So, in my social circle, I've seem some shakeup in the party system

Posted: Jan 13, 2016

Democrats supporting Trump, republicans supporting Sanders, and a few of both parities supporting Rand.  I'm personally behind Sanders.  I know some of his ideas are not doable.  At the same time, maybe he's the guy to at least get the ball rolling.  I'm not dumb enough to believe any politician is completely "real," however, I think Sanders is probably the most "honest" of both party candidates.  I've been paying attention to how he votes and to what he seems most passionate about.  I think he'd be just the guy to turn this country around.  After two failed terms on the part of Obama, I think Sanders would be a breath of fresh air.  This long-time republican would vote democrat if Sanders is the primary.

that many of us have become so disgusted with the party-system, that we have stopped belonging to any party, and have re-registered to vote as "No Preferred Party".

The party-system no longer works, and IMHO needs to be done away with completely. We should be voting for individuals, not party dogma.

That sounds like a vote for Bernie Sanders - nm

He had to run as one or the other or he would not have been viable. He caucused more with Democrats, so he is running as Democrat.

Sanders has been around a long time. What's he done? - Signature legislation he authored, for instance.

I already know the kinds of legislation he votes for (and against), but that isn't what I mean. What big thing can we call his signature piece of legislation?

There's lots of back-benchers.

He works tirelessly and is not one to toot his own horn. He is on many Senate committees and is committed to showing up and doing his job.

So you give me a campaign ad?? Even in that - I see nothing. "He fights for this or that&qu

This information goes way, way back. Very interesting. I agree with some of his stances but, and it's a BIG BUT, I do NOT agree with these:

• Voted NO on barring HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions. (Oct 2007)
• Voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions. (Apr 2005)
• Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime. (Feb 2004)
• Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother’s life. (Oct 2003)
• Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)
• Voted NO on barring transporting minors to get an abortion. (Jun 1999)
• Voted NO on protecting middle-income taxpayers from a national energy tax. (Apr 2009)
• Voted NO on requiring full Senate debate and vote on cap-and-trade. (Apr 2009)
• Voted YES on addressing CO2 emissions without considering India & China. (May 2008)
• 2009: Voted against closing Gitmo; 2015: supports closing it. (Sep 2015)
• Cut defense by $18B to pay for 55% of all college tuition. (Apr 2015)
•Comprehensive reform with no border fence & no guest workers. (Sep 2015)
• Secure borders without building a fence. (Sep 2015)
• Offer path to citizenship; waive deportation for DREAMers. (Apr 2015)

what will pay for four additional years of education for our children. Not hard to find the answer. I am pretty sure you already know the answer. How do you feel about a single-payer Medicare-for-all plan that would save every family thousands a year in premiums, deductibles and copays? What about equal pay for equal work? Are you against that too? Bernie Sanders wants to repeal Citizens United and get big money from corporations and foreign interests out of our politics. He is honest and has integrity, the only one with that attribute in the long list of candidates running. Get used to it, Bernie Sanders will be our next president.

calls Sanders a "practical and successful legislator." Throughout his career he has focused on the shrinking American middle class and the growing income and wealth gaps in the United States. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Sanders in 2014 passed legislation reforming the VA health care system. Congressional Quarterly said he was able “to bridge Washington’s toxic partisan divide and cut one of the most significant deals in years.” Today, Sanders remains on the veterans committee and was tapped by Senate leadership to be the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. He also serves on the Environment and Public Works Committee, where he has focused on global warming and rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure. He is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where he has championed efforts to transform our energy system from fossil fuels to renewable power sources like solar and wind. He also sits on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, where he has fought for greater access to affordable health care and improved education programs from pre-K to college.

This is just a litany of where he has been during his career - nothing about what he has actually done

I have been on many committees throughout my life and I know exactly how some of these people operate - once they have their name on the list of committee members, or better yet, listed as head of the committee - they have arrived - whether they actually do anything or not doesn't matter to them.
You might check his attendance records. They are pretty awe! - VTMT

I Wish The US Would Dump The Party System...Dec 22, 2010
Nothing ever gets done - all that ever happens on Capital Hill is the Dems and the Pubs fight, and try to derail each other's ideas, bills, etc.  There has just got to be a better way.  The elections need an overhaul, as well.  No sooner are politicians elected to office (in EITHER party!), than they're already campaigning for re-election.  Or for more of their party's seats in Congress.  Etc. etc.  No bill that is enacted ever stays up for long, it&# ...

Question: Why Do You Think Americans Are (generally) Willing To Accept A Two-party System?Jul 29, 2013
Here's the reason for my question:  The two-party system is, and has been corrupt for a long time. In a country where you can have a choice of about 35 different types of salad dressing but only two viable choices for the highest office in the land, I just find it is stunning that Americans are willing to stand for this. Answer how you will, but I am hoping the discussion goes past slamming any one president or party and more towards how we as a nation have largely been manipulated in ...

I hope with everything I have in me that the Tea Party does not represent the Republican Party. This is what the Tea Party stands for. They are full of vitriole and hatred. This is not what the Republican party stands for. Anyone Ever Tried That Hair Removal System No No?Jul 29, 2013
I believe it's called the No No???  It is a hair removal system that supposedly you can use for legs, underarms, and EVERYTHING.  Was wondering if anyone had used it and if it works and how long you are hair-free.  I did notice it had a buffing pad with it and I did try a removal system once where you basically and your legs down with what felt like sand paper to remove the hair, but it was VERY time consuming and I would just prefer a quick shave every couple of days as oppo ...

Fraud In Health Care SystemMar 13, 2010
It is estimated that there is at least 100 billion dollars health care fraud annually.  There are truly needy people and they should be helped.  But there are also many people who don't have health insurance because they just do not want to pay premiums, use their money for other things instead, when they could pay and are able to pay.  This is just not right and this needs to be stopped, and that should make a dent in health care costs.  Why not go after the health care ...
