George Z and life lessons for all

Posted: Jul 14, 2013

No matter what I think of the verdict, I think there are some new realities for many. George will spend the rest of his life with social rejection by some, and perhaps be profiled regarding his future behavior. He may even one night be walking somewhere and fear someone walking behind him. How will he know if that person wishes him harm or is just someone walking in the same direction? If he ever has to "stand his ground" again, this case, even though he was found not guilty, will not be in his favor in the future. I would like to believe that somewhere behind the stoic appearance he maintained in court, he has the remorse of taking another's life for any reason. I think this case will also change the view (both by the public and the volunteers) of the neighborhood watch and how they "watch" their neighborhoods. I also think this case shows the potential risk of carrying a gun at all times, it is extremely plausible that had George been unarmed the police and/or neighbors would have, in short time, stopped the fight without serious injury of death to either George or Trayvon. We have nothing to help the Martins but our condolences, there is no way to compensate for their unfortunate and painful loss. ;

My opinion on Zimmerman verdict - Life lesson?

[ In Reply To ..]
The lesson I picked up from the verdict is this will encourage more racism, hate and killing. More people will arm themselves to protect themselves against the George Zimmermans out there and neither should own a gun. The gun itself gives a person courage when they should allow trained people to take care of a dangerous situation. Zimmerman can continue his vigilante work, carry a gun and mistake someone else who isn't walking the way Zimmerman thinks they should be walking, follow them and shoot them, then claim self-defense.

Another lesson I learned is our justice system sucks. It's a matter of which attorney is the trickiest and can spin a better story. This was not a search for truth. I think people on juries carry personal prejudices and the 6 women on the jury let emotions and private feelings enter into their verdict. I would prefer professional jurists or judges to decide cases and not random people who have varying IQs, knowledge and life experience.

Bottom line, knowing there is a George Zimmerman walking the streets of Florida as well as Casey Anthony and the crazy jurists who decided they are not guilty I am boycotting all things Florida. I will miss Disney which I visited yearly, but the odds of running into a Zimmerman or someone encouraged by the not guilty verdict who is like Zimmerman scares the bejeebers out of me. It's a long hot summer and not sure if things will erupt. We will see.

As far as the Martin/Fulton family, they not only lost their son but Robert Zimmerman Jr continues on today giving interviews maligning their dead son's name and the jurors have held their son responsible for his own death by their verdict.

This whole thing sickens me. It is surreal what happened, like it was when a lying Casey Anthony was found not guilty but it is reality. Considering all things Zimmerman, racism is alive and well and will continue to divide people after this verdict.

I am hoping Zimmerman's karma will catch up with him. He already looks dreadfully unhealthy, mentally and physically and now that he is free he may run into someone just like himself, armed and a wannabe cop who thinks he looks suspicious. No way for Zimmerman to hide now that he has become morbidly obese and people have seen him daily on national TV. Easy to spot and an easy target if there is an armed looney who wants to get "justice' for Trayvon on their own since the court failed to do it.

How can you say the 6 women let their emotions and private feelings - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
enter into their verdict? They were all women and all mothers. If they let their emotions enter into the verdict, don't you think they would have found him guilty of one of the charges?

It was a fair jury. They listened to both sides. They made hundreds of notes. They asked for the evidence lists and went over them, and they discussed and debated the charges.

The outcome might have been different if the 2nd degree manslaughter was worded differently, but that's the way the law reads. There was no way they could find GZ guilty of manslaughter due to the language and legal description in that law.

They even asked questions on the definition of the manslaughter law, which they received. So, the jury did their job and it was a fair decision.

Jury members - jm

[ In Reply To ..]
You would have to be subhuman not to let your life experience and your emotion get into your decisions. Maybe they have had bad experiences with black teens. Maybe they believed Martin attacked Zimmerman, in spite of there being no DNA or blood from Zimmermans bloody head or nose on Martin's oversized hoody or sweatshirt underneath it. How do you smother someone and not get his DNA/blood on your sleeves or cuffs? How do you bash someone's baldish head into cement and not get DNA under your nails?

Nothing makes sense in Zimmerman's story, from beginning to end.

But I do believe Zimmerman will end up a disaster even if he is free. What goes around comes around. Not sure if it will be ill-health from his obesity or someone will take the law into their own hands and pull a Zimmerman on George. No good will come to Zimmerman that is for sure.
TM was not trying to smother GZ. Where did you get that idea? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
It was raining that night, too. There was testimony that there was no DNA on TM because it washed away.

