saving money with coupons

Posted: Dec 14, 2009

I just have to tell somebody this - I joined a coupon club online a couple of weeks ago and posted about it and what great deals I was getting, but today is the best...

I got 2 12-pack double rolls of Northern toilet paper, a bag of kibbles and bits, a large box of tide detergent, 2 packs of Rayovac batteries and I only spent $7 out of my pocket!!!

I also got groceries (spent $237 on $473 today) and have so much that I am going to share some of it with my in-laws and my family...

If you do not use coupons now, you should really start using them!!!  I never believed it was worth my time either until the last 2 weeks!

Thanks for sharing this. Which coupon club did you join? There are so many out there, don't know which is ligit or not. Thanks

Could you post the link you go to in order to get these coupons please? I did see your original post, but lost the link that I wrote down.

I am all for saving anything I can in these days of tight budgets. Plus when I do save money like that, I let my daughter in law and son come over and "raid the pantry" if they want. Hubby and I don't need it all. I also like to give it away to other folks.

Take care

the website where I joined was thegrocerygame.com; you can join for a month for free and try it out and just cancel if you do not like it. I recommend you save up some coupons for a few weeks before you do your free trial so you can see some benefits from it.

I also was told in the grocery store last week about another one that is free called couponmoms.com; however, when I went there, I did not like it as much.

if anyone is going to join, if you give my email as a referral I can get a free week - so please, do that if you join - every penny counts!

I think this is wonderful and it makes it kind of exciting to go to the grocery store instead of boring - it's fun seeing how to save yourself the most money.

It's so evident the money I am saving that my DH who never gets excited about anything is even bragging to people about how good this is (and I was not even there - a person who overheard his conversation called to tell me).

Anyway, good luck to all and let's try to save some money in 2010!

I saw your original post and tried it. The first trip i saved $63, spent $130, the second trip i saved $65, spent $79. I had coupons saved, but the site was so very helpful. Thank you so much for posting it. ;) My husband is also getting excited about groceries!

you are welcome - Amanda

If you decide to join the site, please put my email in as a referral so I can get a week free - amdahwd@comcast.net.

I am glad that you are saving money and see the benefits I did - I have always hated shopping for groceries, but it makes it almost fun to see how you can work it the best to save more money each time... I am actually disappointed because I have some coupons that might expire this month before I can get the most benefit from them.

I have so many groceries now that I think I can start buying only when I can get something 50% or more off and still not run out of anything before I can buy it again.

I also have toilet paper galore stocked up so that we can only buy it now when it is on sale (got 4 rolls of cottonelle this week for only 99 cents). My husband is very picky and only wants Northern, but the guest bathroom can have any kind and the kids use anything you give 'em, so I can buy whatever is on sale the best and make use of it...

keep me posted about how you are doing on your sales!

Saving Money With CouponsDec 06, 2009
Hey ladies - I have a new website that is a great help in saving money while using coupons.  It is called thegrocerygame.com.  It does cost a nominal fee after the first month, but I have found it so worth it.  I think it is about a dollar a week plus the cost of buying your newspapers weekly to get the coupons.  It really works good for you though. I had never used coupons until I was at my sister's last week and she had a closet full of stuff that she was st ...

What's Your Trick For Saving Money Now?Dec 21, 2009
Just wondering what each person is doing now to save money? I personally am still spending every penny I earn at the moment trying to pay bills - but, I have more to pay because I am clipping coupons and using them when things are on sale at a really cheap deal...  We have also started recycling plastic, paper, and cardboard as we pay by the pound to dispose of our garbage and recycleables are free if you separate them out yourself. Any more ideas? ...

More Money-Saving TipsOct 15, 2013
I had wanted to respond to money-saving ideas but didn't get to it until the post was way, way down the screen! I go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. These days, they're like regular shops. Everything is clean, not ripped or stained or anything. The ones by us have the racks color-coded---if you want a pink shirt, you go to the shirts and from there, the pink shirts are all in a row. If you need green pants, you go to where the pants are, and the green pants are all in a row. T ...

