Riots against U.S. actually about release of blind sheikh

I don't know how true this is, but it's starting to make the rounds on the 'net. I tried to find the article in USA Today, but didn't find anything.
USA Today reports that the riot at the U.S. embassy in Cairo appears to have been planned well before the Egyptian media reported on the anti-Islam YouTube film that was blamed for sparking the protest. The protest was reportedly announced on August 30 by Gamaa Islamiyya, an Egyptian terrorist group, to call for the release of its leader, Sheikh Omar abdel Rahman — aka the blind sheik, who is serving a life sentence for the first World Trade Center bombing:

The protest was planned by Salafists well before news circulated of an objectionable video ridiculing Islam’s prophet, Mohammed, said Eric Trager, an expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo was announced Aug. 30 by [Gamaa Islamiyya], a State Department-designated terrorist group, to protest the ongoing imprisonment of its spiritual leader, Sheikh Omar abdel Rahman, who is serving a life sentence in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
What is with this relentless search for a single-answer reason - for these riots?
[ In Reply To ..]No matter where you try to take it, and regardless of how many different reasons are given, underpinning all of it is deliberately provocative hate speech launched against Moslems, French cartoons being the latest copycat provocateurs.
Also, as has been stated repeatedly, there are many fronts to these protests, just as there are many political parties with a full-spectrum of beliefs that range from secular to moderate to extremist views. The real story that is getting little to no mention is what is going on behind the scenes with the multiple millions of Moslems who are trying to grapple with the humiliation their extremists are inflicting on their faith, what the appropriate reaction those super-majorities should use to counter the violence and the extremist image, the concept of free speech which has not been a part of the cultural landscape for decades under the repressive rule and how to come to terms with what that means within the context of emerging democracies in the Moslem World.
This is an immensely complex problem. It serves no useful purpose whatsoever to try to dumb it down to a one-size-fits-all explanation or solution, especially when the underlying motive is to take heat off stateside extremist partisans who promote the hatred in the first place.

Of course, I know it's a complex problem but I only copied a few paragraphs from a news report. In no way did I state it was my view....except that I stated I could not find the USA Today story on this.
