What is the life span of a crockpot

I have a crockpot, but last time I used it was around 2004. It's been boxed up in moves. Do crockpots have a life span? or do you think it's okay to use. It's not damaged, just unsure whether to use it.

and so you don't waste any actual food. Plug it in for a couple of hours to see if the water gets hot. It should be fine, though. Those things are designed to last a long time.

They are pretty simple gadgets. Agree with the above poster ...just put some water in it and see if it still heats. Maybe check the temp with a kitchen thermometer.

Well the cobbler posted below for one thing. :-)

I also used to get a cut of beef called a tri tip. I would put that in the pot, cover with water, add a bag of french onion soup and slow cook all day. Then shred the beef and make beef burritos. Oh they were soooo good.

I'd also like to try home made meatballs and so many other things. I think with a slow cooker you can't really go wrong. Except one time I did. I made a recipe called Orange chicken. My husband came home during his lunch and took one wiff and said "you are not going to feed that to my grandmother". LOL.

I have cooked oatmeal in my crockpot for several years now. My family did not care for the texture when done directly in the crockpot (too gluey) but when done in a water bath method, the texture was much better. We would use a large glass or ceramic bowl (or the insert from my rice cooker), add the ingredients to that, put the bowl in the crockpot and put water at least half way up the bowl. Much better texture wise. We also use steel cut oats for it. Sometime look up gingerbread oatmeal for the crockpot, very good!

The lifespan of my crockpots are generally until the crock gets banged one too many times and breaks, roughly every 10-15 years...

Why do the Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee insist on wasting time by making speeches?
