Trigger thumb

Posted: Jan 7, 2014

Is there any solution to trigger thumb besides surgery? Over the past month my thumb joint has been kind of "clunking," not never totally locking, and doesn't completely flex. It's slightly painful at times, but not too terribly. I thought maybe a thumb brace would help, but it doesn't. Any suggestions?;

It looks like a steroid injection might be helpful. Here's what I found on WebMD:

Thanks, I'll go check it out right now! NM - Anony

Got a cortisone shot, exercises to do, and a splint (actually two -- one for typing and one for night time). It's been about a year now and have not had any problems since except for a little arthritis-type pain in the thumb, but it's tolerable.

Thanks - anony

I do have a splint, and just found some exercises on YouTube that I'll try. I have a doctor's appointment sometime next month, but I suspect she'll send me to an ortho, and I don't want to go that route at this point.
Hope you feel better soon :-) NM - Mom22dogs

My regular MD gives cortisone shots - sm

Depending on your insurance, ask your primary to give you a cortisone injection. I think it will help you immensely. If it doesn't, then you might have to see a hand specialist. My primary injected cortisone into my tennis elbow (due to typing so much), and it worked like a charm. No pain ever since.
I SO hope you're right! NM - anony

Painful Thumb And WristDec 12, 2011
About five weeks ago I was cleaning my chairs and sofa with a small Bissel cleaner, and really overdid it.  I have been diagnsed with de Quervain's tenosynovitis of the right wrist.   I tried anti-inflammatory medication which only worked for a day, then back to bad pain again.   My doctor started me on a course of prednisone, which I took for ten days to no avail.   I am scheduled for an appointment with a hand specialist.  I know they sometimes do s ...

Know What Stands Out Like A Sore Thumb? SmSep 04, 2012
At the RNC the audience was predominantly white (as in I only saw like 3 black folks the whole time), very uptight, filled with suits, speeches had angry undertones, and of course there was the nut throwing incident as well as the physical assault. Now I know it's early, but thus far at the DNC I see a completely diverse group of folks who seem to be happy and excited. I detect no tension. On top of this is the involvement and inclusion of REGULAR PEOPLE in this event including local eve ...

Anyone Out Here With Trigger Finger? Mine Developed In The Last May 11, 2014
This came on quickly.  One morning a couple weeks ago I woke up and found that my ring finger on my left hand seemed to be stuck when I tried to open my hand up.  Since then it has gotten a little worse, hurts mostly in the morning and feels like it is popping out when I open my hand all the way.  I looked up trigger finger and what it says is exactly what is happening to me.  Unfortunately it looks like there is nothing to be done about it until it gets so bad you have to ha ...

Is Janet Yellen Trying To Trigger A Recession ForMar 09, 2017
Trump might want to put a call in to Janet Yellen. The Fed is supposed to be a neutral, independent entity. However, that myth went out the window when Bernanke “gifted” QE 3 to Obama in 2012 to aid with the latter’s re-election bid. The Yellen Fed seems to be even more committed to defining the Fed as nothing more than a leftist establishment mechanism. Back in October when it still looked like Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 Presidential election, Yellen commented that she was c ...

Obama: Politics And Ideology Should Not Trigger ShutdownApr 05, 2011
Note: During Boehner's statement, he said, "We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem." Obama said they are close. There is NO agreement as of yet. Democrats are still at $33B. The White House is insisting the top number is $73B but that ALSO includes the $43B already cut in the short term budgets to keep the government running. The budget cuts the Democrats want are not cuts at all according to the Republicans. "It's just smoke and mirrors." It looks lik ...