Evidently, you don't believe the prosecutor or defense attorneys had the where with all to chose fair jurors. I find that difficult to believe. Were you ever on a jury? It can be tough. Some questions are purposely made to inflame the person being questioned.
Logic - jm
[ In Reply To ..]
Did you see the reenactment video the next day where Zimmerman does a walk through and tells officers Trayvon was smothering him, had his hand over his mouth? Did you hear the closing arguments where this was mentioned? The reenactment video was also introduced into court where Zimmerman claims Trayvon had his hand over his mouth and he could not breathe.

Regarding rain washing DNA from underneath your fingernails. I have been working in the garden, weeding. I have dirt under my nails. No amount of rain will extract that dirt from UNDER my nails. It will take a nail brush and soap. (I need to get gardening gloves.) It is the same thing with trying to grasp a bald head. The DNA would get UNDER the nails from grasping the scalp and no rain is going to be able to creep up under the nails and wash it away. No rain gets blood stains from your clothes either. But you know that.

The jury is the luck of the draw. Two woman made it to the jury that the prosecution did not want but they were powerless and the judge let them in. Not sure what the legal basis for this was.

Each side gets a certain number of peremptory challenges to dismiss a prospective juror "just because". I'm not sure what the number is in a manslaughter trial.

Amazing! Zimmerman supporters do not know FACTS - Zimmerman is GUILTY
[ In Reply To ..]
People who did not follow the case and spout support for Zimmerman do not even know the basics. He clearly said he was being smothered with Trayvon's hand over his mouth and nose. If what Zimmerman said was true, there would be no way Trayvon could not have gotten blood stains on his sleeves and cuffs of an over-sized hoodie. Preposterous that people go on Zimmerman camp sound bites and spout them as if they are true.

There is a bigger picture here to prove Zimmerman is a liar. His supporters should take the time to review the evidence or go to youtube and look at the trial videos.
Zimmerman supporters are well aware of the facts - as much as Martin supporters
[ In Reply To ..]
For you to come on and say that Zimmerman supporters do not know the facts is wrong. There is a lot of information that you and I and others were not able to see or read. Did you read every single police report, every single witness report. No you did not, so you don't know. You have your opinion that is based on bogus information put out by the press to lynch Zimmerman.

Here's my stand on this issue. Zimmerman killed a boy. That's a fact. It doesn't matter who is lying or not lying. A boy is dead because of Zimmerman. If he was a white boy or a boy from the Pacific, China, Mexico, Europe or any other country it would make no difference. They boy is dead because Zimmerman shot him. Zimmerman should serve some time for the death of a human being. Martin was not just a black man. He was a human being. He had his whole life ahead of him. Maybe he would have been into gangs, but maybe he might have ended up being a teacher or scientist or whatever. He didn't deserve to die. But you cannot throw a man in jail for something he did not do. They were not charging him with his death, they were going after him mostly for racial profiling (which he did not do, and they were making a case that Zimmerman went after him, which he did not do). The prosecutor was stupid and should have gone after GZ with charges that would have found him guilty, accidental death of a human being. And with that said, Martin is the one who came back and went after Zimmerman. Not the other way around. The jury is the one who has read all the reports, the witnesses. They are the ones who had to see all the details of the case. Not you. Zimmerman supporters have as much right to their opinions as do Martin supporters. For you to say the side you are against don't know the facts, well guess what...neither do you.
It is OBVIOUS the Zimmerman supported did not know FACTS - about Zimmerman claiming to be smothered.
[ In Reply To ..]
The poster thought someone was making it up that Zimmerman was being smothered by Trayvon when it was part of evidence. That plays into the FACT that there was no Zimmerman blood on Trayvon's hoodie sleeves which would be impossible if Trayvon was smothering Zimmerman. It is part of the lie. It is important evidence. If you do not know all of the evidence you cannot justifiably come to a conclusion.

So given that Zimmerman CLAIMED Trayvon tried to smother him with his hand over Zimmerman's mouth and nose, how did he manage to do this without getting blood on his clothes, particularly his sleeves and cuffs.

If in doubt of Zimmerman's claim of being smothered by Trayvon, see video of this evidence on youtube.

