public school system cutbacks

What has your district cut back on? So far we have cut over 250 teachers and nearly 50 admin. jobs, extended the furlough days, cut 4 instructional days out of next school year, increased class size yet again, cut coaches supplements and completely cut out middle school sports for next school year. Elementary PE, music and art are also potentially on the chopping block.

[ In Reply To ..]We just got done building our 9th elementary school (opening Fall 2010) that will be entirely electronic - no schoolbooks, in a town of approximately 25,000. Just built a new Jr. high (2 total), and are expanding the high school. Classrooms are "okay size" (mine is in elementary). There are lots of school programs and activities. I'm not sure how other schools are but ours has a great PTO and volunteer group. I take off work many times during the year to help out at the school - this truly does make a difference. The PTO buys a lot of things for the schools/teachers, which I think is great.
I'm sorry, your district has cut back so severely. It's the kids who will end up suffering the most. :( Very sad.

[ In Reply To ..]sounds fantastic. Unfortunately we have been hit especially hard with foreclosures in my area, thus lowering the tax base and contributing to much of the school system's problems.
We are fortunate to have some really great teachers and parents, so hopefully things will turn around and actually improve in the future.

[ In Reply To ..]Florida is having big cuts. Very few substitute teachers. They even started it a few months ago when they first heard. Classes split to other teachers when a teacher is out. I think it is really really sad. If education is cut, how then, will the future grown ups get jobs and the spiral downwards. I just volunteered at the school when I found out subs were cut. I would like the extra money, but I figure my time spent for my child and his classmates will pay off for his future.
