I need some advice from my MT friends. My apologies in advance if you think this post is too long to read. My thanks to those who stick through it!!
Some background: My parents are elderly and. about 5 years ago, they moved into a retirement community. I bought the house and have been here since that time. Needless to say, the mail forwarding has since stopped for quite some time. This afternoon, I got an offer in the mail for a CitiBank credit card, but it was with my mother's name and my address (which is her old address). I'm so angry I could spit, but I'm trying to take some deep breaths and think of her options to get this sort of thing stopped.
The first thing that went though my mind was, "What if I wasn't living here?" This could have been easily intercepted by a thief, and they could have opened an account in her name and done a lot of damage before she even knew what hit her. Unlike me, I should probably mention that my parents have a credit rating of over 800 (almost unheard of, huh?). This was the one thing that I did not inherit from my parents - their money skills. LOL. Anyway, their credit rating is something that they have worked on their entire adult lives and they're very proud of it, but it scares me to death.
I had thought about buying something like LifeLock, but it's way too expensive for me (and them too). Any ideas or suggestions?