If you do not have the full picture of the evidence, do not comment. I have followed this trial from beginning to end watching streaming video of the trial and what I wanted to review I could see on youtube. There is no PROOF Trayvon Martin came back to attack Zimmerman. All you have is a proven liar's word for that. (Remember Zimmerman and wife plotting to hide money from the court on prison phone tapes? Or remember the Hannity interview where Zimmerman said Trayvon was not running as he had previously told the dispatcher, Trayvon, this suspicious teen was SKIPPING). Zimmerman and his wife are both liars and that is FACT.
STOP YELLING!!!! - You don't know
[ In Reply To ..]
There's more to this case than any of us know. You are making assumptions on bogus information. Were you a jury member? Did you see every piece of evidence? No you did not.

Please calm down your emotions. Cases are not supposed to be based on emotion, but only facts. Evidently there was not enough evidence to convict Zimmerman.

Don't worry though Zimmerman is not safe. You can sleep easy now.
Yelling is when the whole statement is capped. - (like you did)

he/she took one item (smothering) and then claimed that all Zimmerman supporters know nothing about the case.

I'll just say this and then I'll end it. A human being was killed and its tragic. For the death of a man he should serve time. Not because the man was 17 or not because the man was black. He should serve time because he took the life of another human being. The penalty should not be any more or less severe because Trayvon was a black man. That then elevates black men over others and that is not the way it should be. Trayvon Martin is no more or less important than say that 18 month old baby that was shot in the face in his stroller while his mother was walking him.

ALL deaths are tragic. One is no more important than another. People should be treated equal.

just like the Casey Anthony case I'm not happy bout the outcome, but since none of us were there, none of us read all the reports, heard all the testimony, saw all the evidence none of us know. I have to believe the jurors upheld the law and based their decisions on facts and not emotion.
Facts are in sunshine state of Florida - evidence is an open book

The jury did not see anything the public did not see and the testimony was there for everyone to see. If you missed anything, you can review it on youtube. Everything the jury saw is there for your review.

If you really want nausea, think about what Zimmerman did, murdering a kid who he deemed was suspicious and the reverberations felt by Zimmerman's family and Martin's family. Think about the obese liar who lacks self-control and plotted to hide racist money from his Paypal account with his LYING wife on recorded prison tapes. Think about how he has NO REGRETS and considered his murder of Trayvon as part of God's plan. Blech. He is a big fat murdering slob and I do not care what happens to him. I'm with you on most of your post but if GZ would not have been armed - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe he might have died. Concrete is pretty hard and the skull, though mostly bone, is not tough as steel. The way it is now, GZ will be looking over his shoulder for years to come, especially since the New Black Panther Party put a bounty on his head last year.

Why didn't a neighbor go out and help the one calling for help? It was dark and no one knew what was happening, but the main reason is because they didn't want to get involved.

Both families have been through the wringer, so to speak, and both sets of parents have held great restraint in this matter. I doubt I would have been able to sit through something like that so calmly. Hopefully, the healing and closure can now begin.

Answers to questions. - IMO

[ In Reply To ..]
If Zimmerman had not been armed he would not have followed. So the gun gave him a sense of security. Had not Zimmerman followed there would have been no altercation.

As far as concrete "bashing", as an MT you know those 2 small lacerations (not even deep enough to require sutures) do not equal getting your head beat into cement. And if you really felt your life was in danger from your head being beat into cement, why would you not be checked for internal injuries at the hospital by a physician and further testing. I think the head being beat into cement was a bogus story to justify the shooting/murder.

The neighbors did not want to get hurt by intervening in a fight. People are packing heat in Florida so why risk going out to break up a fight where you may become the victim? They called 911 like I would have. No way would I try to break up a fight nor allowed any people in my household do so.

I don't think healing and closure (hate that word) will come to anyone involved because of the verdict. Lots of anger and resentment and Zimmerman is never going to be free, not because of Black Panthers stupid bounty who have not been heard from for a year, but his conscience (look at the dark circles) and worry about other people who despise him and would like to see him get his own brand of vigilante justice. No rest or peace for the wicked. My aunt had this phrase for someone who had done her wrong and I love it and it applies to Zimmerman. "Time wounds all heels." Time is what is going to do in Zimmerman and justifiably so. His bad decisions have caused a lot of irreversible pain for a lot of people. I think deep down even Zimmerman's parents know he was wrong.

I am part of a neighborhood watch program. If I see suspicious behavior in the vicinity where I live I am to call and report. I am not to FOLLOW anyone and I am not to be Armed. My job is over once I report suspicious activity and I am DISCOURAGED to "keep a person in eye view" until police get there. I am not to endanger myself by FOLLOWING a suspicious person and that is definitely not part of neighborhood watch program.

