So sick of this!

Posted: Feb 22, 2014

Why are weekends mandatory when there's never any work? I can go work at McDonalds and at least make minimum wage standing around all day wasting my time! This is BS!! I'm stuck in my office until noon today with NJA. I'm not going to use my PTO to make up NJA or work extra hours this week to make up the NJA and God forbid go over 40 hours! This is complete crap! I should send my electric bill to my MTSO and make them pay it! I'm so done with MT, it's not worth it. If I wanted to sit home all day and not be paid, I may as well be unemployed seeing as I have no money for a life anyway. GRRR No wait, I guess I'll use my time "productively" and read yet another huge set of acct specs for yet another client that isn't sending me work. The eye strain and migraines are NOT worth 9 CPL!;

Use your NJA time to study for a new career.

Ha ha. Yep. Been doing that. I put in 1 new job app each day this week when NJA. - clb

I'm trying to find an affordable self-pay health insurance plan for me/hubs, buy it, and then once a new non-MT job comes along, even $9 an hour at an office, don't care, I'm GONE!! I will be out of MT for good by 12/31/2014 even if I have to sell my body, at least that pays LOL

I'm pretty sure ALL of us will be out of MT by 12/31/14. - Its what MTSOs are working towards.

[ In Reply To ..]
Why this year? - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
Why do you think 12/31/14? Do you mean the big MTSOs or all? Anyone out there think the MT profession will survive?
Because of changes in so many of them last yr, - and changes in IC laws, higher -

min. wage going up in some states, and the fact that all hospitals and clinics are mandated to be on EMR this year. As they're getting on EMR, they're deciding they don't need MTs at all, nor do they need to even outsource the work. The docs are doing their own report creation now in more and more hospitals. The continual paycuts MTs keep getting have almost reached critical mass. We can't take it anymore and we're leaving in droves - going back to school, taking other jobs, or retiring early. Even Indian MTs are realizing they got the short end of the stick. The whole MTSO industry has been a scam that's just about run its course.

when VR first began, I read and was also told that the profession would probably be 100% gone by 2012. Its 2014, and while it is certainly diminishing, it is not 100% gone. Why do you pinpoint it to the last day of 2014?
Probably because they now have Epic. Before it was all VR and that really failed. - n/m

Epic is not universal or synonymous with EHR - It is just one of them
[ In Reply To ..]
You can't lay all of it on Epic. All EHRs are not Epic. That is just one brand name.

The largest and probably the best one is VistA, the system developed and used by the VA, believe it or not. They are years and years ahead of the rest.
I didn't say it was, but it and others like it are taking our jobs. - n/m

No jobs stay the same - You can grow into another
[ In Reply To ..]
No jobs have ever stayed the same. No matter what you do, you have to change with the job.

EHRs have created loads of job opportunities that you could have moved into.

Like what? - clb

Besides editor or selling the software? How is being an MT going to help us get ahead when this career is becoming nonexistent? The only way to change with the job is to change jobs completely, or be without one :-(

It's like being a telephone switch board operator, that job never turned into anything once the home phone was advanced. I feel like Rosie Rivots!
Oh, we changed with the job, alright. We learned - VR, trained it and EMR, and -
[ In Reply To ..]
"adapted" ourselves right out the door. And during this whole process, how many of us actually got any kind of advancement or lateral job opportunities whatsoever? Some? None?

And what happens when you started looking for work 4 or 5 years ago, found nothing, went to school, & still found nothing? There aren't very many MTs or ex-MTs that have potential employers beating down their doors to hire them in any capacity.

you hit the nail on the head - margarita

And I just did that....quit. I figured if i was making 50 cents an hour I could literally just sit on the couch. Can I afford? No. However, I refuse to work around the clock, but yet fake my timecard to make it appear like I work minimum wage; and refuse to work the equivalent of $1/hr because I was expected to check emails, fix qa reports, read 500 pages of BOS and account specs and generate letters with no additional pay (and get dinged on things like commas (debatable areas) and a hyphen not medical words or drugs). Yes, we should hold to high standards but people making literal slave wages with respect to hours put in is illegal plain and simple. Maybe if all jobs were put back in-house where they would have to adhere to labor laws this would end. It is especially amazing that most clinics now are laying off txers because of Dragon/VR or point and click; they put disclaimers at the bottom about typos to be ignored and read it in full context; but yet if you work for MTSOs they ding you for a comma??? And for working in these conditions?? Seriously....we should not accept this.

Right now, at $160/week, I'm making more on - UE than I did working for an MTSO.

