I've developed a trigger thumb!

Anybody got any words of advice for me? Fortunately it has not affected my typing (yet anyway), but I almost cried when I tried to straighten it this morning! :-(

I assume from hitting the spacebar with my right thumb. It kept locking on me. Yes, it is painful. Had cortisone injection a few years ago and the orthopedist told me if it happened again, would need operation. So far, so good. No more pain. Good luck to you.

I don't have medical insurance, so..... - missp

Okay, this might not make a bit of difference in your situation, but here goes...

About 15 years ago, I started having right thumb sensitivity and pain because of hitting the spacebar so hard all day long. It never developed a trigger, but I couldn't bear to even let it touch the spacebar, almost as if a nerve was exposed or something. I started wrapping the big thumb joint with a rolled up paper towel to give it padding. Over the years, I've kind of refined the wrapping so that it's about 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick all around, and I scotch tape it to be snug so it won't fall off. It's sort of the equivalent of raising the spacebar 1/4 inch, changing the angle of contact slightly, and cushioning the joint. I can't type without it anymore. It looks really stupid, but it works for me. I usually make up a few of these a week and discard them when the padding flattens out.

Is there any solution to trigger thumb besides surgery? Over the past month my thumb joint has been kind of "clunking," not never totally locking, and doesn't completely flex. It's slightly painful at times, but not too terribly. I thought maybe a thumb brace would help, but it doesn't. Any suggestions? ...
