What Would It Take To Be 100% Content With Life?
Posted: Aug 31, 2011
In every possible way?
Personally for me this would involved many things that do not exist in this world.
;
I don't believe any one person can be 100% content with life - sm

It's human nature to want something, to want better, to seek new.
for me, 100% contentment would be - sm

My girls "finally getting it" and not having to worry about money ever again.
However, money is the root of all evil, so maybe it would be an "evil contentment?"
Wow, what an intriguing question! (s/m) - Meerkat

I would tend to agree with the poster above, who said it's not human nature to be content with what one has. I think wanting and seeking better is part of our DNA.
STILL! It's also partly a mindset (one that I seem to be lacking too often currently, as I worry constantly about never having any money.) I try to find one or two things each day that I'm content with, and try to block out the negatives, though admittedly, sometimes it's nearly impossible to do. Today I'm content with where I live. I love my tiny apartment, I love my view, and I have great neighbors. It's quiet here, something I value greatly.
Right now, what I BELIEVE would make me pretty close to perfectly content, would be a standard 40-hour-a-week job, close enough to home that I wouldn't spend all my free time in a car on the freeway, where I earned enough money to be comfortable. By "comfortable", I mean able to pay the rent and other bills, pay down my Mastercard to zero again someday, and not think the world is coming to an end if an unexpected expense pops up, such as car repair, or a vet bill. It would mean being able to once again have a savings account, and maybe even add some money occasionally to my 401K, so that I wouldn't have to worry so much about how dire my future as a senior citizen is likely to be.
I would be VERY content if I could use my computer the way it was intended to be used: to find things on the Internet, or do my work, or read my email, or do Facebook, WITHOUT having continual, never-ending, pop-ups, worms, viruses, and all those fake "upgrade now!" scams that even when ignored, or firewalled up the wazoo, still manage to gradually destroy your computer, even when you do everything you can to keep it clean, safe, and virus-free.
I'm starting to get to an age where I agree with the "longer life" the other poster below mentioned. I guess when you hit your late 50s, you suddenly wake up one day and realize it's not going to last forever, like you thought it would when you were 25! Suddenly, life is finite, and has an expiration date. And you start realizing that, unlike what you'd originally thought back in your 20s, you are NOT going to get to do or see everything you had hoped to during your lifetime. There just isn't enough time. Unfortunately, there's no way to change the inevitable, so I try to get back to that Pollyanna-ish thing of trying to be glad for just 1 or 2 things or situations that I have NOW. I also try to compare a situation that I perceive as bad (such as my job situation right now!), to someone who's got it much worse.
My car is old, but it RUNS. And many people don't have cars.
My knee hurts sometimes going down stairs, but at least it's still the "original equipment", it works, and I still have a knee to feel. Some folks don't.
I'm definitely not content with the lines appearing on my face, or my inability to afford to do anything about it. Still, look at that poor woman who was attacked by that chimpanzee. Some people don't even have faces.
So, for now, even though I'm very DISCONTENTED with my job and my pay, and as hard as it is to stay positive (I can be a pretty negative person), I try to hold on to the belief that someday I'll find a better job, or a way to supplement my income so that life is a little bit more comfortable, which would make me a lot more CONTENTED!
Not many can be truly content, but I would be - sm - Zorro

quite happy to be debt free, with plenty (a gross excess) of money in the bank, happy and heathly kids who are honest, fair, hard working, etc. I'd love to stop doing MT and get back to where my DHs income took care of all and I could go back to doing craft shows selling jewelry as I used to do and maybe get it silk painting or weaving with a floor loom. Whenever there is the big mega millions or powerball I play and play the fantasy game of "what if", it is fun as I don't truly expect it to happen.
I do plan to get a floor loom one day....but probably be another 20 years in my retirement years. Have a tabletop loom now which I have not used in a long time. Love weaving and really want to get back into that and also try pottery. But all that is on the back burner until the bills are all paid, another 3-4 years then I can get back into my hobbies and hopefully do something I love and make money at at the same time, now that would be true contentment!
A right relationship with Jesus Christ!!! True contentment. - nm