[ In Reply To ..]
Patrol members should be trained by law enforcement. It should be emphasized to members that they do not possess police powers and they shall not carry weapons or pursue vehicles. They should also be cautioned to alert police or deputies when encountering strange activity. Members should never confront suspicious persons who could be armed and dangerous. Patrol members can be equipped for their duties. For example, flashlights or searchlights are necessary for night patrols. Many mobile patrols use cell phones or two-way radios to contact a citizen-manned base station, which in turn contacts law enforcement officials when necessary. Remember your partnerships and ask for donations from local businesses.

By the time the cops got there Mr. Zimmerman would be dead and the little gangsta would be walking free and never had to go through a trial. Mr. Zimmermans parents would not have their son and his wife her husband.
In denial much? - Zimmerman is a LIAR
[ In Reply To ..]
Zimmerman would not be dead. Trayvon had no idea who he was and had no reason to want to attack this PIG. Trayvon was hoping to get home to watch the basketball game. Zimmerman is a fat ugly PIG who had nothing to do but troll the neighborhood on a rainy night. He probably did not want to spend time with his ugly obese wife so he made an excuse to get out of the house. She is a lying PIG also who is facing PERJURY charges.

Zimmerman's parents are liars too but if you look closely they know they raised a liar. His mother looks like she would like to beat him down like she did when he was a child (according to his best friend's book) and his father looks disgusted and out of it, slightly embarrassed to be George's father and rightfully so. Zimmerman's parents did not attend his wedding and he was estranged from his family. (Maybe it was because he molested his cousin?) Dysfunction is the name of the Zimmerman family. Ugly people raised a piece of crazy who murdered another human being.

Deal with it. Zimmerman is in the same class as Casey Anthony and will be in hiding for the rest of his life, difference being his obesity is going to be hard to disguise. Read his friend's book, aptly titled "The Most Hated Man in America". His days are numbered. His self-indulgent obesity or an armed vigilante like Zimmerman will be the end of this fat slob.

He MURDERED a kid armed with Skittles and a cold drink. Zimmerman will get what is due him very soon. He is an obscene morbidly obese liar who clearly has no self-control or brain as does his obscene obese wife who has a perjury charge to prove she is a liar. They are ignorant ugly trash.

A gun and perhaps a beer and prescribed drugs gives certain people bravery and poor judgement. That is why I am boycotting Florida with the likes of Zimmerman allowed to carry guns and if he shoots you claim self-defense.

Zimmerman has a prior history of violence when attacking ATF officers. He was sent to Anger Management classes. Zimmerman had a restraining order against him. He took prescription psych drugs.

Yet he was given a gun permit. No way am I going to visit Florida with nutcakes like Zimmerman there and wannabe Zimmerman's who know they can get away with murder.

Life lessons. I agree with some of what you say - and I agree with Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
Zimmerman's life will never be the same, however long that will be as the threats have already come out.

I would think that the lesson for all would be not to jump to conclusions, not to let your hatred, fear enter into a case, but base a case on facts presented, but unfortunately many cannot do that.

I would have hoped that parties that have nothing to do with this would have not gotten involved (Prez & DOJ), but they did even though they had no facts about it. They are the sole reason this became a race/hate case. They provoked it. I knew the motivation behind this was for gun control and nothing else (why waste a good crisis after all).

But if GZ had not been carrying protection he would have died. His call was either save myself or die. He chose to live. He could not get the kid off of him, what would anyone have done in his case. Most likely the same thing. Purpose in life is to stay alive. If your getting your head repeatedly hit on the concrete, well, we know/remember what happened to Reginald Denny.

It is with deep sadness that someone died. The case was an open and closed case of self defense. Nothing more. But the racial tensions needed to be exploited and hence we have people who knew nothing about what happened turned it into just that.

In the future maybe cases should remain within the district they happen. Don't turn it something into it's not and the media needs to back off and stop inflaming emotions by putting out false information.

I detected a hostility/arrogance in Zimmerman. I'd like to think he will show humility after this experience, but I won't be surprised if he does not. As for Florida and its regressive laws - I am just so glad I left that state behind several years ago. The ironic thing is that Martin was standing HIS GROUND too - his right to walk home unharrassed - but HE didn't stand his ground with a lethal weapon - ONLY GZ did that.

At the end of the day a 29-year old MAN takes the life of a 17-year old boy, and so far remorse for his actions is no where to be seen.

