What's next in the Communist takeover you ask? The internet (sm)

Obama moves on to the internet.  He has a big 26 months planned for us.

there would be talk of what the Republicans plans are. All I see is the same old What Obama is Doing Now posts. Don't you have any agendas to share with us? What do they hope to accomplish other than hate Obama? I am totally serious.

Some of the things Republicans want to do - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
1. Keystone XL, that's a given.
2. fix Obamacare -not repeal, but fix the bad parts like the medical device and pharmaceutical tax, promoting handing most of the control to the states, and more:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2014/11/05/seven-obamacare-bills-that-the-new-gop-senate-majority-should-pass-in-2015/2/

3. Jobs
4. Secure the Border and stop illegal immigration/deporting those here illegally.
5. Tax reform and stop corporate welfare.
6. Get rid of Common Core.

There are other things but the above are the most important.

U.S. needs to wean itself off of fossil-fuels. - Lotus

[ In Reply To ..]
Why? We have a lot of fossil fuels left. None of - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
the other "energy" products a/k/a solar and wind are ready for prime time. That was noted with all the bankrupt companies supported by Obama. No one wants wind turbines in their backyard because they are ugly, noisy, and they kill birds.

Solar is too expensive and most people can't afford it yet. I think it's going to be many years before prices come down where people can really afford it, and for those in northern states that don't get a lot of sun in the winter, it wouldn't be too practical.

We have enough fossil fuel for at least 100 years. Our carbon dioxide levels are the lowest in the world. The problem with carbon dioxide and other unhealthy "smog" comes from Africa and China, especially China, yet they don't do anything about it.

What would you propose be done?
Not THAT much, or we would've been free of - foreign oil a long time ago.
[ In Reply To ..]
And I'm not including fracked oil in that assessment, either, because it's as environmentally destructive as nuclear power is, not only because of the fact that it's not "clean" energy by any stretch of the imagination, but because the long-term effects of it are only just now beginning to be understood. Likely the future will yield far more ruinous effects on our environment and our collective health.
Haven't you heard of moritoriums or blocking permits? - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]

Obama placed a moratorium on deepwater drilling that nearly put a stop to the energy development in the Gulf. That was in June 2010. Congress and the court rulings forced him to lift the moratorium, but the Interior Department and Secretary Ken Salazar sat on their permit stamps.

In 2011, the US News reported that it had led to the disappearance of 20,000 "good jobs at good wages" and threatened nearly 400,000 throughout the country.

Oil production on federal lands was down 31 percent from 2011 levels, while production on state and private lands increased by 15 percent, reports the Energy Information Administration.

Then, even back in 2012, facts showed the government was hardly granting any permits to oil companies and oil production went down by 36%. They were still sitting on the permits.

BTW, all the oil production from 2009-2012 is now on private/non-federal land, while oil production on federal lands has fallen by seven percent.

I am against nuclear power. That's dangerous both to people and to the environment. It's a great terrorist target and spent fuel rods are radioactive for how many years? I'm thinking 200 but not sure.

As for fracking, studies have proved that it's NOT environmentally destructive. That's the final say on it...well, maybe not...final says are never final, are they? :)
Actually, jury still out on fracking environmentally, but seismically disastrous - Kentuckian
[ In Reply To ..]
... as is deep-water drilling, and contributing to earthquakes is of some concern.

Additionally, fracking requires water, which is in short demand in places in the US, but if methods were found to use another substance than water, it may be a viable option, but there's still the seismic issues to consider.

I do not believe that Dems should block fracking until all the study results are in, but that's just it - from what I've read on both sides, both conservative and liberal press, the actual effects on the environment of the chemicals used during fracking are not yet known, only speculated upon, so unfortunately it is inaccurate to say that "it's been proven NOT to have environmental effects."

You asked above what other ideas might we have?

Well, that's just it, we'll never know of other alternatives than these unless we allow or foster funding or grants to investigate other options, and focusing on only one option fosters dependency upon that thing, which is never a good thing - and I think you might agree to that, whether that "one thing" is public aid or an oil-based economy.

However, just like what happened when any other carmaker tried something different, "the big 3" shut them down, blocking funding for research, or dug up dirt on that effort (Tucker, Delorean), so I have my concerns about big business shutting down any attempt to do so and using lobbyists influence to do it.

I'm a big fan of not complaining without offering a solution, which is why I, for one, sincerely appreciated your information on what plans the new Republican stronghold in Congress will try to accomplish today, rather than just complaining about the current presidential administration, so I voted you up:)

(Further, to the commenter that stated that they shouldn't tell, that makes no sense - why would you ever vote someone into office who is that secretive about their future plans for this country? In fact, I don't think they are being secretive about it, and I thank you, Truth Hurts, for clueing us in.)

Having said that, TH, the only thing I do wish you would mention, which I'm sure you're not intentionally omitting (but rather, just focused on your point) is what reason the Dems stated for blocking these things other than just being ornery?

Of course, that doesn't mean we'll actually believe the reason they stated for blocking, but I would at least appreciate the reasons they stated, at the time, so we could make a better informed decision.

Speaking of which, I read your post below mentioning me at the top (the one regarding Dems blocking Republican mortgage and banking-solution bills before they became law before Obama's presidency).

However, I noticed the article did not state what reason the Dems gave for blocking these bills, do you happen to have that information?

Additionally, the Republicans had the majority in both chambers from 2003 to 2007 - so in other words, can you explain how it was that the Dems managed to block these bills, though they were in the minority in both Senate and the HOR, as well as even if they were able to accomplish it, what reason they state for doing so?

(Again, doesn't mean we'd believe that reason, but I would like to know what reason they gave)

Thank you

(Again, posting from a different location tonight. I was thinking about that. What about moderation reviewing comments before they're released rather than cleanup later?)

It's very long but explains what's been happening with the Internet. A little description:

The net neutrality debate is based on a mental model of the internet that hasn’t been accurate for more than a decade. We tend to think of the internet as a massive public network that everyone connects to in exactly the same way. e envision data traveling from Google and Yahoo and Uber and every other online company into a massive internet backbone, before moving to a vast array of ISPs that then shuttle it into our homes. That could be a neutral network, but it’s not today’s internet. It couldn’t be. Too much of the traffic is now coming from just a handful of companies.

Craig Labowitz made this point last month, when he testified before a Congressional committee on the proposed Comcast-Time Warner merger. Ten years ago, internet traffic was “broadly distributed across thousands of companies,” Labovitz said in his prepared statement to the committee. But by 2009, half of all internet traffic originated in less than 150 large content and content-distribution companies, and today, half of the internet’s traffic comes from just 30 outfits, including Google, Facebook, and Netflix.

http://www.wired.com/2014/06/net_neutrality_missing/

BTW, what happened to turning the internet over to ICANN? Remember that? On March 14 of this year they announced that they were going to relinquish control to ICANN. This is supposed to happen in 2015 and if Obama wins net neutrality by calling the internet a utility, does that will mean ICANN will be able to control all our utility industries?

[ In Reply To ..]
The desired effects are:

1. internet providers wouldn't be allowed to BLOCK websites offering legal content

2. they wouldn't be allowed to intentionally slow down or speed up certain websites or services based on their OWN preferences, and

3. they wouldn't be able to offer paid fast lanes.

I am not in favor of corporations manipulating the internet.