Talk About Saving Money On My Wedding...Oct 15, 2009
Well, yesterday we went downtown to get our license and our excitement got the best of us.  We ended up having the ceremony performed on the spot and walked out as husband and wife, lol!  Total cost was $79, as compared to the approximately $250 I had managed to shave it down to by having the wedding at our apartment. We've decided to use the October 31st date as our 'reception,' and instead of having the actual ceremony on that date, we're turning it into a cele ...

Where Do You Find Coupons?Jan 06, 2011
After reading posts about extreme couponing, i'm interested.  I've never bothered using coupons because I figured I would just use them to buy things I do not actully use nor need, just to save money.  I know you get them in newspapers, but you have to spend money for those.  Where are the free ones?  I get ads in the mail, but only price listings.  I would have to shop at three different grocery stores to get the full benefit of all the sales.  So, where ...

He's Just Saving Jobs By TheJun 23, 2017
I knew these jobs were going yet Trump promised they wouldn't.  Workers are feeling betrayed.  Carrier was even given a 7-million dollar incentive and they are still going.  I feel really bad for the people who elected this jerk and believed him, like the Carrier employees and the coal workers.  I also saw on the news today that Boeing is laying off a bunch of people.  Where are all these jobs he promised????????? ...

Republicans Are Saving MT!Jul 13, 2017
Isn't it wonderful that they are systematically going through the states that increased minimum wage so that the MT companies can continue to employ MTs in those states for slave wages.  We are so lucky to have the Republicans at the helm!  What an honor to do this job that used to pay $40,000-$50,000 a year, now for $8 an hour.  Woo-hoo!     ...

Men And MoneyJan 05, 2012
As a single women nearing 50, and having MANY male friends, there is one observation that just MUST be made. Men constantly complain that women are "only after (my) money," yet all of the men whom I know well who are even moderately "successful," whether married or single, have male friend(s) whom they fork money over to constantly.  Usually these take the form of "loans" that are NEVER actually repaid.  I don't know if my married buddies tell their wives about these "loans" or ...

Money Can't Buy EverythingMar 05, 2010

New MoneyOct 06, 2010
Why is this even being discussed (statement/not question).  I read the article and I don't like it.  The current crowd (progressives/socialists) gets in and all of a sudden there is talk of new currency (and on top of that the currency that does not look real, which I'm sure the uber-wealthy will not be giving up their "greenies", but the rest of the country will be made to use this new fad paper).  Maybe this has been talked about before, but it's the first I' ...

Fed Wants Their Money Back?Mar 31, 2011
By LIZ MOYER And DAVID BENOIT  from WSJ online. One of the biggest secrets of the financial crisis was disclosed Thursday when the Federal Reserve released thousands of pages of data showing heavy discount-window borrowing by foreign banks, regional U.S. banks and institutions fighting for survival. It was the first time the Fed has given details about banks that borrowed from the central bank's oldest emergency-lending facility. Thursday's move was forced by lawsuits filed by B ...

Asking Husband For Money.May 11, 2011
I don't know about you all, but I HATE having to ask my husband for money, for anything! I make enough money to cover my personal expenses and the household bills and he pays the mortgage, loan on the cars and his personal expenses.  We take turns buying the monthly groceries.  It comes out pretty even, the only differences is, he has left over money from his check and I  do not. I stopped asking years ago because he'd give me the "where did all your money go" with att ...

Why Does Money Have To Be Such An Issue?Jun 23, 2010
Even when it's not the lack of it, but more the equality in spending it. My DH gets very upset and defensive when I suggest to him that he has a whole lot more money in his checking account than I do in mine, yet I'm paying ALL the household expenses, all the vet bills, and ALL the remodeling expenses on the house. He'll make some lame excuse, and then he closes up, shuts down, and sulks. I have more than enough to live on, but that's not the point. I've decide ...

MOVE YOUR MONEY DAY! Do Yourself A HugeNov 05, 2011
I've been talking about it, and today I did it.  I took my money out of the big national bank I'd been with for over 20 years, Greed-of-America. The bank that had hidden fees up the wazoo.  The bank that charged me overdraft fees, even when I never overdrew my account. The bank that continually raised its minimum balance to a point where I was getting more money siphoned out of my account, even though I couldn't afford to put any more in, which is why I fell below the mi ...