AND THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE SHOULD hang its collective head in shame for passing laws which protect and perhaps even encourage vigilantism.

4 minutes of silence the jury listened to, so they knew how long it was - that kid could have been home by then, but he hung around, and waited to attack Zimmerman. This is a Catch-22, nobody wins but everyone loses. Had this been a white kid killed, nobody would bat an eyelash. Beyond ridiculous reasoning. That is what I have come to expect from Trayvon supporters.

Let's talk about the race card - So sick

[ In Reply To ..]
For all of you obviously non-black posters on here who are sick of the race card being played. Maybe it's time you walked in our shoes before you judge.

I have two African American sons. Both honors students, college students, athletes, and have never, EVER been in any kind of trouble with the law. One of my sons wears dreads. He has been stopped by the police twice for now reason. Once, he went to pick his little sister up from work at a strip mall. He sat on a bench for all of 5 MINUTES before the police came by and asked him what he was doing. Another time, he was sitting in a Subway waiting on a friend to order food. This same dread-wearing son, has been asked by white strangers if he has marijuana on multiple occasions. Now, before you want to complain about the race card being played, ask yourself if your son is subjected to the same kind of treatment?
I am caucasian. - Race is an issue in Zimmerman case
[ In Reply To ..]
Zimmerman profiled black males on numerous occasions, reporting suspicious black males to 911, and spotting a black male on February 26 he deemed suspicious. (I suspect Zimmerman lumped all black people together and probably thought they all looked alike and acted alike which is proof of his racist ignorance.

I wish the prosecution would have quit playing games and flat out accused Zimmerman of profiling Trayvon because he was a black teen.

If people tell the truth to themselves, 99% of people have issues and judge people because of the color of their skin or their ethnicity.

I believe race was an issue with Zimmerman as well as the jurors - even if no one will admit it.

It's pretty obvious some posters here have issues with black teens, assuming they are "gangstas", "thugs" and wanting to "fight" or get high on Skittles and Arizona ice tea. That is their perception and it is unfair and ignorant. They are playing their own race card.

A lot of Democrats don't want BO campaigning for them so the White House has sent out Mobama. She was giving a speech in Iowa and mispronounced the senate candidate's name multiple times. Then she gives the senate candidate credit for being in the Marine Corps when it was actually his father in the Marine Corps during WWII. At least she didn't say corpse. Ha ha! ...

I am sure Casey now feels untouchable and no one can get in her way and God help them if they try.   I think we will see her again in coming years in the legal system.  I am curious as to where she is going to go, what is next for her.  She better move to Timbuktu because she is so hated in this country someone might try to kill her themselves. ...

Clint Eastwood Vs. George ClooneyAug 31, 2012
Choosing Clint Eastwood to represent Hollywood at the RNC was a stroke of genius. He embodies conservatism and the Heartland ruggedness of America. I would say that more people can relate to Clint Eastwood (RNC's choice) than to George Clooney (DNC's choice). ...

Ronald Reagan And George H.W. Bush...amSep 15, 2012
were honorable men who put their country first in a time of crisis.   "Because Republicans have frequently likened President Obama to Jimmy Carter, we were curious to learn how candidate Ronald Reagan responded to the worst foreign policy disaster on Carter’s watch — the failed mission to rescue U.S. diplomats in Iran, resulting in the deaths of eight servicemen.  In April 1980, Reagan was still battling George H.W. Bush for the GOP nomination, while Sen. Edward M. Kenned ...

The More Things Change: The George Soros Of TheFeb 03, 2017
In a video published recently by Anonymous, the group declares that “the takedown of George Soros has begun.” While the hacktivists' methods may be questionable, there is a reason Soros’s subterfuge deserves to be broadcast. The recent “Women’s March,” touted as the spontaneous uprising of women refusing to recognize Trump’s presidency, was itself a pre-packaged paper tiger purchased by George Soros. As reported in an op-ed published on January 20 by the New York Times, ...

Why George W. Bush Never Left D.C. Until The Day After ChristmasDec 29, 2014
Like many Americans, U.S. presidents often take time off around the holidays. However, according to journalist Joseph Curl, who previously covered the White House, former President George W. Bush went on Christmas vacation in a way that stands in direct contrast to President Barack Obama. “[H]ere’s the thing: In December, we never left Washington, D.C., until the day after Christmas. Never. Mr. Bush and his wife, Laura, would always depart the White House a few days before the holi ...
