Bad Credit?

Posted: Jun 22, 2011

Does anyone know of a good place to get an unsecured loan or credit card if you have poor to bad credit? With my job being cut beyond belief and my husbands overtime gone we are struggling a bit with bills. Things are getting paid, but not always on time. The biggest problem is one of our credit cards. We both have an account and both are 1-2 months behind in the payment they want. I have sent some money on the account, but not the full minimum amount due. The problem is when I do pay on these credit cards they then lower the credit limit so that it is over the limit.  Then they tack on their over the limit fees and late fees and it never gets caught up. Dirty trick, but I guess they all do it from what I hear. Anyway, I would love to find a credit card I could transfer the balances to and start over or get a personal debt loan and pay off the credit cards and pay payments on the loan. I have been looking online, but thought I would come here and see if anyone has used a particular place that they are happy with.  Thanks for any info!

Bad credit/credit cards - TJ

I am really sorry you are struggling. I will tell you what I have done. A friend of mine is a CPA and he told me not to file bankrupcy. First of all, you usually cannot get those credit cards paid--they tell you one thing that they will do and then you can't do it, and it goes right back to where it was. What I did was I went to a credit counselor and they consolidated all my debts into one payment for all. That means my hospital bill, my anesthesia bill, my credit cards (2) went into one big kettle, and the consolidation company divides up the amounts to those different places and sends them the money. I pay twice a month and the calls have stopped, and I am seeing my debt go way down. I will have this paid off hopefully this Aug or September. This friend of mine who is a CPA said never never get with a credit company to strike a deal they lie and you end up where you were. High rates, etc. They want to keep you in that arena. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. Hope this helps. You can get credit counseling anywhere in your home or near by. Good luck.

your credit is already bad by not paying timely - so do this

Your payments are behind anyway, you cannot solve money problems with more money, so stop paying on the card that you owe more money to. Take all extra money you have and pay on the first one every month, on time, more than the minimum... dont care what you have to go without, just do it. Eat Ramen soup twice a week for dinner, till its paid. Then, pay off the other one after. They are going to keep calling you in the meantime. Tell them you are thinking of filing bankruptcy (which will buy you some time). After the first card is paid, call them and see if they will settle the debt for less. Take everthing you have extra and pay it.

You can do it without a counselor, you can do it without another loan. Just remember... you cannot solve money problems with money.

Do something extra every week, babysit for someone, clean someones house, pick up cans, pick up another job for a short time, and use that money only to pay those cards. If you clean one house a week for $20, that is $80 a month on that card, plus what you already pay!

YOU CAN DO IT... I CHALLENGE YOU!

You can't solve money problems with money??? - anon

I was agreeing with you until you made that statement. Don't you mean you can't solve money problems with more DEBT?

To the OP, google Dave Ramsey. He is a GREAT financial mind. He can help. You have to make a budget and stick to it. After years and years of stupid debt, my husband and I are almost debt free, finally have money and even are putting some away each month. Hallelujah.

Bad credit - Know all too well

I tried to get with one of those programs to help consolidate debt and I was told I had too much debt and not enough money to get on one...plus you have to be careful for the scammers. With the economy the way it is, banks are not giving out loans or credit cards unless you have stellar credit. I couldn't pay my cards so I let them go. After two or three months of not paying the cards, the credit card companies were willing to strike a deal with me...I got on a payment plan of which they lowered the interest to a fixed rate of 3.99% and 5.99%, they can no longer tack on late fees or over the limit fees, and they were willing to work with me on how much I could make the payment for and how I made it. Because I was on unemployment, I got a check every week and so they took the monthly payment, divided it by 4, and took that amount out of my bank account each week that my unemployment check would be in my account. You could try that :)

My Credit Card, His Credit Cards And The MoneyMay 10, 2014
I have a credit card that I had prior to marriage. My husband's name is not on it. I owe more than I should on the card and today my husband was asking about what if something should happen to me, would the credit card company be able to a) hold him responsible for my debt or b) put a lien against the home we both own for my debt. If anyone knows about this would love to have an answer. Thanks. ...

