Hi all, I have a friend who had to go to the ER for an illness, unrelated to Subject Line here.
Anyway, they had done some routine liver function tests. The AST was 77, her ALT was 73 and her t-bili was 1.3. The ER doc dxd her with alcoholic hepatitis, at her own admission that she drinks too much alcohol. I'm trying to explain to my friend that this isn't hepatitis as in A, B, C, that hepatitis simply means inflammation of the liver and it's not a disease entity like the bacterial or viral. Anyway, I have her convinced of that.
However, I am having a hard time trying to make her feel okay because I don't know a lot about this. She's having yellow stools now for 3 days. Her PCP appt isn't for a week yet.
I've look on the Internet for her, but you know how that goes.
Does anyone have personal experience with this or have knowledge in this area, and can it basically be reversed if she stops alcohol intake NOW? She says she has, and I do believe her, but I wish I could tell her it's not too late. She basically feels okay, though was fatigued from another illness--but is coming around from that and feels pretty good now.
I know, she did this to herself, but we can't go there now.