Right on! The more you work, the less you make. How's that advancing?? - clb

[ In Reply To ..]
Bringing home less and less money for more and more work is BS! Work harder, work faster, work longer, work more, but wait all that production don't mean squat when your QA score falls and then your CPL falls. I bring home at least $100-$150 less per paycheck than 2 years ago. For the same exact work, er more work, more accounts, etc. How sad is it that I'm actually looking forward to jobs that pay $9/hour because at least they pay by the hour? Good thing I don't have kids to feed. :-(

I Have Been So SickOct 27, 2009
Is this just the flu?  Fever, unbreakable, at a brain-boiling 101 for 48 hours.  I took toxic amounts of alternating Tylenol and Advil, with tons of GatorAde and ice water, but could not break it.  All day Saturday and Sunday, just burning up.  I was seriously tempted to start making funeral arrangements.  And cough, so bad that now my rib muscles are ripped, hurts every time I cough or sneeze.  Body aches, everything hurts, head, shoulders, knees, elbows, back, hip ...

The attacks on president Obama are not something new from the republican party. President Clinton was subjected to the same rabid persecution from Whitewater to Monica Lewinsky, anything to dismantle his presidency.  Thankfully he prevailed and is still respected for his accomplishments and his statemenship.  In the case of Clinton vs Obama, republicans eventually caught Clinton in a compromising position with Monica thus revealing his weak points, sex and women.  In the case of p ...

Sick Of BothNov 01, 2010
I have been reading all the bashing on here for Obama, Democrats, Republicans, Bush, etc.  Frankly it is getting ridiculous.   You see, reading these posts makes me think of what Congress does.  Everybody is bickering and nobody is doing anything.  The comparison is not meant to put anyone in particular down, it is just getting old, just like our government (including both parties).  Frankly, I don't believe either party runs this country anymore.  I beli ...

Help With Sick DogMar 18, 2010
Kelsey, my 12-1/2-year-old miniature Schnauzer, has had arthritis for a few years. She was really in a lot of pain last fall and the vet suggested baby aspirin. I have been giving her baby aspirin and she was like a puppy again...until this past weekend. Just all of the sudden, she is back to feeling miserable. When she stands, her hind legs and front left leg shake. She did let me take her for a walk just around half of our block today but since then has been in bed and not getting up at all. S ...

Sick Mother-In-LawFeb 24, 2010
I am submitting a prayer request for my sick mother-in-law. She has only had one kidney for many years now. Recently, she was taken to the hospital to have a large kidney stone removed. (It required surger.) Her kidney functionality went from 30%to 10% in one week. I believe she will have to start immediate dialysis. I am worried and sad. I am praying that her functionality will come back. The doctors were hoping for that. She is the grandmother of my daughters, and I do not want anything to go ...

Sick And PetrifiedMar 26, 2010
Okay, so I've got a tumor in my parotid gland that needs to be excised.  Radiologist leaned towards benign; surgeon leaned toward malignant, as the tumor has tripled in size over 6 months and now there is another nodule in my neck area.  My CEA is also elevated into the 4s; not a huge elevation, but elevated nonetheless.  My H&H are also concentrated.  Neither of these are reassuring. My surgeon did say an elevated CEA is usually more associated with colon cancer t ...

So Sick Of Congress!Jul 17, 2012
Aren't they supposed to be working for us not against us?  Why does each side think it's okay to take the American people hostage as long as it furthers thier agenda?  It's not just the tax cuts that will expire, but it also puts into motion the defense cuts that were never supposed to happen, which could put more than 1 million people out of work.  I think every single one of them should forfeit thier paycheck until they come up with a plan that helps everyone, not ...

Sick Now - And Have To Take A Few Days OffJan 26, 2013
Great, there go my savings.  I THINK I'm going to doctor on Monday - hate driving there, 'cause it's low-income clinic far away from me, so I would hate for my car to break down, on top of being sick, besides having to miss work next week BECAUSE I NEED A FRICKIN BREAK. Should I just put off going to the doctor, keep working, not getting sleep, and then put myself in the hospital?  I'm not young anymore.  Not that I didn't get sick all the time when I was ...

I think it\'s time for Joy Behar to leave the View.  Need some new blood in her slot.  Her humor is based mainly on gay bashing, gossip and put downs to anyone who doesn\'t agree with her.  The view is getting a little stale anyway with the same gals in there too long so she would be a good one to replace, in my opinion.  Any other thoughts from anyone? ...

things seem to be going great.  Now they are not.  There was a point I had 2 jobs, but found out I could not do 1 because of software requirements and the other is about to fire me.  The ex has not paid child support at all for this month so that has been started (the ball rolling to get him put in jail).  But now that I have no job again (might as well say) I am not sure what to do.  Just so tired of being paid such poor wages on top of being treated very rudely.  ...

Excuse me, but this just totally gets my girdle in a pinch.,, My upstairs neighbor is on welfare... but does not need to be and totally abuses this. When she got pregnant, she had him quit his job at a local hospital, where he had full benefits, to work under the table (to hold her hand, and he is making 3x the money he did). Her parents now pay the rent and other expenses. She had the baby 8 MONTHS AGO. She is still collecting welfare. ...

Feeling Guilty About Sick HusbandFeb 28, 2011
My husband had terrible lower back pain and went to the doctor last week and was told he most likely had sciatica.