I Can Not Take Credit For Writing This But I AmJul 23, 2010
I know that it will be followed by another silly tit-for-tat argument instead of some real, honest, self reflection, I am sorry to say.    I find it sadly humorous that a certain official increased the national debt from 5 Trillion to 11 Trillion dollars in 8 years, more than any administration, basically bankrupting the Treasury and adding a tax burden of gigantic proportions to future American citizens. I find it sadly humorous that during the grounding of all aircraft just after S ...

I need some advice from my MT friends.  My apologies in advance if you think this post is too long to read.  My thanks to those who stick through it!! USA Credit Rating DowngradeAug 08, 2011
In case you're unclear why the USA credit rating has been downgraded, Here's an understandable explanation of our problem!     To most of the people this is addressed to, you already know that the USA is in trouble and you understand the magnitude of the problem.  However, this breakdown is so simple that it’s worth sending onto those in our address books who may not yet been able to put in perspective, just what is really going on.  B ...

Credit Card TelemarketingMay 07, 2010
I have a Visa card through Bank of America and am receiving many calls with constant offers, etc. which would of course come with a monthly fee.  Last night again I received a call stating I am eligible for a $500 to $3,000 award from BOA.  They wanted my date of birth to send out information which I could refuse in 30 days if I called the number that would be listed.  Has anyone ever heard of this before?  I gave no information whatsoever and told the woman three times I am ...

Check Your Credit CardsFeb 24, 2013
If you've gotten a new credit card recently, it may have an RFID chip embedded in it. It will have ))))) printed on it. I think Chase cards are using it, but others will follow. Fitch Already Put US Credit Rating Oct 15, 2013
Fitch is in the "Big 3" global credit rating agencies alongside Moody's and S&P, who all downgraded US credit rating the first time in history from AAA to AA+ the last time TPs took us to the brink.  It was only recently fully restored to AAA on July 13, 2013.  This came on the heels for calls by global financiers to De-Americanize the global economy.   Hey, all you TPs who own or are buying your homes or whose retirments savings and 401Ks are tied to the stock market. & ...

Excessive Credit Card Fee'sJan 23, 2015
I am going to be calling my credit card (used to be Care Credit, now is Synchrony bank).  I am just wondering what y'all think. Excessive credit card interest charges.  I get my statements, pay my bills, a couple times late if I don't get paid on time.  No where in the statement did I see anything that would lead me to realize they were going to charge me this, and I didn't realize they did it for 2 months (my fault for not reading the statement closer) My payment ...

Eileen Aj Connelly, AP Personal Finance Writer, On Sunday February 21, 2010, 2:29 pm EST NEW YORK (AP) -- Your next credit card statement is going to contain an ugly truth: how much that card really costs to use. Now, thanks to a long-awaited law that goes into effect Monday, you'll know that if you pay the minimum on a $3,000 balance with a 14 percent interest rate, it could take you 10 years to pay off. $3000 TAX CREDIT TO HIRE ILLEGALSFeb 22, 2015
Too bad the defense of Koskinen was a waste of time for Libs. Thee is a $3000 tax credit, to hire illegals.  Too bad your attempt at spin and indignation was not based on any FACTS!!   "Under the president’s new amnesty, businesses will have a $3,000-per-employee incentive to hire illegal immigrants over native-born workers because of a quirk of Obamacare. Does it bother you at all if they say they cannot pay anything back yet when they seem to be running out spending money left and right on random stuff while that interest on that card starts going up. President Obama Took Credit In 2012 For Withdrawing The TroopsJun 21, 2014
The last two paragraphs are the most interesting. This is why Obama may go down in history as a liar-in-chief. This just proves how he is so incompetent. Too bad the double standard only works for Democrats and too bad the Democrats can't see truth even when it hits them on the head. President Obama took credit in 2012 for withdrawing all troops from Iraq. Today he said something different. Justice Dept. Is Suing S&P - Retaliation For Downgrading Our Credit Rating?Feb 05, 2013
I think it's vindictiveness on Holder's part because of our credit downgrade last year. Read the whole article. i only posted the beginning. The article is very long.   Was S&P supposed to use a crystal ball?  I think this is a sham, just like some of the other suits brought by this agency.
