really dislike long posts....anyone else?

Posted: Mar 29, 2012

Some people on this forum are very long winded.  I may read two paragraphs, but after that I'm done.  Maybe I just don't have the time to sit and read a book on this forum and would rather read a real book or maybe it's just because I know that someone is going on and on to make a point that I don't agree with in the first place.

Oh, and those who don't separate their paragraphs are hard to read.  I don't even try.  Maybe I should be called a selective reader ;)

;

I don't mind so much if they are long, - but...

I won't read a long post without paragraph breaks. It makes me crazy. It's like one big blur without clarity.

Like typing, miss typing .... they are getting their typing ya-yas out. :) - nm - MTforNow

I enjoy them IF - They are interesting and well written

[ In Reply To ..]
I enjoy longer posts if they are genuinely well thought out and well written. If it's one gigantic paragraph full of typos and grammatical errors, my eyes glaze over and I move on. Not to be the spelling police, but ye gads...Some of the spellings in these posts is mortifying. I can excuse a typo but when someone spells "receive" as "recieve" 6 times in one post, that's no typo, that's how the poster thinks it's spelled and it frightens me on some level that MTs can commit such atrocious spelling errors in this field.

I also glaze over when a long post turns out to be a "poor me, I'm trapped here and have no choices in my own life." Sorry, we ALL have choices. I doubt MTSOs send goons out to hold a gun to someone's head to force them to work for them and no one else. Either be proactive and be doing something to improve your situation or I'm not going to invest my time reading your rant.

And...that's the end of *my* rant, LOL!

"I Enjoy them IF" - your post made me chuckle - see msg

I so agree with you on what you said below:

"when a long post turns out to be a "poor me, I'm trapped here and have no choices in my own life." Sorry, we ALL have choices. I doubt MTSOs send goons out to hold a gun to someone's head to force them to work for them and no one else."

That tickled me...I see that a lot here.

So don't read them. Nobody will notice. NM - Coder

I agree, but I just don't read them - Trampled underfoot

I'll read them if they're of medium length and have paragraph breaks. If they're interesting, I'll even read a long one, as long as they have paragraph breaks. But if I open something and it's a solid block of words, I close it and move on.

Been thinking about this post - since I first saw it

I don't really have a problem w/ a lengthy one as long as it provides informed information. Some of that stuff on the politics board just boggles my open-minded self.

Nothing wrong with long posts for me because - Henrietta Hermit

The person writing them is going through something serious in her life he/she would like opinions or advise on. Sometimes you can't help but write a long explanation. Sometimes you just need to get things off your mind and it doesn't always fall into something short. Sometimes it helps the person if they write long. As for grammar no paragraphs that doesn't bother me either because I figure maybe they are just trying to get it all down fast so they won't forget anything.

I too was thinking about this post earlier and I thought now people are going to be apologizing all the time if they write something long. Plus what do people determine as long.

So, no long posts don't bother me and people should not have to apologize for writing anything.

I typically skip the long posts. I like the ones that - are straight to the point.

I am first to admit to misspelling words. The - way I see it is

We type for a living and our job requires us to use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

When I am not working and typing emails to friends or posts on this board, I dont pay attention to it so much and just type. Perfect example, I just used the word "dont".

I know I have lots of typos when I post, but the way I see it, it's not like I'm working (contraction - it's).

See my point? I know it should be "it is" and dont should be "do not", but I dont care because I'm off the clock.

And yes, I know I'm should be "I am".

Hope I didn't confuse anyone. And no, I dont read long posts either.

(oops I started a sentence with a conjunction).

yeah, I don't care about typos or misspellings either - sm

I'm like you, I don't care about those things outside of work because we do have to pay so much attention to everything when working. I just can't stand the long, drawn out posts that end up saying the same thing over and over again. I'm just not that interested in reading that much. I'll grab a book if I want to read that much. ;)

Personally, I see lengthy and skip it. - nm

I love the long ones! When I see shorties, I wonder - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I wonder why the person didn't say more! It's like they leave half of it unsaid. It could have been so much more interesting!

Sometimes I wonder about the misspellings, but I think some people here aren't MTs. The coders, for instance, might not be as attuned to it. A lot of people post from mobile devices now, too. I think that's where all the missing letters go.

Does Anyone Want A Long (and I Mean Long!) History Lesson On Gridlock?Sep 12, 2012
I had seen an old newspaper article called "Gridlock shows signs of thawing" by Robert Novak back in 2011 so I've been mainly focusing on finding info on gridlock and the effects on lawmaking, Congress and the Presidents in the past few days.  I did compress the various articles I found, trying not to be partial to one side or the other. If you want to read it, I can post it tomorrow.   ...

Why I Dislike Leftists.Mar 13, 2010
I dislike leftists for one reason, and that is the fact that they are mostly liars. Ask a right-winger if he's a capitalist and he'll say "Damn right, I am!" Ask a left-winger if she's a socialist, and she'll never admit it. Instead, she'll launch into a trillion reasons why she's not a socialist. Yet, at every opportunity, you'll hear her railing against the capitalist system and telling you why government is the answer to everything, why government sh ...

Posts Regarding Religious DiscussionsSep 12, 2012
I recently took the action to move a post from this board to the faith board and wanted to explain why.  The post in itself was because someone does not agree with the mormon religion and she went on to post her opinions about a religion.  The content of the message was not political, except that it mentioned a politicians name, but nothing about politics itself.
