i have been so sick

Posted: Oct 27, 2009

Is this just the flu?  Fever, unbreakable, at a brain-boiling 101 for 48 hours.  I took toxic amounts of alternating Tylenol and Advil, with tons of GatorAde and ice water, but could not break it.  All day Saturday and Sunday, just burning up.  I was seriously tempted to start making funeral arrangements.  And cough, so bad that now my rib muscles are ripped, hurts every time I cough or sneeze.  Body aches, everything hurts, head, shoulders, knees, elbows, back, hips.  I am dying.  So now, day four, productive cough and head congestion, finally no fever, but still muscle aches and headache.  I can hear my lungs rattling with gunk, so I've now started the Mucinex.  Of course, no health insurance and just trying to tough this out on my own, but surely hating it.  My little one had it, too, but not to the degree that I am sick.  23 percent of his school is out sick.  Anyone else?

So sorry you have been so sick... - sm

It does sound like you had influenza with the high fever and all over bodyaches. And, yes, you will feel like you're dying with the real thing...it makes you feel just sooo bad, worse than a cold or just another viral deal going on. And that does take a good week before you get to feeling like the "living" dead...ha! Sorry!

BUT, with the stuff in your chest now, a few days out, wondering if maybe you have developed a secondary bacterial infection. Do you have a "free" clinic type setup in your community or low income clinic so you could see a doc? You might need antibiotics if that's the case....

Goodness, I'm so sorry. Seems like you really need sm - Sally Forth

to see a doctor, even if you don't have health insurance. Can you scrape together something for just a one time thing?

I have crummy health insurance and, on occasion, have used the clinic at CVS Pharmacy. That could another option.

I really hope you feel well soon.

positive for H1N1. No antivirals are being given unless you meet certain criteria so save your money in going to the doctor for now. All they told us and everyone here is to use the Mucinex, Advil/Tylenol as needed, gargle, lots of fluids and lots of rest. It took my entire family almost 2 weeks to get over it, my grandson was the worst at almost 3 weeks. His temp was over 103, at 104 at night and never below 101 during the day for almost 14 straight days. He has been fever free now for well over a week but his energy level is still significantly diminished compared to what it was and his appetite has just started improving within the last 2 days.

I truly hope that you feel better. I found that soaking in a warm tub of water several times a day made me feel somewhat better. It seemed to help with the congestion in my head and chest, helped with the aches, helped bring the fever down a little and just overall made me feel a bit better for a short time.

Again, good luck and hope that you feel better soon!!!!

Sorry for the long post all.

I contracted hog virus. High fever for 1 day but coughed for 3 weeks. Took no aspirin, Tylenol, or any other drugs. Fever is body's way of fighting toxins. Take drugs and you be sick longer. Excellent diet for many years keeps illness at bay for me. Works great!! No vaccines ever. Immune system strong. When flu vaccines come in, you can have mine. ;-)

Neti pots and sinus rinse kits are available at the drug store and relatively inexpensive...under $15.

Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).

The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible not coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions.

Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6.* Drink as much of warm liquids (Tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Keep in mind that the target population is the younger crowd, so pass this on to your kids and grandkids. We the older population will have some immunity. However, it doesn't hurt to follow these guidelines!!

thanks for the good advice - Still healthy

though just a bad cold/virus here. Whole family has it to varying degrees. Oldest DD had a fever for two days last week, the rest of us have just had head congestion, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, and body aches. I am currently relapsing for the past 2 days after I had been getting better. I started working late again as I was feeling so much better and had energy again (too soon obviously), was not getting enough sleep and relapsed, so need to stop that until I kick this thing, figure by Wednesday next week I should be totally back to normal as long as I take it easy. Everyone else here has bounced back pretty quickly, I have had it for over a week now and hoping to turn the corner again by tomorrow. I have not been taking much for it for a change as I have been able to breath pretty good even at night. I get really hot though, but no temp, it actually drops when I feel like I am burning up, actually sweating, but temp is 97. Totally stinks. I tried Mucinex last year, think I had a reaction to it as it made me feel so much worse, so never trying that stuff again. Once it wore off I still felt sick but not like I was about to die. I stick to Day-Quil and Alka-Seltzer cold medicine now.

My abysmal vitamin D level of 7 is now 94 thanks to simple, inexpensive supplementation with Carlson's Vitamin D3. Below is a link to what Dr. Cannell of the Vitmain D Council has to say about H1N1: Very interesting. I have not had a single cold, flu, allergy, virus since getting my level up high.

The attacks on president Obama are not something new from the republican party. President Clinton was subjected to the same rabid persecution from Whitewater to Monica Lewinsky, anything to dismantle his presidency.  Thankfully he prevailed and is still respected for his accomplishments and his statemenship.  In the case of Clinton vs Obama, republicans eventually caught Clinton in a compromising position with Monica thus revealing his weak points, sex and women.  In the case of p ...
