Does anyone use internet TV?

Posted: Dec 3, 2009

I am thinking about cancelling my Direct TV because it is just toooooo expensive.  Does anyone use any of the "internet TV" websites to download shows or movies?  Are they free?  If you pay a subscription, have you been ripped off?  Thanks in advance

I watch shows I have missed over the internet. - ht

I use casttv.com, most of them are free. They give you a choice of what site to watch them from. Also, some of hte major networks have full length episodes up for a while to watch for free (CBS, ABC, etc.). There is one site that has a lot of the shows on casttv that only let you watch 72 minutes every 3 hours, so you can only watch one show at a time. I have never looked into the "pay" internet tv sites. Casttv also has movies you can watch.

I have heard of that one - TV?

Hulu - (sm)

I just recently started watching Lost on Hulu. Right now, they offer their content for free, but may possibly charge for some of it in the future. They do have limited commercials, usually either 30 seconds or 15 seconds in length, although once (when watching a movie) there was one that was longer, maybe a minute and a half. I have to say, though, that I was very disappointed when I got to season 5 and discovered that they do not have the first 9 episodes from that season, but they get rights from whoever owns the content they are using and have restrictions. For example, I have also watched some Grey's Anatomy on there, and they are only aloud to have the latest 5 episodes available to view. We had disconnected our DirecTV before the season started and I had not yet discovered Hulu at that time, so I have not been able to see the first couple/few episodes yet. I have seen some sites that you have to download the content, and I am not really into doing that right now. It appears that at least some of them offer a free trial period and you are able to download only a certain amount during that time, and then have tiered monthly plans available for pay where depending on the level/price you choose will determine how much you are able to download in that time period. I have not spent a lot of time researching how it all works and the different sites available, but it has been nice to have TV available when I feel like watching something, since we only disconnected the satellite due to finances.

Oh, btw, I do not think that they are all created equally regarding quality of streaming video (versus downloading). I think there are two parts to it, one of them would be the site itself and the other your computer/internet speed.

Question About Internet Service ProvidersJul 09, 2016
Last night I was watching TV when I discovered that my half my channels no longer worked.  I have bundled service (internet, land-line phone, and cable TV), so I called my ISP, and they told me that they have a "new and improved" system now (sounds like Nuance, huh?) and I would now have to rent a box for each TV in my house in order to restore my fave channels. Um, no thanks. I'm not under contract, so I'm going to cancel my service and find alternatives.  BTW, I've le ...
