credit card offer

Posted: Feb 1, 2011

I need some advice from my MT friends. Laughing My apologies in advance if you think this post is too long to read.  My thanks to those who stick through it!!

Some background:  My parents are elderly and. about 5 years ago, they moved into a retirement community.  I bought the house and have been here since that time.  Needless to say, the mail forwarding has since stopped for quite some time.  This afternoon, I got an offer in the mail for a CitiBank credit card, but it was with my mother's name and my address (which is her old address).  I'm so angry I could spit, but I'm trying to take some deep breaths and think of her options to get this sort of thing stopped.

The first thing that went though my mind was, "What if I wasn't living here?"  This could have been easily intercepted by a thief, and they could have opened an account in her name and done a lot of damage before she even knew what hit her.  Unlike me, I should probably mention that my parents have a credit rating of over 800 (almost unheard of, huh?).  This was the one thing that I did not inherit from my parents - their money skills.  LOL.  Anyway, their credit rating is something that they have worked on their entire adult lives and they're very proud of it, but it scares me to death.

I had thought about buying something like LifeLock, but it's way too expensive for me (and them too).  Any ideas or suggestions?

there is a way to opt-out. There was a number or website or something - sm

on one of my credit card offers and that is what I did as I was getting so many and I never do apply for them. I have 2 credit cards,a Sears just in case and a MasterCard (never use the Sears but nice just in case an appliance goes out of something like that). Two cards are enough for me, so that is what I did. You could probably find a number on site through the internet to opt-out of credit card mailings.

My Credit Card, His Credit Cards And The MoneyMay 10, 2014
I have a credit card that I had prior to marriage. My husband's name is not on it. I owe more than I should on the card and today my husband was asking about what if something should happen to me, would the credit card company be able to a) hold him responsible for my debt or b) put a lien against the home we both own for my debt. If anyone knows about this would love to have an answer. Thanks. ...

Credit Card TelemarketingMay 07, 2010
I have a Visa card through Bank of America and am receiving many calls with constant offers, etc. which would of course come with a monthly fee.  Last night again I received a call stating I am eligible for a $500 to $3,000 award from BOA.  They wanted my date of birth to send out information which I could refuse in 30 days if I called the number that would be listed.  Has anyone ever heard of this before?  I gave no information whatsoever and told the woman three times I am ...

Excessive Credit Card Fee'sJan 23, 2015
I am going to be calling my credit card (used to be Care Credit, now is Synchrony bank).  I am just wondering what y'all think. Excessive credit card interest charges.  I get my statements, pay my bills, a couple times late if I don't get paid on time.  No where in the statement did I see anything that would lead me to realize they were going to charge me this, and I didn't realize they did it for 2 months (my fault for not reading the statement closer) My payment ...

Credit Card Reform May Shock SomeFeb 22, 2010
Eileen Aj Connelly, AP Personal Finance Writer, On Sunday February 21, 2010, 2:29 pm EST NEW YORK (AP) -- Your next credit card statement is going to contain an ugly truth: how much that card really costs to use. Now, thanks to a long-awaited law that goes into effect Monday, you'll know that if you pay the minimum on a $3,000 balance with a 14 percent interest rate, it could take you 10 years to pay off. "Jaws will drop," said David Robertson, publisher of The Nilson Report, a newslet ...

Calls From Telemarketers About "your Xyz Credit Card Account"Apr 14, 2010
and answer their questions with the word "yes" (isn't it a great day today, is this Ms. so and so, etc.), you may find yourself signed up for some bogus credit protection plan or accident insurance on your next statement at a whopping monthly charge.  I just spent 4 months trying to get this removed from a couple cards I have and finally had to send registered letters to every address I could find in the papers I had from each company. DON'T SAY THE WORD "YES." I just had ano ...

Divorcing Too, Plan To Accept OfferAug 16, 2012
My husband of 32 years has announced he is moving on to other pastures and the next phase of his life without me.  Said he has bucket list things he wants to do which includes another relationship, though he says he hasn't found anyone yet (I have serious doubts about that).  Like everyone, we'd had our ups and downs through the years and I thought we'd worked through everything.  I planned to spend the rest of my life with this man.  I never really expected th ...

Bad Credit?Jun 22, 2011
Does anyone know of a good place to get an unsecured loan or credit card if you have poor to bad credit? With my job being cut beyond belief and my husbands overtime gone we are struggling a bit with bills. Things are getting paid, but not always on time. The biggest problem is one of our credit cards. We both have an account and both are 1-2 months behind in the payment they want. I have sent some money on the account, but not the full minimum amount due. I Can Not Take Credit For Writing This But I AmJul 23, 2010
I know that it will be followed by another silly tit-for-tat argument instead of some real, honest, self reflection, I am sorry to say.    I find it sadly humorous that a certain official increased the national debt from 5 Trillion to 11 Trillion dollars in 8 years, more than any administration, basically bankrupting the Treasury and adding a tax burden of gigantic proportions to future American citizens. I find it sadly humorous that during the grounding of all aircraft just after S ...

USA Credit Rating DowngradeAug 08, 2011
In case you're unclear why the USA credit rating has been downgraded, Here's an understandable explanation of our problem!     To most of the people this is addressed to, you already know that the USA is in trouble and you understand the magnitude of the problem.  However, this breakdown is so simple that it’s worth sending onto those in our address books who may not yet been able to put in perspective, just what is really going on.  B ...

Liberals Using Race CardMay 01, 2010

Debit Card Charges?Oct 05, 2011
