol' days

Posted: Oct 20, 2010

Wow!  Surprised this has come back from 1991.  My impression back then was that Anita Hill was very level-headed, was consistent and detailed with her story, even though the questioning went on and on and was quite brutal.   Even though I believe he exhibited disgusting behavior, he was still confirmed as a Supreme Court Judge.  What do you think would happen today if it was a similar situation?

Same thing would happen, since Anita Hill is a liar.nm - BLT

I think that Anita WAS telling the truth! However, intelligent women,....sm - oldtimer

especially intelligent black women, were often dismissed, patronized, and not taken seriously. I wonder what would have happen back then if Anita Hill had been white?

Probably the same thing - The youngun's don't know - sm

what it was like, even 1991. I recall having a board member call me "girlie". Many people asked me why I didn't just hit him over the head!

Yup. The most memorable dimunitive I experienced - was being addressed as little lady by

a so-called distinguished, seasoned, long-term immigration judge back in 1992 when fighting to keep my refugee husband from losing his status over a clerical error. We prevailed in spite of his best efforts to relegate my entire family (including our 3 kids) to the underbelly of the social cast. FYI, we are all bone-white citizens to boot!

The woman would win of course whether or not she was telling the truth - I never did believe she was telling the truth

Too many things didn't sit right with her story.

I'm glad Thomas was still appointed. Was just another woman trying to ruin a mans career.

Now a days, the woman will always win no matter whether or not she's telling the truth.

The woman who will not win in this deja vu dustup - is Virginia Thomas.

No apology is indicated and the entire incident begs the question, "what in the world was she thinking?" An olive branch (as Sir Thomas claims) does not begin with a saccharine-soaked demand for an apology. Is it possible that she and her husband can be THAT dense, as to believe they can palm this off as anything but a gross lapse in judgment, and highly inappropriate?

Virginia Thomas is the one who needs to crank up the apology, but quick. After that, she needs to friggin get over herself and deal with the fact that she is married to a sexually harrassing womanizer who Anita Hill successfully outed, despite his ultimate confirmation to SCOTUS. She made her bed (makes me shutter just to think of it). Now she has to lay in it, even after all these years. Some folks just don't know when to quit...even when they are ahead in the game and already have the upper hand. She has disgraced herself and her husband.

I didnt believe her either and glad he was appointed.nm - Independent

Any comments on how foolish the grudge-holding ax-grinding - Mrs. Thomas made herself look?

Just curious. Talk about needing to move on, but then again, her behavior is a perfect metaphor for her teabagger affiliates who only know how to look bakwards and, despite their station(s) in life, act that way too. Go figure.
Koch brothers, Citizen's United, Clarence Thomas and Mrs. Thomas - Sounds like Supreme Courtgate.

I bet all this won't be unraveled for awhile, but it sure will be interesting if/and when it ever does. Koch brothers, billionaire oil men having "seminars" that Scalia and Thomas have attended, with other ultra-conservatives like Glen Beck "to review strategies for combating the multitude of public policies that threaten to destroy America as we know it." Then comes the Supreme Court decision on "Citizen's United" that allows anonymous donations to organizations that have funded tea party groups, such as the one Mrs. Thomas leads.
Yes, and with Ginnie Thomas being a rising star - in that constellation,

another question comes to mind about what possible political motivations may be lurking under this appalling display of lack of couth and inability to bury the bone, so to speak.

Hillary Received Plan To Impeach Clarence ThomasSep 01, 2015
Hillary Clinton's recently released emails includes a memo sent by David Brock titled, "Memo on Impeaching Clarence Thomas." The document contains information from Brock about his book, The Real Anita Hill, and other similar points on Justice Thomas's personal life. The document contains details of Brock himself potentially inti ...

Clarence Thomas Is Conspicuously Absent In New Black HistoryOct 05, 2016
Justice Clarence Thomas, the second black man to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, is practically absent from the new National Museum of African American History and Culture. Anita Hill, the woman who accused Thomas of sexual harassment, however, is given prominent billing in the museum. The new Smithsonian, which opened in September, gives Hill pride of place in an exhibit on blacks in the 1990s. The exhibit features testimonies trumpeting her courage and the surge of women’s activism th ...

WASHINGTON—Senate Republicans' ban on earmarks -- money included in a bill by a lawmaker to benefit a home-state project or interest -- was short-lived. Only three days after GOP senators and senators-elect renounced earmarks, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, the No. 2 Senate Republican, got himself a whopping $200 million to settle an Arizona Indian tribe's water rights claim against the government. Kyl slipped the measure into a larger bill sought by President Barack Obama and passed ...

Oh, Those Good Ole Days Of High School Detention. Spent A Lot Of Time There.Feb 03, 2011
The post below made me think bad, and every time I do I laugh.  Now, I was not a bad kid but I spent more than my fair share of time in detention for the least little thing.  I would go to sleep in class and get detention.  Then I would go sleep in detention.  Our high school in Atlanta was grades 8-12, very large.  So you may have had 50 or more kids in detention.  Usually, the teacher monitoring detention did not even know you.  Sometimes I would have someon ...

The Words Of Thomas JeffersonJun 21, 2012
The property of this country is absolutely concentered in a very few hands, having revenues of from half a million of guineas a year downwards. These employ the flower of the country as servants, some of them having as many as 200 domestics, not labouring. They employ also a great number of manufacturers, and tradesmen, and lastly the class of labouring husbandmen. But after all these comes the most numerous of all the classes, that is, the poor who cannot find work. I asked myself what could be ...

Spinoff of a thread in Politics. Does anyone read Dean Koontz? I *loved* him in the 80s, and even though he's become kind of formulaic, I still have a soft spot for him. I especially love the Odd Thomas series and I'm stoked about the upcoming movie. The casting is kind of (forgive me) odd, (Patton Oswalt as Big Ozzie? mmmkay) but I'm still shamelessly looking forward to it. I'd love to have seen James McAvoy as Odd, but I guess he's too old. ...