Good question - my 100% would be - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
This is what it would take for me to be perfectly happy 100% content.
1. I lived near family and could do things with my sister, brothers, mother, father, etc. Just being able to have my dad over for a home cooked meal I made or having everyone over for Thanksgiving or another holiday.
2. Either of these choices. a. - I had a job that was really important to a lot of people and paid really well. or b. - I was married to a person who was very well off financially wise.
3. I had a house with enough land to let my cats roam free and watch them play.
4. I was closer to my childhood friends so we could do things together.
And lastly, my hair would grow back and the balding spots would finally go away and I'd get back the locks and softness of my youthful hair I once had.
I'm not 100% sure I would want to achieve that - MTinMT

strange as it may sound to some. But I could be quite content if I can just continue becoming more spiritually enlightened as time goes on. It seems to be a never ending journey, but that's ok.
To be at one hundred percent for me - sm

would require no worry of anything going wrong with where you live, with your health, with the people you care about, with money etc... basically it would require things that just do not exist in this world. I doubt anything can really reach one hundred percent here.
Not sure I would want 100% perfect - Linda
[ In Reply To ..]
because that leaves us with nothing to strive for, and then it would be really boring.
As it is, probably if - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I could lose weight and get into shape. And if my DH could work less. (we both would like that very much) And if we could get this house completely finished.
Now in my fantasy world....I want to be rich.
But I learned a long time ago to be happy with what I have. Only I can make myself happy. A person can not look to others or to things for happiness/contentment...that comes from within.
I do believe we need things to look forward to - it's real

at the same time I just want to know things, and than enjoy what that knowledge or skill can do. Someone said they would not want to know all of one subject because it would take away the joy of learning it. Personally learning it is done because that is the only method, it is slow not all that fun, non efficient and would gladly bypass that process to get to the point and joy of said skill and or knowledge. Not about being lazy just that there is so much to learn and it takes so much time.
The above used as an example.
So for being content living in a way that is basically perfect would allow myself to feel relaxed and free, no worries would be amazing. Would do anything.
too, too funny... content equals stagnant - XanaX

I've always said to be content would be to become stagnant. I hope I am never content. Life is about the journey, not the destination, IMHO...

Contentment equals complacency...I hope I'm never 100% satisfied - AnaPhylaxis
[ In Reply To ..]
If one were to be 100% fulfilled on every level, there would be no strive to improve anything; thus, one would become complacent and risk jeopardizing everything one HAS accomplished, IMO.
I hope I never becomes 100% content/complacent. I hope to always have a new goal to attain up until I draw my last breath.

If I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that after this life, I would still always be with my loved ones, I would be 100% happy and contented.
And always have chocolate, good wine, tequila, and all my pets would also be with me always, that would pretty much be it.

Oh, and if I could be a little less selfish, that would probably be good. I note I didn't say anything about world hunger, etc. hmmmm. What was that comment about IQs?

For me it would be to see the world a kinder, gentler place with no wars, no famine, no hatred, just a world where everyone helped each other and were kind and loving. In other words, utopia. That would bring me peace and joy.

There has always been an unusually strong communication with animals for me. When we lost our other dogs (We still have little Tiny), I literally missed the smell of their ears, the expression from their eyes, and all the similarities and differences in each of them. They have filled my heart with love and appreciation. They are all on this earth for a reason, each and every species. I find it difficult to express how I feel. Thank you for your kind reply.
You've expressed it perfectly and... - sm

My kids were all taught that animals are a valued, beloved part of our family and should always be treated with kindness. They love unconditionally and that is the epitome of goodness. (Restores one's faith in humanity to read compassionate posts from a caring person like Christine :)

God bless you for teaching your children to respect animals. I admire you for doing so. I thank God every day for the capacity to love them so deeply that he has given me. It has brought me through more than I can say. They are more precious than gold.

A Day In The Life Of A LiberalJul 25, 2012
Your day as a liberal begins at the crack of dawn with early morning yoga followed by a quick bite of dried seaweed breakfast before hitting the road to attend your latest "peaceful demonstration." On your way home, you're sure to stop and hug a few trees before jumping back on your 100% smog-free bicycle (complete with the "I break from beached whales" sticker). After a delicious lunch of tofu and egg beaters, you must pause to meditate, worship mother earth, and re-contemplate the ef ...

Life Is GrandMay 10, 2017Former President Barack Obama traveled to Italy this week to make a speech on climate change at the “Seed & Chips: The Global Food Innovation Summit” in the city of Milan.
It seems like Obama has taken a page out of Leonardo DiCaprio's book of “do as I say, not as I do” and took a private jet to Milan. Not only that, he had a 14 car convoy to get into the city, which also included protection from above with a helicopter.
